She was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma when she was five. McLean’s parents were children’s church pastors at Faith Christian Fellowship (FCF) located in the predominately black North Side of Tulsa and threw Friday night parties at a community recreational center to give at-risk kids a place to go other than the streets. Immersed in black culture, McLean wrote and performed her first rap at age ten during a church talent show. While in middle school, McLean learned to play piano by ear, but by her senior year of high school, she was being regularly suspended for fighting and later found out she was pregnant. After graduation, she was arrested for stealing and identity theft and was incarcerated while pregnant. McLean was released from jail shortly before giving birth to a daughter and began hustling to support herself and the child.
Her self-produced independent album Underestimated (2006) sold 5000 copies and led to a brief affiliation with Swisha House. During this time, she opened shows for various major label recording artists, including Fergie, Paul Wall, Akon, Too $hort, Afroman, and Nappy Roots.
In 2010 she released the pop/rock single “Spain” with producer Mark Bryan, which received modest radio play in various markets. McLean recorded and uploaded the viral video “White Girl Raps Fast” in June 2011, which became an instant hit, generating millions of views on Youtube and WorldStarHipHop. McLean was brought to the attention of German-American digital imprint Block Starz Music by a fan who submitted her video to the music company’s website. “Honestly, we we’re expecting it to be nonsense,” said Peppy Johnson, Block Starz Vice President of A&R. “But from the moment she started rapping, her skill and talent level were undeniable. We believe, with a strong team around her, she has enormous commercial potential.” She announced her official signing to the label September 1, 2011 during a live Ustream interview and performance on Zedalza New York.
Lega-C’s debut album on Block Starz Music, titled Off My Medication, was released October 31, 2012.

Track by track review and rating
1. Off my medication- This track has a complex and sometimes distracting beat. The verses are well put together and performed but the hook no as clear as it should be. 6/10
2. That Bitch- Another really hard beat. The verses in this track are decent. The hook runs a little long and is not very well written. 6/10
3. New Sound Feat Siege- The simple beat in this track allows her natural ability with the vocals to shine. It is a great example of the skills that caught everyone’s attention on her youtube video “White Girl Raps Fast.” 8/10
4. Who got tha heater- Another really simple beat. The verses are performed nicely and the hook is decent. 7/10
5. 24- This track is a nice change of pace. It is a much darker theme and tells a twisted story. Great beat and sound to this track. 9/10
6. Oren-Ishii Feat Lady Remedy- A nice unique beat and speedy vocals make the track work well. The hook is once again very busy and that takes away from this track. 7/10
7. Lady Wood- This track is dedicated to sex as the name suggests. The beat is alright but doesn’t really stand out. Her vocals are well performed once again. 6/10
8. Speaking Sublimely Feat Wrekonize of iMayday- This track has a catchy beat. Wrekonize starts the track and adds a nice dimension to the CD. His verse is well done and makes the track enjoyable. 8/10
9. Stay Feat Dominique McLean- A mellow track which is a nice shift at this point in the CD. The track is harmonized very well and adds a softer touch. 8/10
10. Boss Bitch Feat Zig Zag- A true banger. This track has a thug sound that is so different from the last track. Zig Zag performs her verse well and provides a nice counter for Lega-C on this track. 9/10
11. Fuck em all- A slightly faster beat and good vocals make the track flow well. The hook is well done and adds a lot to the track. 8/10
12. Blow you away Feat KP- A slow beat allows good vocals to come through. The hook is semi-whispered but it works. 7/10
13. No liquor left- Auto-tune strikes again. The hook and use of auto-tune make this track very mainstream sounding. While it is different than any other track on the CD it doesn’t work well with her well done vocal performance. 6/10
14. A.N.D.R.E- This track is dedicated to a man who obviously doesn’t live up to anything. A complete diss track to an guy unknown to the listener. Not a bad track but it seems out of place on this album. 6/10
Conclusion: Lega-C has an unmistakable flow that is easily recognized. This debut CD for Block Starz Music shows her skills on the mic well and has a lot of diversity in the beats. Those factors make the release an enjoyable introduction to listeners unfamiliar with the artist and her style.
