If you’ve been following the tour date calendar then you know what time it is, yes that’s right Suburban Noize Records & SRH’s Heavy Hitters Tour 2008 made it’s stop through Cleveland. Filling the bill on the night was San Jose natives: Insolence, the chameleon-like Raptillion himself the Dirtball, Subnoize Royalty: Kingspade, and underground legends Hed (pe).

Stepping out of their native scene of San Jose, California, Insolence would be a word that best describes this metamorphoses of reggae, metal, punk, hip-hop and electronica. From the first few riffs of the guitar, the first fist thrown in the pit, or the constant energy projected forth from the group, they definitely got the crowd pumped. Not only were they pumped for what was yet to come, but as well as the freshly put together sounds being laid down. On the surface they may just look like some ordinary “Cali-Punk Band”, but once you hear just a few tracks you can see that they are much more than that, and are definitely something worth checking out.

Up next was the legendary word flipping, tongue twisting Raptillion the Dirtball; repping the Subnoize Souljahz. Minus Big B though? I found out from various artists on the bill that Big B was in fact at a Moto Cross event somewhere around the Ohio area, yet I can’t really remember. This made no matter because ready to take his place on stage and move the crowd with his legendary megaphone was The Anti-hero in the flesh, The Taxman. Yes ladies and gentleman, one of the most original, off the wall individuals walking around today was in face The Dirtballs hype man last night making the set that much more fresh. Aside from DB shooting off linguistic bullets at the crowd of kids, he was there to announce that his new album “Crook County” is slated to be released on April 1, 2008.

Third, flipping the script, was Kingspade. Normally I would think that they would be headlining, but once I thought about the name of the tour and the type of music it would seem more appropriate for Hed (PE) to headline, because their music is simply heavier. This made no difference though, the royal friends from before the age of ten approached the stage with their audio artillery loaded by Bobby B. Kingspade’s set is always one that can get the club jumping, hotties humping, and bass bumping. Getting straight fucked up on stage while pulling off a set is not an easy task I would believe, but these guys have managed to pull it off every night of the tour thus far, because they’ve had more then a decade worth of practice. There was no news as to when their new album may come out, they just tore Peabody’s down brick by brick.

Finally the heaviest hip-hop, punk rock clique bum rushed the stage with a whirlwind of excitement, verbal explosions, and musical onslaughts most were not ready for. The pits were huge as Jared could command the crowd to do his bidding at the slightest whim of his voice. Soon there was nothing we could do as the chords were struck and the ears were plucked, off of the heads of those in attendance and blown off like a landmine would any random appendage. However you would want to describe it as there is no denying that Hed (PE) is a kick to your chin with steel toe boots that have spikes affixed on the tips. While getting your face ripped off and salt thrown on the wounds to stop the bleeding. The set’s were all awesome in their own rights, and each had their weak moments, but don’t take my word for it fool get yourself a ticket and check this show out when it hits your town!
