ICP Ready to Rock Canada Day

Some of y’all didn’t know this. I’m Canadian. I know, eh?

Well lucky for me and the rest of us Canadian Juggalos the Wicked Clowns will be on tour here in the Great White North from June 24th until the Gathering of the Juggalos on July 20th!

You know that.

So why am I posting this shit?

Because the Ontario ninjas over at BrantNews.com have posted a write up discussing ICP and even talk to J & Shaggs about the tour.

They’ll be playing in Brantford at Club NV on July 1st, Canada Day (or Canadian’s Independence Day as Shaggy says in the article).

They are hated as much as they are revered but no matter how people feel about Insane Clown Posse, it all adds fuel to their fire.

“For people to hate you the way they hate us, we figure we have to be making a difference in their lives somehow,” Shaggy 2 Dope (aka Joey Utsler) said. “That just adds fuel to our tank and makes us drive harder.”

Utsler is one-half of the Detroit hip-hop, rap duo that includes Violent J (Joseph Bruce.) They are followed by legions of fans – dubbed Juggalos – around the world for their apocalyptical live performances that include dousing the audience with copious amounts of Faygo soda.

Insane Clown Posse will be in Brantford July 1, helping local Juggalos and Juggalettes celebrate Canada Day.

“What’s that like Canadian’s Independence Day,” Utsler asked. “Well, we’ll have to rock the Canadian colours for that. Red and white, right?”

The July 1 performance at Club NV will be one of an extensive 17-stop Canadian tour. It is the first time the duo will have played in Canada in about 10 years.

“We’re so excited to be coming back, especially with being from Detroit, it’s like Canada’s right there,” Utsler said. “You can put an arm out and catch it you know.

“We’ve been trying for the last three years to get the legalities straightened out, finally we did. We’re just so excited to be in Canada it’s ridiculous.”

Utsler was thrilled to hear that Faygo soda is now sold in Canada.

“When we go to like Europe or Australia or that we have to pull tactics because you can’t just drive through customs with a semi full of Faygo without them thinking that you’re selling it,” he said. “What we’ve done in the past as far as Europe and Australia goes is that we would just make a big old Faygo label and then buy whatever soda they have there.

“Obviously we’re not going to pay the import taxes on something like that because they’re ridiculous, especially on something you’re not selling. But hey, if they sell Faygo up there we’re gravy.”

Insane Clown Posse’s live performances are said to be a highlight for fans with lots of excitement and audience interaction.

“There have been chainsaws and once or twice in the early days there have been pyrotechnics, but we spray a lot of, lot of, lot of, lot of, Faygo,” Utsler said. “We put in just as much as you would see in a show in Reno, just put into a much smaller place. The best way I can put it when people ask me is it’s like organized mayhem.”

Insane Clown Posse’s fans were labeled by the FBI’s National Gang Intelligence Centre as a “loosely organized hybrid gang” in 2011. The group filed a lawsuit to remove Juggalos from the FBI list.

They have yet to have their day in court but did win an appeal after the lawsuit was initially dismissed.

“The fact that we won an appeal, that’s wonderful,” Utsler said. “We’re not going to stop until it’s resolved. You’re not going to label people just because they listen to our music that they’re in a gang, that’s insane.”

Utsler hopes to see a good turnout at Club NV when Insane Clown Posse hits the stage on Canada Day.

“You can expect to be very wet, your spirits lifted and your wig blew back off your head,” he said of the upcoming performance. “We come and attack full force and we don’t stop until everybody leaves entertained and dazzled.”

Tickets cost $35 in advance and $45 at the door. They can be purchased online at ticketscene.ca or at The Beat Goes On, 265 King George Rd.

“Now that we can get into Canada again we’re going to be up there all the time,” Utsler said. “Every time we tour there is going to be a Canadian tour.”
