Liquid Assassin was born Cardell Avila Toombs June 28th 1982 in Saint Paul Minnesota. Father Cardell Toombs and mother Cynthia Drummer. He began his musical journey at age 16 when he started writing music, and age 18 started recording various songs but never released an actual album until 2005.

2004 he met national recording artist Killa C. The next year Liquid Assassin would sign with Dirty Thug Records and the 2 would form the National recording group Grave Plott. Grave Plott would go on to release the album “Puttin you In” featuring Tech N9ne and Krizz Kaliko from Strange Music. Over the next few years would tour very heavy in the northwest and midwest of the U.S. with Strange Music.

2008 Dirty Thug Records signed a distribution deal with Strange Music. Later that year they would release “The Plott Thickens” nationally through Universal Fontana and Strange Music, which charted billboard independent and new artist. Liquid was also featured on Tech N9ne album release “Killer” on “Psycho Bitch II”. Album which charted billboard #1 Independent. Also touring well over 100 shows across the U.S. that year. “Strictly Strange” tour with Tech N9ne and “Clockwork Gray” tour with Psychopathic Records artist Blaze ya Dead Homie were both 40+ shows that year.

2009 Dirty Thug Records would release Liquid Assassin solo debut album “Apocalypse” independently along with “the Lost Chapters of Apocalypse”. Albums would feature an all star cast from Tech N9ne, Paul Wall, and Blaze along with other national names. Later that year Liquid would start his own label 42 Records leaving Dirty Thug Records to pursue a solo career.

2010 he would do many shows nationally promoting his solo album “Apocalypse”. Doing shows with many National Artist like 50 Cent, Hopsin, RedMan, Method Man, DMX, Fabolous, Pitbull, Paul Wall, Chamillionaire, Lil Scrappy, Black Pegasus, the list goes on. He also appeared in the independent movie release of “The Musick” and is featured on the soundtrack.

2011 he would release his next solo release “Cardell” in tribute to his father who passed away from liver cancer. The album includes the song “Beastmode” featuring Hopsin and “Im Right Here”, 2 fan favorites from Liquid. The song “Beastmode” itself has tallied 1.6 million views on youtube with no video or solid promotion.

2012 continued with heavy touring, 40+ show tour with Independent national artist Kung Fu Vampire across the U.S. along with quality album releases and notable shows such as the 4 appearances at “the Gathering of Juggalos”, 3 appearances at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre, also numerous headlining shows across the United States and few in Canada.

Track by track review and rating

  1.  Like Me- This track is backed by a slow and much synthesized beat.  The verses are performed a lot slower and more deliberate. The hook is decent overall although a little simple.  7/10
  2. Fire- Another slow beat here.  The hook is good and sets up the verses and tone of the track.  The verses are well done and round the track out. 7/10
  3. Creature Ft Twiztid & Rittz- The music in this track is similar to Beastmode which featured Hopsin, but it is not identical.  The hook is very well put together.  The first verse LA knocks it out of the park.  This is what people are used to hearing from him and he doesn’t disappoint.  The second verse Twiztid comes just as hard.  Rittz finishes the track off and holds his own against these three.  9/10
  4. Liquid Buddy- This track is driven by another slow and simple beat.  The hook is simple as well but that is alright.  The verses are performed with intensity and flow that only LA can bring.  8/10
  5. Clubber Lang- The music in this track is once again very busy with effects and sounds.  That is ok here because the verses can overpower it well.  The hook is very simple and that brings it down a little.  7/10
  6. From The Bottom Ft Celph Titled- A nice hype club beat here.  The verses and hook are both really well written and performed.  The theme of coming from nothing and now being on top really comes through.  Celph Titled comes with a completely different flow that really melts well with LA’s abilities.  8/10
  7. 38 Revolver- A hard hitting but simple beat leads the verses here.  The tone and anger in the track is very evident.  The verses are pointed in their delivery and have the desired impact.  7/10
  8. More Than Music Ft Jahred- Jahred’s influence is obvious from the very start of this track.  The beat is a nice hybrid of metal guitar and hip hop beat.  LA hits the first two verses very hard and leads the track directly to Jahred in the third.  A nice combo of both skill sets.  8/10
  9. Gutta Ft Jellyroll & Glasses Malone- A good club/down south beat in this track.  Jellyroll takes the first verse back to his southern roots.  LA kills the second verse with his signature style.  Glasses Malone finishes the track off with his signature style as well but it works well with the first two verses.  7/10
  10. Put That On Everything Ft Krizz Kaliko- This track has another hype club beat.  Krizz Kaliko adds his unique style to the hook and adds another dimension to the overall track.  7/10
  11. Charge Ya Battery- This is a definite club banger.  The tone of the track is very aggressive and leaves no doubt the intention of the lyrics.  LA brings the fire with his flow and the hook is solid.  8/10
  12. Prizm Ft Black Pegasus & Wrekonize- A slow melodic beat drives the track here.  Black Pegasus shines in the first verse.  Wrekonize slows things down in the second verse but it is a nice contrast to the first and third.  The hook is decent.  9/10
  13. In My Zone- This track has a beat with the synth horns and hype beat which has become a theme for the album.  The verses are good but hold something back.  The hook is average at best.  A definite let down from the last track.  6/10
  14. Buried Alive- Not sure who is doing the hook here but it is a very nice shift in the album.  The verses are well done and make this an enjoyable track.  7/10
  15. Outta My Mind Ft Mista Ka & Wildcard- This track has a much more laid back hook that allows the lyrics in the verses to really come through.  The featured artists add nice verses that add a different flow and feel to the overall track.  8/10
  16. Hotter Than Hades- The singing over the hook is very distracting here.  The beat doesn’t stand out from many others on the album.  The verses are really solid and bring the rating of the track up.  7/10
  17. Pray For You- A much slower beat gives this track the solemn feel it was intended to.  A track about living in the hood and growing up with your back against the wall.  A really nice shift in theme and tone here.  8/10
  18. Another Day Ft Soul- A solid hook leads this track.  The emotion in this track is apparent and really works to change up the feel of the album.  This track is so different than the rest of the album and the listener will appreciate that.  8/10
  19. Look Mama- This beat finishes the track with another synth horn/club beat.  The verses are really nice and the flow is sick.  The hook is sung again but it works better than “Hotter Than Hades”.  A good track to end this album.  7/10

Conclusion:  This album goes back to the style most fans of Liquid Assassin are used to.  Most of the beats are very club oriented and that theme is shown consistently here.  There are times LA gives us a different feel and look and those times shine in the album.  Although this album is more what we are used to hearing some fans want that feeling they had in Cardell.  LA gives us a solid album that will do very well in live performaces in the future.  This album is a must for fans of Liquid Assassin.
