It had been a long time since Twiztid had visited Nashville. TOO long. The general consensus was that their last visit was in 2008 as Dark Lotus, so it was incredibly exciting to see that the third leg of the Abominationz tour was coming to town. And not only that, but that Twiztid was performing in what I consider to be the very best venue in Nashville, the Exit/In. I ended up leaving work a couple of hours early just to make sure that I had enough time to get fabulous and get to the venue plenty early to hang with my fam!

When I arrived, Moonshine and his girl Lacey were hanging around, so I caught up with them for a while. It was so cool to see Twiztid’s big bus and trailer parked behind the venue…that just doesn’t happen in Nashville :-) Lots of my other local friends were hanging around, either in the parking lot or in line at the front of the venue. It’s really fun when shows like this come through since they’re like little local Juggalo family reunions.

Once we were let inside the venue, it didn’t take much time at all for Monsta Squad to hit the stage.

They’ve been making a great name for themselves recently, and it’s nice to see them opening for bigger names when they come through town. I’d love to see them get a little more publicity for their music because I do feel like they put a good product out there for people. Since they’re around for a lot of shows, the crowd seemed to be familiar with them, and got really into their music!

Next up on the bill was Aqualeo, who were new to me, and apparently most of the crowd. But as soon as they came out and started doing their thing…I loved them!!

They were awesome to watch, seeming almost robotic in they way they synchronized their movements. They would walk around the stage, lean toward and away from the crowd, crouch down…all totally synchronized with each other and with the music. They were incredibly unique, and totally unlike any other group I’ve seen. Their music was fairly simple, without any crazy beats or fast rapping, but they were really excellent at what they did. At one point, they both stood on top of “soap boxes” at the back of the stage, and rocked back and forth for the entire length of one song…and it was awesome! Plus I just have a thing for men who wear Chucks with suits! Once they were done, everyone around me sort of felt the same way. They were very unique and entertaining, and someone that I would love to see live again!

After Aqualeo, it was time for Lil Wyte’s set. Remember how your mom always told you that if you can’t say anything nice, you shouldn’t say anything at all?

By around 10:00pm, it was finally time for Twiztid to take the stage! The show had moved quickly to this point, but there was a long, empty wait as we all anticipated Twiztid’s arrival. Once the lights went out and they made their way on stage, the crowd went absolutely wild!

This was Lacey’s first time seeing Twiztid, and it was too fun to watch her be so excited as they started their set! The set that they performed was pretty similar to the first and second legs of the tour, with the addition of a couple of songs from A New Nightmare. They still started out the set with They Told Me, which has definitely become one of my favorite live songs of their. I mean, who doesn’t like the opportunity to scream obscenities at the top of their lungs?

Twiztid performed a laundry list of their best songs for the set, including Bad Side, Bella Morte, So High, Bagz, First Day Out, We Don’t Die, and they continued to use LDLHA-IBCSYWA to cap off the set. I did seem to notice that both Madrox and Monoxide were lacking just a little in truly interacting with the audience. Numerous times, they were within inches of people in the audience, but didn’t look directly at them, give them daps or anything similar. This could be simply because they’re really packing shows in on this tour, and were just a little worn out. They had just traveled 10 hours from Jacksonville the evening before, which doesn’t leave much down time in between shows. But really, even with this slight gripe, their show was still head and shoulders better than almost anyone out there in the game right now. They always sound great, are very energetic and are so incredibly entertaining to watch!

As the show ended, everyone started to scatter. Since no one was allowed to exit the venue once we had gone inside, most people flooded outside to smoke, while others headed home for the evening. I hung around with my friends, who were pretty much the same crew I hung out with at the Gathering, until it was after 1:00am. Eventually, we all decided to make our way out to the parking lot, where we found a crowd around Twiztid’s bus. It turned out that a couple of their crew guys were collecting up things from the crowd and taking them into the bus for autographs! On the off chance that I got the opportunity to meet them, I had brought some printed photos that I’ve taken at previous shows, in hopes that I might be able to get them signed. So I handed over my photos, and just a few minutes later, their crew guy emerged with my photos not only signed, but with a compliment on them from Madrox! Awesome!

With that, Krissi and I ended up at the 24 hour cafe behind the venue for some late night noms, where we had a window seat to watch the Twiztid crew pack up the rest of their gear. Man, I really hope that this show is the first of many bigger name underground shows to come to town. Tech N9ne is great at showing Nashville love, but not many other people frequent this area. Here’s hoping that we get more shows like this in the future!
