With a very impressive list of previous work, Dennys IIic is already known in Strangeland for his past work with Tech N9ne on the EP cover, ‘Therapy’. So this duo of talent was no stranger to the techniques of how each other works and operates. The two veterans of this industry came together in Tech’s home and began seeking inspiration by listening to the album in its entirety.

Now, I’m not sure if all of you are aware of this bit of information or not. But this album symbolizes a 20 year milestone in Tech’s career. Also, with that being said, Tech’s first album released was titled “The Calm Before The Storm”, it’s safe to say the inspiration of lyrics and album work came simply from his 20 year career journey.

When I first looked at this album cover I didn’t realize the time and effort that actually went into this album art. I’ll link you to the whole story below, but I wanted to mention this is an ACTUAL photo. This isn’t no painting, no Photo shop was used. They performed an actual photo shoot by a Photographer and visual master, Dennys’ IIic.

Tech stood in a blow up pool, with sprinkler’s raining down around him and smoke machine’s rolling behind him.  And together they made ‘The Storm’ come to visual life!!

 

 We just had water pouring, we had a smoke machine going in the background to give some base for the clouds effect that we did in post-production afterwards as well, and then added a little bit of rain. There was this beautiful artwork [of the photo] by Scott Harben done for us after the fact and a lot of people look at it and see the photograph, but it looks like a painting. People come up to me – we got an 8-foot metallic version of that photograph here in the studio in Hollywood, and people would go up to it and look and say, “Is that a photograph or a painting?” And I say, “Yes”. [laughs] It’s a little bit of a cross-between of both.
