When you add the ingredients of women, whiskey, 4 wheel drives, a twist of Johnny Cash meets the Beastie Boys, shake well & pour over ice – you get the Moonshine Bandits.  California’s favorite blue collar outlaws, known as the Moonshine Bandits, have taken their somewhat obscure music genre of Outlaw Country Rock/Rap to all types of new audiences.  The Bandits’ song writing reflects a backstage pass into their “Shiner” lifestyle on the road and their “let’s raise some hell” attitude.

The Bandits have toured Nationally, recorded or performed with established artists such as Uncle Kracker, David Allan Coe, Rehab, Tech N9ne, Kottonmouth Kings, Everlast, Pepper, N2Deep, Twiztid, Boondox, Haystak, Vanilla Ice, The Expendables, E-40 and the list goes on. Moonshine Bandits songs “Sweet Home California,” “Moonshine” featuring Danny Boone from the group Rehab (Sittin’ at a Bar song), and “Super Goggles” have all received Radio Airplay on FM Top 40 Stations in various regions.  The Moonshine Bandits are definitely the working man’s champion and continue to earn their stripes in a tough industry.  The Bandits endorse their own brand of Liquor beverages called Cold House Vodka Bottle sold in regional grocery/liquor stores. One of the reasons Tex and Bird became known as the Moonshine Bandits is because of Tex’s deep family roots of bootlegging booze during the Prohibition years.  Tex’s great grandfather used a barber shop as a front while he peddled alcohol illegally in baby carriages to community members, family, friends and politicians.  This all took place in Northern California during the years of the Great Depression. Now the Moonshine Bandits have their own actual 99 Proof “Outlaw Moonshine” Spirit set to hit liquor and grocery stores legally in 2011 and it is produced by Valley Spirits Distillery in California.

The Bandits have earned a ton of industry credits with music placed in Extreme Sports DVDs, 4×4 DVD’s, and close to 1,000 live shows performed.  The Bandits were a part of TWIZTID’s End of Days Tour and REHAB’s Lack of Luxury Tour.  Moonshine Bandits have performed in Biker Clubhouses where most Police Departments wouldn’t even step foot in, Smoke Filled Dive Bars, Biker Bars, Clubs, Harley Davidson Events, Cage Fighting Events, 4×4 Mud Conventions, Beer Festivals, Music Venues, and just about every other type of venue you can imagine. The ultimate honor was receiving a phone call from the United States Military to perform at Fort Irwin, CA. The Moonshine Bandits performed on July 4, 2010 at the Fort Irwin Military Base located in the Mojave Desert for thousands of our U.S. Troops. Their Live performances rival many of today’s mega super stars. Their show consists of backup singer Derrty D, Award Winning DJ ChopStiqs, Shiner Girl Dancer Kristin aka Firecracker, their drummer B. Diddy and a lifted 4 x 4 Limo. If the Bandits are in your town, be ready for a Hell Raisin’ Good ol’ Time!

As the Moonshine Bandits gained momentum and their fan base started spreading outside of California to different states, and to Japan, Canada, Sweden, and troops stationed overseas, SHINER NATION WAS BUILT. Shiner Nation was formed to unite all the Moonshine Bandits’ fans. The Definition of a Shiner is a Rowdy Individual commonly known as a Moonshine Bandit Fan. Living the Shiner Lifestyle isn’t just about the music, it’s also about partying it up and raising hell your own way. You only live once.  The Bandits Musical foundation was built with a blue collar approach from the ground up.  Their success is truely a result of hard work and doing things “their” way.

Track by track review and rating

  1. The Moon Shines Ft Jeremy Penick: A really solid beat is backed with their own flavor and mix of country guitar and banjos.  The verses are very solid and the hook is really catchy.  A nice track and introduction to the album.  8/10
  2. Throwdown Ft The Lacs: This tracks shows they are not entirely country with the addition of some nice rock backing.  The verses focus on a similar theme as the first track with the country party vibe.  The hook is very nice and easily gets stuck in the listeners head.  8/10
  3. Burn Ft Big B: The music diversity continues here and is very well put together.  Big B adds a nice verse and the hook is solid once again.  9/10
  4. We All Country Ft Colt Ford, Sarah Ross, & Charlie Farley: This song is a unique hybrid of country and hip hop.  The featured artists add a lot to this tracks success.  This track is much more laid back than the rest of the album but it is a nice shift of pace.  7/10
  5. On The Run Ft Durwood Black: A very old school country sound leads this track.  The hook is solid and sets up the verses nicely.  A solid track which leans more country than rap.  7/10
  6. Raise Some Hell: A really good beat backed by guitars again here.  The verses and hook are all about raising hell and partying hard.  This track could easily be found in a range of bars from honky-tonk to new country.  7/10
  7. What She Does To Me: This is the most country out of the tracks up to this point in the album.  A nice county beat and music lead solid verses and a truly country hook.  This track is an enjoyable change of pace.  8/10
  8. Feel No Pain Ft Danny Boone: This song will remind listeners of country artists like Garth Brooks because of its composition.  The hook is nicely put together and the verses are well written around a theme of pushing through even when you want to stop.  8/10
  9. On My Way: Another purely country sound in this track.  This track has a good message about being on the road and how tough it can be.  A nice track overall.  8/10
  10. Much Better: A slow country ballad in this one.  All about missing out on so much while away from loved ones.  The verses set a somber tone and the hook fills that theme out well.  7/10
  11. Wrong Side Of The Street Ft Durwood Black: This track is another pure country track.  While it works it does not fit as well as others on this album.  A good track but will have a hard time appealing to their more hip hop fan base.  6/10
  12. 86: The beat contains a sample from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly which is a nice throwback.  The verses are well done and performed here.  The hook is simple but effective.  7/10
  13. California Country: The first single and video off the album.  It is an anthem for those country lake parties.  A nice beat and hook will have listeners wanting to move to the country and living the life described here.  9/10
  14. Arrest Me: The bandit in us all can feel the vibe of this track.  We have all been to the point this song talks about.  Just lost our job, drinking early in the morning, and willing to get arrested because we are just done with it all.  A good track although the hook is too simple.  7/10
  15. Bar Stool: A much more subdued track to end this album.  The hook is nicely done and will leave the listener with a relaxed feel for sure.  8/10

Conclusion:  The Moonshine Bandits bring us their latest album since Whiskey and Women and take a turn toward a more traditional country vibe.  In this case it works and makes for a very enjoyable album.  Most fans of their first album and those willing to branch out of their comfort zone and give it a listen will find at least a few tracks they really enjoy.  This album is recommended for those fans without a doubt.
