Canadian Juggalo Hit by A Cab In Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Canadian man traveled across the border three weeks ago to see a Buffalo Bills game but he has been in a hospital bed ever since.

To add insult to injury, Sitter’s insurance in Canada will only cover a fraction of the cost.

Robert Sitter, 31, of Hamilton, Ontario is receiving life-saving care at ECMC. He was hit by a cab after the Bills-Dolphins game last month while crossing Southwestern Boulevard. The hospital bill could be tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars – money the family just doesn’t have.

To add insult to injury, Sitter’s insurance in Canada will only cover a fraction of the cost. Sitter is such a loyal fan, he has a Bills tattoo over his heart.

His father, Rob Sitter, Sr. said, “He’s got a “man cave” full of Bills paraphernalia, toaster included.”

Sitter, the father of a 15-month-old girl, was crossing the boulevard with a friend when he was hit by a taxi cab. He was rushed to ECMC suffering from head trauma, broken ribs and a fractured jaw. He is still in a coma-induced state, but his common law wife, Kimberly Welsh, tells News 4 he is showing some signs of recovery.

“He opened his eyes for me today. He wants to come home,” Welsh said.

Sitter never thought of taking out traveler’s insurance for the day or two he would spend in western New York for Bills game. His family has been told Canadian insurance will cover $400 a day for his hospital care, but his bills could amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

His sister, Samantha Sitter said, “I don’t see how even, as a family, that we can do that, come up with that sort of money.”

Sitter’s family has been traveling back and forth across the border to visit with him. His common law wife now has $5 million worth of travel coverage she purchased for $85.

“Don’t take it for granted. It’s so affordable to families. It really is. I mean, it would certainly help,” Welsh said.

A trust fund has been established to help the family with medical bills. Donations can be made at TD Canada Trust Branch 0090, Account Number: 90-6488659, in Kim Welsh’s name.
