Do you Juggalos remember when the Insane Clown Posse was feuding with a couple different artists / entertainers / publications back in the day? Do you remember one of them being Slipknot? I don’t either but that may be because that feud (if you’d even call it that) lasted about 1 minute and 20 seconds!
Back in 1999 when Slipknot and their Maggots were just starting to form in the mainstream consciousness, they supposedly decided to get a little publicity for themselves by cooking up a fake beef between them and the Insane Clown Posse.
On an episode of The Howard Stern Show that ICP was appearing on, Slipknot showed up. Right when we thought tensions were going to get high, Slipknot’s drummer Joey Jordison stepped in stating that they’ve never met the Insane Clown Posse but they have nothing but respect for them. Violent J, never hearing a Slipknot song in his life, then compliments the band stating they look “fresh a hell.” He then adds “now that’s entertainment!”
Both Howard and producer KC Armstrong were confused as they both thought there was some sort of beef between the two acts. Drummer Joey Jordison chimes in again stating that the rumors about the feud may have been a ploy to get them on the show. Very clever.
If there was ever a feud between ICP and Slipknot, it was squashed that day on The Howard Stern Show faster than any other beef in music history.
Here is an excerpt:
Slipknot and Insane Clown Posse have had their share of feuds, many of them escalating time and time again over a period of years. The two acts even feuded with each other in 1999, but with less than 80 seconds of tension between the sideshow groups, it goes down as the shortest feud in music history.
In 1999, Slipknot were just starting to blow up. Their self-titled album was getting them a ferocious underground buzz and they were performing on the second stage of Ozzfest. ICP, on the other hand, were 10 years into a wildly successful career, while their 1997 album, The Great Milenko, was on its way to going platinum.
Needing some extra press, the Slipknot team concocted some phony drama between the Nine and ICP, which brought the masked group all the way to The Howard Stern Show. The idea was for Slipknot to confront ICP during their interview with Stern, but Joey Jordison stamped out any fire that could’ve blazed between the two in less than two minutes.
