Sedated

Sedated - "Blow Back" Sedated - "True Will"

Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome once again to the Underground Spotlight, right here on Faygoluvers. I’m Johnny O. and I’m back to bring the family another brand new interview. This time we get to take a closer look at KC, MO’s very own Sedated. Honestly, the man has damn near done it all at this point. Hes performed to large crowds overseas, he runs two radio stations and has become a veteran of the Gathering over the years. Of course, as always, we’ll get into all of that soon enough. Wait, you know what? Maybe we should just start this thing right…about…now!

Johnny O: For those out there in Faygoluvers land who may not have heard of Sedated before can you tell us a little about yourself?

Sedated: My name is William Eric Clifton A.k.a Sedated. Born and raised in Kansas City Missouri. 15th and Topping to the 9treys and beyond.

JO: If you had to describe yourself and your music to a perspective fan, what would you say?

SD: A solo Hip Hop artist on a mission of awareness and redemption. A voice for the truth seekers. And overall an artist who will always represent the people no matter their color or gender.

JO: I also wanted to say congratulations since you just won the Midwest Music Awards hip-hop artist of the year award, how much has this meant to you?

SD: I’d have to say that winning Hip-Hop artist of the year 2015 was totally unexpected. When I first seen that I was even nominated I was honored. I had no idea. But it was real and I was stoked. It was all about the votes at first and even then I was skeptical. I was in the nominees with other talent in KC that I thought had just has much potential to win as I did. Needless to say. In my mind. It was on like Donkey Kong. We started the voting campaign and let the people decide for themselves. Lo and behold it was time to be present at the award ceremony at Voodoo lounge. We got there early to see the performing acts and other winners in their category. Then the time had finally come to where they were presenting Hip-Hop artist of the year. They began to read off the nominees and there I was in the back of the room waiting in what seemed to be a silent room. The man on stage grabs the envelope at the podium and reads off the winner. And the winner was Sedated. It was an epic feeling for real. To finally feel like I am making some headroom in Kansas City. That to me was what it was all about. That’s what made me realize that there was a high amount of love for Sedated in Kansas City. So none the less. It’s an awesome feeling winning Hip-Hop artist of the year in KCMO. 816 all day everyday. Thank you KC for your support and love.

JO: Hailing from Kansas City, MO usually makes people instantly think of Strange Music, but what is the music scene in your area truly like for an artist like yourself?

SD: The music scene in KC is very much alive. But yet still struggles due to poor choices by other individuals. Aftershock and Riot Room are probably the best spots to catch local music in KC. But still. There are many other places you can experience the musical vibes in Kansas City. For me personally it’s been a struggle and a Blessing to be involved in this particular music scene. It can be pretty brutal at times. You never know what you’re gonna get out here. Smack Dab in the middle of the map.

JO: I know that you’ve also amassed a sizable following overseas, can you tell us about that and how it all came about?

SD: Yes. It’s true. I have obtained a sizable fan base over seas. Mainly all of Russia… From what I gathered I got to see more of Russia then most Russians will ever see in their lives. That to me was super crazy. How it came about was just has nutty. Out of thin air we were contacted via email by the booking Machine; a talent agency overseas. They approached us with the offer of opening up for Oxxxymiron. And of course I accepted. It was like 25 dates in 30 days. A very brutal tour schedule in a country you know nothing about but all in all, a very beautiful country at that. Everyone involved in the tour was very professional and helped me get through the experience as smoothly has possible. I couldn’t of asked for a better group of strangers to be on tour with.

JO: Overseas attention aside, you’ve also become a veteran of The Gathering of the Juggalos. How has the family treated you over the years?

SD: First off. I’m honored to be considered a veteran of the gathering. And the Family Love is real. The juggalos have treated me with the highest amount of respect from day 1. For that I am truly thankful because I’ve seen what can happen when an artist is not respected at the gathering. Tila Tequila for example. That was funny because I heard how she spoke to the crowd and instantly thought uh oh!!! And that Shit went down. So, long story short, I wanna thank all of my juggalo supporters for all the love and respect.

JO: Since you’ve been performing at the Gathering for a few years now, maybe you can tell us how has the event changed for you as an artist over the years?

SD: For me the only thing that has changed about the gathering is the location. No matter where it’s at it’s always time around the family. The Music and Fam is what it’s all about.

JO: So, while many Gathering artists have already been announced I happen to notice your name missing from the list. Is it true, will you not be in attendance this year? If so, is it an event you’d like to perform at again in the future?

SD: Unfortunately, it’s true. I won’t be in attendance at this year’s gathering. So I guess that means I’m gonna have to prep for next year. I’ll be in Colorado about the same time shooting a new video for a track off the new EP titled Simply Strains. 31 flavors of Marijuana combined to create a lyrical smokefest. Crossing my fingers that the smokers will dig this one. Nonetheless there’s lots of work on my plate at the moment. So even though I won’t be there this year I am still looking forward to performing at another gathering in the future.

JO: So a new EP, “Simply Strains,” is in the works. Anything currently in the works for Sedated that you can tell us about?

SD: What’s new for the Sedated camp is about to be a slew of things. We’re constantly stacking the ammo over here. Every Day!!! New EP titled “Push Pause” is abougast to be released with a gang of new visuals for all my Sedatives out here. The new videos will be very interesting, we have been working hard in the shadows to make sure what we do will have a first punch knockout effect. I also have been presented the opportunity to open for Krizz Kaliko right here on my home soil at Aftershock in KC. Not to mention Sedated Nation Radio on 102.9 Fm Kansas City is our newest baby and addition to the work we’re performing. We have several great things in the works. If they thought we were asleep then they were sadly mistaken. Sedated Nation is Real. And Sedated is the platform.

JO: Speaking of the radio show, how did this come about and can you tell us how the experience has been?

SD: Sedated Nation Radio on 102.9 FM is real and how it came about is a mystery to me. All I know is Tommy and I was on our way back from Tennessee coming off a tour and video work. We made it back to KC and it was like magic. Poof… It appeared. We didn’t look for it. We didn’t search for it or nothing. It just fell in our laps. It was crazy as hell. So now here we are with a radio station in our lap. But it gets better. Because there’s not just 1 radio show but 2, That’s right. 2 radio shows. Super Crazy. 1. 1140 Am 2. 102.9 Fm… So yeah. You could say the table is full over here at the Sedated camp. Some people might be envious of this situation but you best believe there’s a lot of work that goes into being able to juggle Sedated the music with 2 different radio channels. We produce Everything. People need to know that. We here at the Sedated camp are all self made individuals. We all have our talents and combine them for the greater good of Sedated. And to think, there’s 3 main gears here. Scottradamus, TommyBoy and myself being Sedated. We make the music. We make the videos and now we’re making Radio. Checkmate Sukas… Spacibo

JO: If fans want to check out more from Sedated, where can they find you at?

SD: Go to Sedated816.com for any and all the social media to Sedated.

JO: While you’ve worked and performed with some amazing underground artists, if you could reach out to anyone who would be your dream to collaborate with?

SD: If I could reach out to anyone for a dream collaboration then that would be Maynard James Keenan. One day I’ll make that happen. Patience is a virtue.

JO: Growing up as a huge fan of Tool I can understand where you’re coming from on that one. So, who or what is Sedated currently listening to?

SD: I’m currently listening to e8m3KddBWO0the new Jack White album. Lazaretto is pretty funky and overall the production is amazing.

JO: Who would you say have been your inspirations throughout this journey over the years?

SD: My biggest inspiration is God and my team of individual monsters that I hold dearly to my heart. If not for them, none of this would be where it is today.

JO: Traditionally, I like to end the Underground Spotlight on a positive note. So how about a few shout outs to cap this thing off right?

SD: I wanna give a shout out to my Momma. Thank you for giving birth to this. Shout out to Scottradamus (My Recording Engineer & VP), TommyBoy (My Manager), LBC, Mikey Likey, Smoochie, Ashley, Mott, Timmy, Tom aka Bigfoot, South Side KC Boys, the WHOLE Sedated 816 Team, Lee @ GTTKC, Steve with Aftershock, you guys at Faygoluvers, the fans of course, and I can’t forget about the one and only Chet Czar.

Well Fam, that will just about wrap it up once again for the Faygoluvers Underground Spotlight. I want to give BIG thanks to Sedated, Tom and the entire Sedated Nation for everything. If you enjoyed what you read/heard/saw, be sure to snatch up the new EP’s”Push Pause” & “Simply Strains,” when they drop. Also tune into Sedated Nation radio if you have the means. Honestly, I might be calling in sometime this month. So if you’re already a Sedated Nation listening, be sure to keep an ear out for me one of these nights.

As always if you would like to be featured right here on the Underground Spotlight, shoot me an e-mail at [email protected]. Make sure to include a short bio, why you would like to/should be featured, a track or two and a couple of pics. Of course, don’t forget to include UGS or something similar in the subject line. So, until next time…
