On November 28, 2008 the small, quiet town of Reading, Pennsylvania was invaded and engulfed by the wicked flames of the underground movement. Within the hollow halls of The Silo, connected to the Quality Inn was flipped on its back end and then rolled down a hill several times before it realized the sickness that blindsided it from the performances throughout the night. Arranged and thrown together by one of the main attractions of the night, D-Rangd, The Tick, and Time Bomb Music Management, the fest. was a showcase of the East Coast underground talents rising today. Many acts in the building were straight horror-core and some were a style of their own. For the most part I wasn’t paying attention that night because, in my own opinion, a lot of the music coming from the underground horror-core scene is watered down and recycled in some way, shape, or form. For example, there was an act there who completely jacked their name from “Tim Burtons: A Nightmare Before Christmas” calling himself The Pumpkin King, probably rapping on some H.O.K styles or whatever, like I said watered down. Then there were even performances there where the artist had choreographed a dance routine to go through while on stage, fucking terrible.

Then there were artists there holding it down with styles all completely their own and innovative for future acts to bite on and copy in some way. I am in fact referring to the Mission: Infect camp that was in full affect and took the night over. First off the bat throwing their M:I’s high in the sky was Malaria. Kicking tracks from The Vault, Grave Digger, and Back from the Dead his sickness started spreading the infection with the message they’re sending. During his set he was accompanied by the likes of Badluck, T.O.N.E-Z, Mumm-Ra, Saint Sinna, and the Green Villin. I feel he started to get the crowd hyped and ready for what was coming up that they definitely weren’t ready for. Mumm-Ra, the top Rhyming abomination took to the stage as well with Malaria laying down his wickedness showing the crowd why he earned his name as T.R.A. As their set was winding down the beats kicked off and Mumm-Ra kicked a sick ass acapella making the rafters shake the very foundation of the building.

After the first set of MC’s from the M:I movement was the group that had drawn their influences from all different spots of hip-hop with their wicked shit style and straight hip-hop lyrics; a mix that can’t be fucked with on the mic or on the stage, Death B4 Dishonor. The duo consisting of two of the hardest moving lyricists on the underground today, Lo Key and T.O.N.E-Z, graced the stage, gripped the mics, and blew the crowd/competition out of the fucking water. Having finally dropped their album, “The Ascending”, the attitude from the stage felt throughout the building and the crowd was that there was something great laid down that night: pure, infectious music that can’t be denied. Their set was so full of fire that if you tried to touch it or come near it you were burned. Kicking tracks like: “School of Death”, “Gangsta Wicked”, “The Underground”, “M:I For Life”, and the self-titled track “Death B4 Dishonor ft. Badluck” this group came to the venue ready for lyrical battle and had little to no mercy leaving a wake of destruction in the fire blazed trail they stomped down over the night.

The night started off kind of whack and at some parts seemed to only get whacker, for me though M:I saved it for what it was. If you don’t already know check em’ out (Infectmusic.com)
