What a way to bring in another year of this country’s independence then to go hit up the Suburban Noize tribes most recent tour The DiY tour. With musical talents like Potluck, The Dirtball, OPM, and (HeD)PE the only thing that could happen was a good time. Once again while hitting up Cleveland the show was booked in Peabody’s Down Under, which didn’t seem to be as packed as it was until I turned around during (HeD)PE and was like “whoa”. An awesome thing about the music last night is a good way to describe this country of ours, diversity. There was hip-hop, both Humboldt and Crook County styles, there was smooth, irie feels of OPM’s Reggae, and last but not least there was the true American-Hardcore, (HeD)PE!

First up Humboldts highest, flyest, and always packed with surprises, was Potluck. UnderRated and 1Ton together on stage together with mics in hand are un-fuck-with-able, hands down. The way they command the attention of those in attendance and then split the eardrums with a taste of life of where they’re from is something not to be slept on. Coming out to “What We Are” then flowing right into “Fire” is a sure way to get anyone in front of the stage to do a little bit more than just tap their feet. Towards to the end of their set, once again hyping up their upcoming release ‘Pipe Dreams’, they took the time to play an un-released track “Shut The Fuck Up”, it’s a banger for sure and I can’t wait to be able to spin the disc when I want to.

After catching a buzz for the taste of hip-hop music came the raptillion, straight out of the crematorium still wearing his burning suit labled with where he works “Mora Kyrkogarden”. Flipping his tounge, spinning the fun, and spitting one the mic like a gun was Dirtball, ecstatic and crazier than ever. Still hyping up the most recent release of “Crook County” he kicked the tracks “Night Shade”, “Mushroom Cloud”, “Pit Spit”, and “Speak”. While still keeping it (in a way) freshly, old school with “Batter Swing”, “My Show”, and a few others I can’t seem to recall. I seen a drum kit on the stage while his set was being set up and thought “maybe drumming and rapping?!” Then realized when he walked off stage how disappointed I was because the punk-vet didn’t hit that bitch up and blow some minds like I know that stint will.

Once I realized what the drum kit was for I knew the music’s energy was about to change drastically, yet not worried at all. Coming up was them cool cat’s with reggae beats and raps from Southern Cali., OPM. The line-up consisting of Casper, Los, Johnny Williams, Matt Rowe, and Johnny Necro coming together as separate beings to form the solid entity known, as OPM is a recipe for success. Fuck you if you think otherwise, these guys have been putting in their work at Sub. Noize since the early part of this millennium after the drop of their debut album “Menace to Sobriety”. Setting the mood to want to fire one up their set consisted of “Heaven is a Halfpipe”, “Perfect Day”, “Dirty White”, “Stash Up”, “Lion’s Pride”, and “Feel the Vibe” among a few others. Like all the good things that have happened before their set it had to end.

That meant one thing, (HeD)PE! Storming the stage with their blitzkrieg, guerilla tactics it was the most insane, live, hype, or whatever you want to call it the crowd got all night. Talk about a dominating force in the music industry, these guys are like a kick with a steel toe boot to your stomach after you just had surgery on your liver. True American-Hardcore they were excited about the fact those people last night were all there to celebrate the 4th with them. To add more devestation to the night Jared added that they had a CD and (first ever) DVD released for sale at the merch booth for anyone who wanted to get a copy of. They did tracks from all over their career, from 96′, 99′, to shit they just released. This made no difference the crowd was just as hype for the old as well as the new, it couldn’t be stopped. Jared was speaking on his beliefs on how we, as 1 race, need to “Open your eyes and wake the fuck up!” Their set was killer, if you’re in the pit not only on your mind but also on your body.

Clowning about the recent events in the news, to homosexuality, emo-faggots, and where the human race is really from he let us know to get schooled on some knowledge pick up and read the book “Gods of Eden”.

Anyway it was a bomb-ass way to celebrate the 4th, even if their weren’t real fireworks the fireworks exploding off of the stage in Peabody’s were more than enough to compensate for what was missed. Go see this tour if you rock the Sub. Noize shit, if not and you only heard of some of these guys go, it’s a good show to check out and get schooled at.
