By this point, we all know that Krizz Kaliko briefly left Strange Music after his contract expired, and then was re-signed within a few weeks at a historic show in Denver, Colorado.  Now that the dust has settled, Krizz had a chance to speak to HipHopDX about the whole situation.  He covers:

  • The emotional announcement onstage
  • Krizz Kaliko’s wife and her influence on the decision

  • Strange Music being a family
  • Krizz considering quitting rap and working for a custom car shop
  • Feeling like he was taken for granted
  • Creative freedom at Strange Music

Check an excerpt from the interview below.

From HipHopDX.com:

Strange Music, Inc. isn’t simply a label — it’s a family. Founded by Travis O’Guin and Tech N9ne in 1999, the Kansas City, Missouri-based imprint has become one of the most successful independent rap ventures of all time.

On Saturday night (October 19), a sold-out crowd funneled into Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado to witness the Strange Music family in action. It was intended to be the final show of the year featuring both Tech and flagship artist Krizz Kaliko, who is never too far away if Tech is on the bill.

Earlier this month, Krizz — or Kali, as he’s often called — shocked his fans when he insinuated his time with Strange Music was up. O’Guin later confirmed with HipHopDX that Krizz was indeed severing ties with his longtime label.

But during an emotional speech, Krizz blindsided everyone — even O’Guin and Tech — when he re-signed with Strange Music in the middle of the show.

There wasn’t a dry eye on stage.

“I never seen him [O’Guin] cry like that,” Krizz told HipHopDX backstage. “I knew it was going tear everybody’s ass up — not that I tried to do it. I knew that’s what was going to happen. I know how emotional I’ve been about it. I’ve been bawling for two weeks straight.

So this whole thing was basically the equivalent of when someone (immature) threatens to break up with their s/o just so they can be reminded of how important they are to them. Childish & ignorant are just a couple of words that come to mind.

Basically. Grown men who have no real-life problems, overreacting and acting out over whether they want to carry on making obscene amounts of money or not. Like when he posted a video of himself crying whilst driving drunk and everyone was like “sending prayers” and “keep your head up”. Im sure everyone would be just as sympathetic if he killed someone whilst filming that video. I know I sound like a hater but these people just need to grow up.

Dude has mental health issues and sometimes making money isnt what makes someone happy. Idk if you know if you can relate or not to mental illnesses such as chronic depression or schitzophrenia, but its not easy to just turn off and ignore for some people. Im sure being famous doesnt make it easier either.
