Twenty Years Ago Today Twiztid Nationally Released “Mostasteless” Beyond Michigan Via Island Records!

Whoa! Like The Steve Miller Band said, “Time keeps on slipping into the future!” Twiztid started gaining more of a cult following beyond House of Krazees upon Psychopathic Records first releasing Mostasteless” locally twice in November 1997 (Double headed fetus cover) and August 1998 (Twiztid in hoodies with no face paint). Island Records  then decided to sign Twiztid and re-release (June 22nd, 1999) their debut underground classic “Mostasteless” on a national level and straight up set the United States indie hip-hop scene on fire!  Gawd damn the cover art is fresh! Def has that Marvel Comics 1990’s homage. Which reminds me. Dirk Manning of Source Point Press needs to do a mini comic book story behind this LP! Can you remember where exactly you were when you first bumped  the national release of “Mostasteless” and how the record effected your life personally? Leave your stories below ninjas! Let’s bump it loud and proud tonight!

From In The Pit Photography:

“Twenty years ago today, June 22nd 1999, Twiztid‘s “Mostasteless” was re-released (Nationally) on Island Records (Def Jam). Mostasteless” was initially released on August 25, 1998 by Psychopathic Records. The alternate cover artwork depicted a two-headed fetus and the main cover artwork depicted the faces of Jamie Madrox and Monoxide Child. Psychopathic had not had success with attempting to release albums by artists other than Insane Clown Posse, but “Mostasteless” was well received by ICP’s Juggalo fanbase. While on tour with ICP, Twiztid learned that Psychopathic would pull “Mostasteless” from stores, and that it would be reissued by Island Records.”

“The Island reissue reorganized the track listing, deleting the “Smoke Break” skits, a hidden track at the end of “Renditions of Reality”, Violent J laughing at the end of “1st Day Out”, sampled dialogue from the film Halloween III: Season of the Witch at the beginning of “Whatthefuck!?!?” along with a few of the lines and the songs “Murder, Murder, Murder”, “Somebody Dissin’ U”, “Meat Cleaver” and “She Ain’t Afraid”, but added the new songs “Rock the Dead”, “Spin the Bottle”, “Blink”, “Bury Me Alive” and “Hound Dogs”. Additionally, some of the lyrics in “Diemuthafuckadie” and “Whatthefuck!?!?” are censored on the Island reissue. This version of “Mostasteless” peaked at #8 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and #149 on the Billboard 200.”

“-and straight up set the United States indie hip-hop scene on fire!” LoL Chad you can just say juggalo scene instead, no need to dance around it, you sound like MnE who try every which way not to say juggalo.

Great album, great vibe to it.

The tour was a blast with those serial killers dancing in the background too.

    Good times, good times…

While the 1999 re-issue was fine as it is, and still has a permanent spot on my Twiztid playlist, when I eventually got around to hearing the OG version, you can really tell how the Island version is neutered.

I had bought all the joker’s cards and eps of ICP up to 1999 and I had seen the promo for twiztid most tasteless in the jeckel Bros book. So I said what the hell I called starship records here in Tulsa and asked if they had it. Went to the store and copped it went home pit it in my bad ass 3 disc CD changer and fucking loved the whole album. 2nd hand smoke, die muthafucka die, rock the dead, wtf, and renditions of reality are my favs off the album. I had a ps1 and I was playing resident evil 3 and siphon filter while playing the shit out of it and I also had just Psy RYDAS dumping!! Fuckin good times ninjas!!!!

The guys over at the Juggalo Judgment podcast did an episode on this album fairly recently. Might be worth checking out.

(I may or may not be one of the guys who does that podcast, so I’m shamelessly promoting it here.)

Them old school Juggalo vibes, where i was kicking back blazing and didnt have to worry about paying off debt or bills, or having to slave away at a shitty job. Freedom. Banging tf out with a 40oz of King Cobra with some homies and playing Jak and Daxter on Ps2.
