There are many artists out there who have dabbled with the musical genre known as horrorcore, but only a few can say that they played a role in helping craft the sound. When discussing this topic with fans of the genre, a few names immediately come to mind. The Geto Boys, Esham, Insane Poetry, Three 6 Mafia, Brother Lynch Hung, and many others all deserve their flowers. But today we are going to talk about one specific pioneer of the genre, someone who was recently announced to be making their debut at this year’s Gathering of the Juggalos. Let’s take a moment to give this man his flowers and tell some of you out there about the importance of the one and only Ganxsta N-I-P.

Rowdy Lewayne Williams, better known as Ganxsta N-I-P, was born on August 28, 1969, in Houston, TX. Beginning his career in the streets of Houston, TX, in the mid-80s as Sir N.I.P., he later changed his name to Ganxsta N-I-P and has been stated to have found inspiration in artists like Ice T and 2Short. From the very beginning, N-I-P had a passion for spitting horrorcore lyrics before the genre even had a name, originally referring to his style as psychopath rap.

In 1987, Ganxsta N-I-P co-founded the South Park Coalition alongside fellow Houston rapper K-Rino. However, his big break came in 1991 when he met Scarface and J. Prince of Rap-A-Lot Records after winning a rap competition. Impressed with N-I-P’s unique sound, Prince signed him to the record label and presented him with a $20,000 check the next day. This led to the release of his first full-length studio album, “The South Park Psycho,” on February 25th, 1992, through Rap-A-Lot Records. Despite the absence of any singles, “The South Park Psycho” made waves in the music industry, peaking at #63 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album is considered to be the first to fully feature the horrorcore sound from front to back on a worldwide release scale, solidifying Ganxsta N-I-P’s reputation as a pioneer in the genre.

After the release of his successful debut album, N-I-P continued along his path and reached even greater success with his second solo album, “Psychic Thoughts (Are What I Conceive),”  released on July 6, 1993. The album hit #151 on the Billboard 200 chart and #30 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. N-I-P went on to release two more chart-topping albums for Rap-A-Lot Records, “Psychotic Genius” in 1996 and “Interview With A Killa” in 1998.

On May 18th, 1999, Ganxsta N-I-P released “Psycho Thug,” his fifth studio album to date which also acted as his first independent album through his own label, Happy Alone Records. “Pycho Thug” would go to be the only album released under the imprint. But his career didn’t end there, because in 2001, N-I-P linked up with horrorcore rapper Mars, who signed N-I-P to Rest in Peace/Black Market Records. Working closely alongside Mars, N-I-P dropped his sixth studio album, “The Return!!! (of the Psychopath), on November 11, 2003.

After a five-year hiatus, N-I-P returned to the world of music, once again venturing out on his own, releasing his seventh studio album, “Still Psycho,” through his newly founded label, Psycho Ward Entertainment, where N-I-P has continued dropping his music to date.

In 2015, N-I-P started releasing more socially and spiritually conscious music under the name Brother NIP, stating that Gangsta N-I-P wasn’t gone but was more or less taking the backseat while Brother NIP got his message out. He released his debut under the moniker “Street Messiah” in 2016 and has released multiple albums under both names since.

With news recently dropping that after all these years he will be releasing Part 2 of his debut album titled “South Park Psycho 2: Back To The Beginning,” what better time than now for us to give this man his flowers as he prepares himself for what is sure to be a monumental set on the main stage at this year’s Gathering of the Juggalos?
