Poizonous Logik

Poizonous Logik - "No Competition " Poizonous Logik (Feat. Insane Poetry) - "Set It Off" Poizonous Logik (Feat. Cryptic Wisdom) - "Take Me" Poizonous Logik - "Throw The Rest Aside"

What’s up Juggalos and Juggalettes? That’s right, it’s Johnny O and this time I’m back with a new Underground Spotlight straight from Arizona. Psycho D and DJ Ghost began their grind as solo artists but had actually been working together since back in 2006. Eventually, they combined forces and created Poizonous Logik. The duo have already opened for big name underground acts like R.A. Tha Rugged Man, Kung Fu Vampire, AMB, Liquid Assassin and Twiztid just to name a few.

I won’t ramble too much; in fact let’s just jump right into it now. Well, one more thing before we do. I want give a big THANK YOU to Poizonous Logik and ChalkLine Musick for taking the time for this Faygoluvers interview. Okay, that’s enough. Let’s get this damn thing started already.

Johnny O: First for those who haven’t heard of you before can you tell us a little bit about Poizonous Logik?

Deezy: Poizonous Logik is an underground rap duo from Mesa, Arizona. Signed to our own record company, ChalkLine Musick (Mesa is a little town in between Phoenix & Tempe.) The way we look at music & life is that, there is both a positive & negative side to it. We are about having a good time & sending positive vibes but we just think with a realist attitude,.. Not everything is sweet & nice like a box of candy, or beautiful like a bouquet of flowers.. Shit is rotting from the inside out, Real Talk!

Johnny O: Could you describe your style for us?

Ghost: If we had to throw a label on it (which I don’t really do) I think we would call it aggressive rap/ hip-hop. We dable in different types of music to tho. We’ve got some more rock type shit, like the song we did with the homie, Cryptic Wisdom. Really anything we’re feeling at the moment, we try to do. Whatever people wanna call our style, after it’s out there for the world is up to them. LMAO

Deezy: Our Style is just what my brotha, Ghost Says, it’s “Aggressive Rap/Hip-Hop” to us, but once our music is released to the world, everyone is gonna have their own description on what our music is.

Johnny O: I know that both DJ Ghost and Psycho D were solo artists for a few years, how did you end up coming together to form Poizonous Logik?

Deezy: Ghost has always been the beat mastermind within our label, ChalkLine Musick. I basically grew up with the guy (Before we both had kids) He started out just being a regular DJ back way before any of us started rapping. Until one very drunken night in 2006 when the planets aligned, birds flew backwards & Hell froze over. (At least that’s what I think I remembered happening, I was really drunk) Got ‘em to come out of his shell. Myself on the other hand, I started rapping back in 06. I was in a horrocore group called, KoBoLoS, (YES were the KoBoLos that is also in the Underground Spotlight section) with my old partner MarxXx. Ghost of course was in the background producing our beats & engineering us when we were recording, also doing guest features on our album. Years past by, now were in 2009. My old partner got involved with a new project & I kicked it with Ghost. We were for the longest time doing shows under our solo aliases,”DJ Ghost & Psycho D”, opening for a ton of underground artists. Hyping one another on stage like crazy. When it was the end of 2010 we finally got sick of getting the question, “When are you guys gonna get a group name” LOL. So I had a sit down with my brotha & that’s how POIZONOUS LOGIK was born.

Johnny O: How’s the Underground scene in Arizona?

Ghost: The underground scene here has improved over the years like crazy. We got lots of talented cats making a name for themselves now days. Everybody is starting to realize that if we work together and keep drama away from venues and events, that we can rebuild what was damaged in the past. For a while it was next to impossible to throw a rap concert in our city because of all the shootings and fights that kept happening. 2013 has been a pretty good year for the scene I would have to say

Deezy: Yeah it’s getting up there, got a lot of artists coming up. All we’re trying to do is put AZ on the map for underground music.

Johnny O: I notice that both Arizona Green Life sponsors you and Cannabis Energy drink, how did that relationship come about?

Deezy: AZ Green Life (http://www.AZGreenLife.com) ran by my buddy, it’s a company that issues recommendations for getting a medical marijuana card. My buddy who owns it also owns a concert promotion company called, ClickBANG Entertainment. Our label ChalkLine Musick & ClickBANG Entertainment put on shows in Tempe, Phoenix, Mesa, Gilbert etc. etc. together. So within the relationship we built up a sponsorship with ‘em.

With Cannabis Energy Drink (http://www.CannabisEnergyDrink.com) I approached them, with the offer of promoting their Product at our shows & on our websites. They took it & now we got a beautiful relationship, brewing, with the nice folks over at Cannabis Energy Drink.

Johnny O: Now because of our shared love of the herb I have to ask what your favorite strain is?

Deezy: I have quite a few,… Sour Diesel, Trainwreck, Blue Dream, Purple Kush, my main is Sour D tho…. I JUST LOVE TO SMOKE….hints why Ghost & I have MMJ cards!! Thanks to AZGreenLife.com

Ghost: Personally, my cousin got me hooked on this shit called “tangie” or “tangerine” hands down dopest dope I ever smoked lol. Or LA confidential, I’m all about the Indicas.

Johnny O: I know you’re currently working on a new album, can you tell us about it?

Ghost: The album is definitely our best work to date. We’ve got some solid features on the project like SwizZz of Funk Volume, Insane Poetry, Cryptic Wisdom, JBD and every song goes hard. I’m very proud of this album. I feel like we both fed off of each other lyrics and energy and just killed every track. We have this little friendly competition thing when we write, we are always trying to top each other’s verses and improve on our skills. We really stepped it up with this one

Deezy: Yeah I get jealous of his verses so I tend to try and top his, just kidding lol. Its fun working on this album and more with Ghost! The album is definitely a must have when it drops, shit, we got collabs on their that were not even mentioning in this interview. So yeah y’all GOT TO BUY IT WHEN IT FINALLY DROPS!!

Johnny O: Anything else in the works for Poizonous Logik at the moment?

Ghost: We’ve actually been talking about putting our first legit free mix tape out,

I’ve got most of the beats for it already. The kool thing about it is that it’s not like a normal hip-hop mix tape, every track is sampled from old rock and metal songs that most people will recognize as soon as the track comes on.  I think it will be something that everybody will enjoy listening too. As soon as this new LP is finished we are gonna get crackin’ on it

Johnny O: I know you’ve been fortunate enough to share the stage with several big underground names like ABK, RITTZ, Kottonmouth Kings, Kutt Calhoun, Twiztid, Potluck and many more. Anyone in particular you’d love to work with?

Deezy: It was once my Dream to open up for the Demented Duo, Twiztid when I was younger. That dream became reality for us, not once but Twice. I still wish to someday work on a track with them. WE STILL WANNA OPEN UP FOR TECH N9NE DAMNIT!!! Def wanna work with, Vinnie Paz, G Moe Skee, Brotha Lynch, Prozak, Hopsin, Twisted Insane. The list goes on & on… so all the names I mentioned!! COME FUCK WITH US!! Lol

Ghost: Personally I’d like to see a Poizonous Logik & Twiztid collaboration in the future. or Brotha Lynch Hung. I think we would make some dope music if it ever happened.

Johnny O: Who would you say were your inspirations?

Ghost: As a kid I used to listen to a lot of Bone Thugs, Esham, Necro, A Tribe Called Quest, Dr. Octagon, Twiztid, Busta Rhymes, Wu Tang Clan & just waaaay to many to mention lol. I would have to say all of that played a roll in how I am today. But I’m also about that rock shit too lol. I think I was inspired by people like Korn, Metallica, Rob Zombie, Slipknot, System of a Down, Mike Patton ( faith no more, peeping tom, tomahawk) and many more. I also find a lot of inspiration from my son, being a parent kinda changed my mind state and how I write music now days.

Deezy: My inspirations in music were, Esham, Eminem, D-12, Eazy-E, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Busta Rhymes, Twiztid, Brotha Lynch, Tech N9ne, & ALOT OF DIFFERENT TYPES of music, except Country, Hate Country Music.. & That’s just some of my inspirations. I LOVE MUSIC!!

Johnny O: What are you currently listening to?

Ghost: Well right now a Tribe Called Quest is bumpin’ while I write this lol. But I been listening to R.A. The Rugged Man, Tech N9ne, Twiztid, Madchild, Swollen Members, CES CRU, a little bit of Kendrick Lamar and shit like that.

Deezy: While typing this out I am listening to Madchild, Ces Cru, Lynch, R.A. The Rugged Man, Twiztid, Tech N9ne, Hopsin…

So, before I go I want to say once again THANK YOU to both Ghost and Deezy. I’m a little jealous of the MMJ cards to be honest, but I’ll get there soon enough. So, I guess I can’t say whether or not the “Tangie” is the product of baby fucking (if you don’t get this reference, just go watch Pineapple Express), but from what I hear it’s pretty damn good.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this interview with Pozionous Logik here on the Underground Spotlight. Until next time, remember if you’re an underground artist and would like to be featured here then shoot me an e-mail at [email protected]. Be sure to include UGS (or something similar) in the subject line, a short bio and a few tracks if possible. Until next time Fam, I’m out.

Peace,

Johnny O
