Hopsin did this for years with Don’t Funk Up Our Beats. Including having to pay to enter. Twiztid does it and people are like “whoa whoa whoa!”

I didn’t say that Funk Volume’s stuff was the best ever. I was just saying that it was pay to play and hundreds of people entered it each year with no complaints

neither are pay to play. both are pricey lottos with humble prizes.
there was complaining, you just dont remember it. there was sneering, too, which is much more what im doin, rather than complaining.
frankly, i wouldnt enter this raffle if they were paying me.

Paying for the download shows dedication and how serious an artists is. It helps keep out “the riff-raff” so to speak

C’mon, scruff. “neither are pay to play. both are pricey lottos with humble prizes.” You mean like a lottery ticket where you have to pay to play it?

‘pay-to-play’ has a somewhat specific meaning in the music biz.
key relevance here is: yes, you pay, but then you get to play.
this is ‘all of yall pay me, but only one of you gets to benefit’.
that is not ‘pay-to-play’. way closer to lotto/raffle/numbers.

stonedhenge: there is some truth to that. it never factored into their reasoning, though. and speaking personally, i wouldnt take anybody more seriously because they bought a beat to enter a contest.
mikeysinder: they gotta eat, ya know. if people will pay, i cant really fault em for charging. ill just, well, not pay.
and sneer a little, i spose.

scruffy haha I know Im not actually hating on the idea, its not bad, I just think if you look at the 2 similar contests, Psychopathics one just offers a better deal imo what Stonedhenge said is true it does help weed out some of the aspiring rappers who might sound like garbage, but it also weeds out the extremely talented broke ninjas, Psys lookin out for the broke ninjas, anyone can join if they really want, where twiztid will only fuck with you if you got that cheddar.

Damn ninjas be bitching about everything these days.haha I mean nothing is free in this world anymore I’m surprised the government hasn’t started taxing us for the air we breathe yet. I don’t see the big deal they ask you pay to enter. if you win you get a free beat a free verse and free promotion. Any serious artist will jump on this and many juggahos will try to turn this into another reason to hate on MNE.

There is a glaring issue with the Psychopathic contest in my opinion. There’s no restrictions or way to verify that it’s actually you on the song. It’s just submit 3 random songs and they’ll judge them. What’s preventing people from getting really good underground songs (which will not yield any results in a google search of lyrics or instrumental), saying it’s you, then pulling a Project Born and getting a deal until they realize you don’t really sound like that?

With this one and Funk Volume, it’s a lot harder to submit a fake entry. And $5. That’s 40 minutes of sweeping the floor at Burger King. Compared to one option with Psy of sending in a CD (can’t buy just 1 blank CD) or a flash drive that you’re never gonna get back. Plus postage. That’s gonna run you at least 5 dollars.

lol you call that a glaring issue? if a person tried to do that it wouldn’t exactly work out for them in the long run would it genius, you gotta have too much time on your hands to even think of that shit, like anyones ever gonna do that shit, maybe think harder next time. glaring issue lol get the fuck outta here
