Black Mask Armada - "Black Mask Anthem" Black Mask Armada - "Keys to the City"

What’s Up Ninjas! It’s Johnny O and I’m back with another new addition to the Faygoluvers Underground Spotlight. This time around we bring you a group all the way from South Dakota, the Black Mask Armada. BMA delivers a aggressive sound with a powerful message and consider themselves a not just a group, but a movement.

They are currently hard at work on their latest album “Pitch Black,” which is scheduled for release this Halloween. Also, be on the look out for their track “Live Free” to be featured on the Faygoluvers & Co. Mixtape, but you’ll hear about all this in the interview below.

So, let’s just jump right…

JO: First could you tell us a little about the members of Black Mask Armada?

BMA: The members of the BMA are as follows…

Blacc Demon aka Big Dirrty / a 3rd world beast from Belize is a well-rounded emcee that brings another dimension to his music with his Caribbean flava.

GORILLA PIMP AKA GP /born on the Eagle Butte reservation in South Dakota is a young up and coming emcee with skills of a chopper as well as a never ending supply of energy in his live performance.

Doobius aka DOUBLE AUGHT/ born and bred in the swamplands of Louisiana is the veteran member of the crew bringing his experience and production skills to the table …also known as the Dr. of rhyme.

FATTY AKA FAT JESUS/ from Sioux Falls east side where he still resides is the worlds only 450 pound undead hype man as well as the crews world renowned tattoo artist…your pain is his pleasure!

DJ Dagnabbit aka vinny sak/ rumored to be the bastard child of the Dallas Ft. Worth area spins the wheels of steel for the crew as well as handling management and promotion responsibilities.

JO: How would you describe your musical style?

BMA: Black Mask Armada should be described as “PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE MUSIC” they have an up in your face approach combined with elaborate story telling and relevant subject matter. They are also a genre-bending machine that keeps you guessing, what will they come up with next. Will it be rap? Rock? Blues? Reggae? They have a little something for everyone and are generally spot on with each attempt.

JO: BMA also considers itself a movement as well; can you tell us a little bit about this?

BMA: The Black MASK Armada is more than a musical freak show…they are a movement. Their fans aka the ARMY OF DARKNESS are loyal and fucking insane. The BMA encourages freethinking and individuality. They accept all races, religions, creeds…we didn’t put the mask on….society put the mask on us…nameless and faceless. We do not believe that people should conform to what the mindless masses consider normal or acceptable. One should not be cast out because they choose not to stand next to the rest of the SHEEP at the trough. We challenge people to rise up and go against the grain.

JO: So, how is the music scene out in Sioux Falls, South Dakota?

BMA: The music scene is a lot more active and enriched then what people may think in South Dakota as well as the Midwest. There are many talented musicians from many different genres and it makes for an entertaining and diverse experience when it comes to local and regional music.

JO: I know you’ve been making music for a long time now, how have things changed for the group over the years?

BMA: The main thing that has changed for us over the years is our outlook on hip hop and its mundane repetitious lack of substance…we all had fell into the rut and were consumed by the abyss that is the INDUSTRY. Then it happened…an epiphany. We don’t have to do this…we can be different. We can enlighten and provoke if necessary causing people to WAKE THE FUCK UP and take notice to something that isn’t mindless psycho-babble.

JO: Currently you’re scheduled to appear on the forthcoming Faygoluvers & Co. Mixtape, which is hosted by my boy BeZerk, can you tell us about your contribution to the project?

BMA: We are both honored and extremely excited to be a part of the upcoming Faygoluvers Mixtape. The song that we submitted and Bezerk accepted is “live free” which is a song that calls out the fact that we are allowing people other than ourselves to define what our own pursuit of happiness should be…. FUCK THAT LIVE WHILE YOU ARE ALIVE…. LIVE FREE.

JO: Is there anything else is the works at the moment for BMA that you could let us in on?

BMA: We are currently working on our 3rd album that is entitled “PITCH BLACK” that is scheduled for release on HALLOWEEN just like they always do at their Halloween extravaganza “MONSTERS BALL”. This fuckin freak show is a blast and has showcased former Undergroud Spotlight artists Maniac the Siouxpernatural and Militious. We are also in pre production for a new music video for “live free.”

JO: Would you or any members of the group describe yourselves as Juggalos?

BMA: Almost every member of our group is a juggalo and have no problem letting a mutha fucka know…. the hatchet man is plastered right on the front door of FATTYS TATTYS…the dopest tattoo shop in the Midwest.

JO: So, being Faygoluvers I have to ask, what’s everyone in BMA’s favorite Faygo flavor?

BMA:

Gorrila Pimp= 60/40, Rock n Rye

Fatty= Red pop

Doobius= Candy Apple

Daggnabbit= Rock n Rye

Big Dirrty= Orange

JO: If BMA could work with any other artist, who would love to reach out to for a collaboration?

BMA: If we could collaborate with any artist or group I think the vote would be TWIZTID hands down!

JO: Who would you say have been your inspirations?

BMA: We have drawn inspiration from ICP and psychopathic records simply because of what they achieved with out mainstream radio and video play. We also are inspired by any group that has had the balls to say what they wanted to say and did what they wanted to do, despite of the criticism that came along with it!

JO: If fans what to pick up some BMA merch or just catch up on the Black Mask movement, where should they go?

BMA: We are currently working on our .com as well as our online store in order to keep up the demand for BMA merch…until then hit us up on Facebook and we will take your order!

JO: I always say we wouldn’t be where we are today without the people who have been there for us throughout the years, so how about we end this thing with a few shout outs.

BMA: Last we would like to give shouts out to Josh and the Jay Street Pub in Bruce, SD, Boonies bar may it rest in peace, Bezerk and Faygoluvers for the hook up, Maniac, Militious, the homie “O”, Jesse Yost from Sleigher, Tennessee Murder Club, Circle of Psychos, Stay Live Method, our families, friends, and the greatest fan base on the fucking planet the ARMY OF DARKNESS!!!!
