You better be fuckin' trollin' me with that Stay-Puft shit.... OMG that's some shit on sniper status!!!!

And the new Ecto is DOGSHIT.... when I have a moment, I'll give you a few pages why....

...as far as toys are concerned, use the new TMNT toys as an example... they don't exist on the shelves anymore... because they look like SHIT and NO ONE likes the new "Dinosaurs" look wit hthe fuckin' nostrALs n'shit...

They may have won points with me if they had conjured up the Ecto-3 (the gyro copter from the cartoon) but any kind of bullshit about Dan's original script and the hearse is gonna be met with some bare knuckle brawlin'....

FUCK THIS MOVIE.

FYI, I was KIDDING about the "few pages on it"...

And now that I look at that Stay-Puft picture, the OTHER one is actually supposed to be the ghost from their logo...

HOWEVER... [uber nerd brain access]

The only depiction of the ghost with the BOWTIE is from the opening animation from "The REAL Ghostbusters" cartoon...

If that's supposed to be some kind of inside joke/sleight on the fans that want this movie to burn they can go fuck themselves.

I'll watch it if it plays at the local theater. Small place, doesn't always get the big films right away. I actually don't give a fuck about the original Ghost Busters so I have no real frame of reference for any of the complaints.

Also those toys look pretty gnarly. Something I'd consider buying for my little sister, if she likes the movie.

Eh, looks like another shitty remake flick to sucker in the nostalgia junkies. Which is something that's been happening for years now. I'll avoid this one the way I've been avoiding most other remakes (Friday the 13th did it right)

The only difference I see in this one is that people really fucking hate the idea but their foaming at the mouth has absolutely-totally nothing to do with it being all female leads. Nothing to do with it at all. Nope. Nothin'

Oh shit you're right. And maybe if you were an adult when you first saw the original you'd have the same feelings about it as you do the new ones. They are kids movies, after all.

I hope others can enjoy the irony of Juggalos shitting on other people's fandoms on a website catering to those that appreciate "The Most Hated Band In The World"...

@robtidwell That's pretty recidivist of you there, 'oh CONNOISSEUR of the fine arts and the defense of minority sexualities' ...

... so wait, was the movie "FOR KIDS" before or after a woman was asked if she was menstruating? Oh wait! I bet it was after a ghost gave Ray a blowjob! Nope...? Then I BET it was somewhere around the time someone says, "I want you inside me... subcreature."...

And just to address the whole "cuz they're women thing"...

This is the same troll bullshit as the "Black Storm Trooper" thing. Much like that situation, the ORIGINAL argument is not what the "outcry" gets reported. Star Wars nerds were just flipping their shit because supposedly all the Storm Troopers are clones so they should all look like the pacific-islander guy they were cloned from. And we know what it turned into. A bunch of reports on racist nerds from people that have NO troll radar.

Ghostbusters is the same shit. NO one objects to the concept of female Ghostbusters. Nobody. What everyone cares about is the OBVIOUS attempt to pour bleach on a canvas that's already been painted.

And we're not talking about some movie that fell of the face of the earth and developed a cult following and those are the people complaining.

Sigh, I guess it's an age thing. You youngin's ain't got no appreciation or respect. In a "sample" world, the original is only good enough to steal from...

Pfft... GTFOH

I think you misunderstood me. The movie was made for kids (pg rating, general family friendly jokes with some adult content, toy and cartoon releases), but that doesn't mean it was bad. We all saw it as children and loved it because it was a bit edgy for kids. None of us were 30 when it came out.

Expecting a modern movie to appeal to you by the sane standards as an adult as when we were kids doesn't make sense. Just like how most Juggalos favorite jokers card is their first jokers card, we were younger. We experienced the world differently. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the original to acknowledge that outright.

And believe it or not but lots of kids menstruate. About half of them around the age of 12, actually.

No one is bleaching your precious canvas. The canvas still exists. Nothing is changing about the original. The new movie takes place 30 years later. It's a new story that uses the concept of the original. The original cast are part of it and like what is going on. There's NO reason that the women involved shouldn't be involved.

What women would you want to play the new generation of ghostbusters? Since its not about them being women. The cast are from snl, have the same kinda humor and Melissa McCarthy wrote the script because she too loved the original. This isn't corporate America creating yet another spin off just to cash in on a hot trend. It's a comedian who created and pushed for the chance to work with a property that meant something to her as a comedian.

Your condescending comment about youngins loses steam when i got gray hairs, but let's dissect it. No respect? You're literally throwing a fit that girls are touching your precious geek property as if it belongs to you and only you. It doesn't. You complain about Sampling on a hip hop message board?

Things get remade. Hollywood doesn't really like new ideas. It sucks but since you're so mature and wise with age you should have gotten used to that by now.

Trying to drag down people who are actually excited or at last cautiously optimistic is making you look like an ass.

When they remade herby, i thought wow that's kinda silly and then forgot about it more or less. I didn't sit around and whine that a girl was in the lead role or complain that they tarnished the original which i loved as a kid ( though unlike ghostbusters it didn't really hold up over the years).

No one is shitting on ghostbusters. Literally everybody in this thread said they loved the original as far as i can recall. I own both on dvd as well as the cartoon. I show them to the kids in my life as often as they'll let me. The only people shitting on anything are the ones who think having women in the main roles are a hostile attack on the original. It isn't. I mean you're looking so hard for reasons to be mad that you're mad they made a reference to the cartoon. Think on that.

@robtidwell That's pretty recidivist of you there, 'oh CONNOISSEUR of the fine arts and the defense of minority sexualities' ...

tidwell has said a couple times that he has disdain for fine arts.

his loss, in my opinion.  but still.

... so wait, was the movie "FOR KIDS" before or after a woman was asked if she was menstruating? Oh wait! I bet it was after a ghost gave Ray a blowjob! Nope...? Then I BET it was somewhere around the time someone says, "I want you inside me... subcreature."...

okay.

even so, you aint gonna find one person in this forum that was over fourteen when they first saw it.  eh, maybe one, two.

whatever.  point is, we all saw ghostbusters as kids, and dug it as kids.  forget exactly what year it came out, but i was around eight or nine when i saw it.  in fact, you just reminded me that i didnt get the menstruating joke, and had to ask what he was talkin bout.

im sure it would be pg-13 at least today.  maybe even then, if pg-13 hadnt been extremely uncommon, at the time.

aaaaand...

exhibit b:  ghostbusters 2.

look, all this really means is that ghostbusters is an enduring little mythology.  this is what happens to those, they get re-envisioned.

how many times have they revamped zorro?  robin hood?   jesus

the 'og' fans of those stories probably bitched abuot the changes, too.

this is just like a remix of a beloved song...  if you change things, people hate on you for changing them.  if you dont change anything, theres no point in remixing it, cuz itll just be the same shit, and ya might as well go with the first one.

  awfully paranoid, arent you?

Minor point of correction, i love the fine arts when it's conceptual and tends toward honest or emotional, dislike it when it is aesthetic and idealized.

I'll admit that McCarthy and Wiig are pretty funny but all chicks.....not a good idea.  They could've at least substituted the other 2 with Danny McBride and Jonah Hill.  That would be an interesting mix of characters.

Oh Mr. Tidwell... I'm not mad... I'm just very disappointed in you.

1. I would really wish in the future that you please remove your rose colored, SJW branded eyewear when you read my shit. I see you enjoyed my "canvas" metaphor but saw fit to ignore the sentences the preceded it. Ya know, the one's where I say (even using CAPS) that NO ONE but trolls gives a shit about the fact that they ARE women but, I guess I should have used MORE CAPS... Ya could have avoided all that extraneous typing about shit no one (specifically *I*) said. I can't speak about how 'ol Schmuck is gonna respond but do not address anything having to do with them BEING women as a sex and not as a plot manipulation towards ME.

And not that I should have to quantify my thoughts on that any further but just for YOUR edification, I have thought Melissa McCarthy is hilarious since her little bit part in the movie "GO!" just answering a fuckin' door! Kristen Wiig is funny as shit as well and I like so many of her SNL characters. The other girl (what's her name) is ALSO funny and has definitely become a standout on the cast. Black Shrek can fuck off though. THERE! Okay? So any discussion on that tangent is barking up the wrong tree. I don't have to hate women or THESE actresses to hate this movie! And I don't know where you're getting your info from cuz Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson are the only ones attached doing CAMEOS and from what is being said, they are NOT playing their old parts...

2. Who have *I* "dragged down" in the course of voicing my disdain for this movie? I'm pretty certain that all of my "FUCK"'s have all been followed by "THIS MOVIE"'s... and nowhere have I said, "Fuck you people who are going to see this movie!".

3. You've lost major points in any future discussion of art with me. If you don't or won't understand the nature and value of persistence, consistence and the PERMANENCE of art than I just don't have the words to keep throwing out pearls. I know that as Juggalos, we've learned to appreciate destruction as a form of creation but let's not apply that factor to this...

How about a proof of concept? How about you go ahead and enter up into the Gathering art contest? Okay? Make sure to name them and put little title cards with them on easels too! Make sure everyone sees them. I'm sure they're great and everyone will like them and tell other people to see them too. And what *I will do is come in later with a few cans of paint and some brushes and IMPROVE your "art". Sure, why not? Cuz back when you made those paintings, the world was different and I just really feel like your work is gonna need to be updated for a new Gathering crowd who won't be able to appreciate your old art without my newer additions, omissions and outright changes.

Here's an exercise on that concept:

Image Enlarger

Please explain to the class why the picture on the RIGHT is NOT regarded as the preferred rendition as it applies to your previous assertions. I bet it's because a woman did it? Or maybe it's because she's Latino? According to the points you've made, the picture on the right represents every one of your tenants as to how art can and should be allowed to be changed and repurposed as those in the future see fit. You SHOULD like the one on the right MORE than the one on the left because it's newer... and if you DON'T than you are a racist, misogynist, age-ist that can't let go of the past... You can't comment on it being "better or worse" than the original cuz that's your OLD opinion; the one you had BEFORE you saw the new one. And that could be the ONLY reason you couldn't NOT like the one on the right... right? Cuz that's REALLY why people hate on remakes and reboots, in'it?... That at the heart of EVERY one of those complaints is an "-ISM" waiting to strike out rather than a deep abiding love for something that came before it.

ps. You compared "Herby The Love Bug" to "Ghostbusters"...ninja

  1. I read the sentences about how you didn't hate that it's women but i don't believe you. This film isn't a manipulation towards you. It has nothing to do with you.
  2. You dragged me down when you referred to me as if i were a child and also mocking me repeatedly. I don't mind so much, but you cant pretend like you're sitting here all pious.
  3. A major reason much of the art that we have that has persisted is because it took a giant dump on the conventions that the older generations held so tightly, and then advancements in technology in western society created legacy works that we preserved.  There's actually nothing inherently great about the Jesus painting you posted other than that were told its important. And many artists don't actually do all of their own work. All four of the teenage mutant ninja renaissance artists, for example, used countless students to create their most memorable works. They are only valuable because we pretend they are ( true for everything). I kinda love the defaced version because it's hilarious and it restructured the painting to resemble primitive practices. I greatly prefer primitive practices. And vandalism.
  4. Making a new film DOES NOT DESTROY THE ORIGINAL.
  5. I entered the art show last year. I don't paint though. If someone vandalized my work that i created i would be hurt But if someone asked me hey can i take your idea and do my version of it? I'm gonna jump up and down with excitement. I would love to see more shit like what i do. Last year before they announced the art show i asked jumpsteady if they could do one specifically because i want to encourage all Juggalos to create more art. We can't all be as skilled as say tom wood or Rachel but we can all do cool weird shit and i will gladly help people learn my techniques. Gladly. Especially if they wanna take em and reshape them. That'd be amazing.
  6. I thought the woman who did the vandalism was white but it's been a couple years so i might be misremembering. I love that she played it off like she was an old senile lady but she's actually a very skilled painter with a brilliant view on art.
  7. But again... MAKING A NEW MOVIE DOESN'T DESTROY THE ORIGINAL. God. If ONLY it did. I would go about destroying so many will Farrell movies. So. Many.
  8. You can love something without hating something else. I love marcel duchamps work but i don't hate andy warhols.
  9. Duchamp is dope btw. Google duchamps fountain. nah fuck google. Image Enlarger
  10. What he did was he got into this famous gallery space where the top artists of his time were being presented by the government of France as the best painters and sculptors of the world. He would do shit that basically pissed off the art world like hand strings all over the place to make it impossible to walk through the entry way to see the show proper. I forget exactly the circumstances related to fountain but essentially he picked up a discarded urinal, wrote a fake signature on it and flipped it around. This, he said, was his newest sculpture. Literal riots started but he changed the way artists think about art. And oh my god if i could smash it with a hammer i would die of excitement because although i love his view on art it has become the establishment view and how great would it be to smash the establishment.
  11. Sorry, tangent.
  12. Anyway I'm not saying this will be better than the old ones. I love the originals. But my love of one thing does not equal hate for another and THE ORIGINALS ARE STILL HERE. Instead of complaining about how terribly rude it is for them to redo a movie you love... You could be watching the movie.
  13. I'm actually all for criticism but you have posted multiple times about how much you hate the thing that hasn't even come out yet with little to no reasons why. "I didn't think the jokes were funny" is fine. I didn't think the "it got in every crack" joke worked but I'm not the kid this movie is made for, my nephew is. And he died at the trailer.
  14. I didn't compare herby and ghostbusters and even said herby didn't hold up as well. What i compared were reactions to remakes.
  15. And btw i got the information that nearly all of the original cast were in it from imd but their characters names aren't present like i said upthread. Also two of the actors from the sequel made it into the trailer.
  16. I think the trailer was purposefully vague about plot points but i wouldn't be surprised if when all the apocalyptic stuff starts happening we get ghost versions of characters we love but that's speculating.
  17. I'll make a deal with you though: i won't assume you're reacting the way you are because it's women if you acknowledge that they aren't physically destroying the originals and that it might actually be funny since you already said some of the actresses are funny and they wrote it.
