Haven't seen a post on this yet so I thought I would start one.
FYI American Gods is one of my favorite books. The novel follows Shadow, a man who is let out of prison early because of the death of his wife. Upon his release, a man called Mr. Wednesday offers him a job being his body guard and errand boy.
context spoilers below
In the American Gods world, there are ancient gods and modern gods (modern gods being things like TV, the freeway etc) and Mr. Wednesday is trying to organize the ancient gods into battle for one last attempt at being relevant in a modern world. It sounds very actiony, but mostly it's a very talky book with some very dark, and intense moments. It gets very dark and fucked up. The story dips back into history to introduce the gods and how they came into America so we get a lot of glimpses of vikings, of slavery, etc.
It's a story about Mythology and about culture and story telling with the central idea being that thought gives power to things, thought creates and destroys.
I'm super excited about this. If you're into mythology, especially the nordic, russian, egyptian, or african gods, this show will delight the fuck out of you.
Neil Gaiman is a genius writer who has written amazing books and comics, such as Coraline, Stardust, The Sandman (one of the best comics ever), Mr. Punch, Signal to Noise, and so many others. He's one of my favorite writers and often mixes mythology, folklore, and horror / dark fantasy elements in unique ways.

somebody here recommended that i read american gods [probably you, noah], so id rather read the thing before i watch any adaptations. i almost always get more from the books than the flicks.
its on my list. the list that i likely wont get through until im a senior citizen.
id be through it in three months, if i didnt have to pay bills.

I haven't heard of that, but it definitely sounds pretty interesting. I'll check it out.
It's definitely worth a check. The book is kinda meandering and that can be off putting to people but it's sooooo good.
