What's today's episode? Bubbled? I doubt they'd have Steven floating in space with Eyeball et al. without some reason. Maybe he's gonna wind up asking her about Pink Diamond? I doubt we'll get anything super juicy, but we might get something.

Maybe meeting Sardonyx would be the catalyst Peridot needs to finally attempt fusion herself. But with whom?

Now that we've seen Steven fuse with someone other than Connie, I suspect we'll see more of him and the other gems' fusions. I'd especially like to see Steven/Garnet and Steven/Pearl, because there's interesting parent-child dynamics there. Also, Pearl and Steven have fairly different personalities.

You know what I want? A "The Answer"-style flashback detailing Rose Quartz shattering a Diamond.

Also, I was thinking about that red-and- Green feral Quartz. Jasper also got all green and splotchy when she corrupted, so that Quartz might not have been red and green, but just red. Or... a close relative of red. Like pink.

What, you mean Steven gets corrupted, and everyone is like, "Oh shit, can't have a show without Steven, better figure out how to fix this,"?

I figure Jasper is gonna be the first one to be cured of the corruption; either her or Centipeedle. Since the corruption isn't a physical illness, but rather the physical manifestation of a psychological break, I would think that one would have to treat the source of the problem -- the despair, the hopelessness, the psychosis -- in order to treat the corruption.

Very little on the show seems to happen without reason. Even the filler often turns out to be less-than-filler. Steven grew the Watermelon Stevens so that they could later help defeat Malachite. The Centipeedles were in EPISODE 1, for fuck's sake. Then Steven befriends one. Then she becomes part of a "show, don't tell" mechanic to explain what the corruption really is. I strongly suspect we'll see her and her friends again.

The way they're doing all of this, fast-and-hard, it smacks to me that they're setting something up.

Bam! We find out Rose Quartz was ideologically opposed to shatterinf gems.

Bam! We find out Jasper (and Rose!) were Pink Diamond's gems.

Bam! We find out Rose supposedly shattered Pink Diamond, an act she is supposedly opposed to.

They're building up to something. Either we're going to find out that Rose wasn't quite as good of people as we thought, or we'll find out that Rose was actually Pink Diamond. I'd be okay with it, either way.

Now, because I sit firmly in the "Rose is Pink Diamond" court, what I personally think might happen is that it's going to come to the point where Steven finds out he's a Diamond, and he's going to have to deal with that. Part of dealing with that is going to be making amends to the people hurt by the Diamond Authority -- People like Jasper.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, Steven finding out he's a Diamond might be the first step in finding out how to cure the corruption. It was strongly implied by both Centipeedle and Jasper (and even Pearl) that the Diamonds purge out undesirables, and that this purge can result in the corruption. If the Diamonds can cause corruption, they can surely fix it.

I do want to play devil's advocate and point out that Steven becoming corrupt probably wouldn't give us any reliable information. The Rose Quartz gem has been seen in two different fusions now, both of which resulted in Quartz varieties. Jasper has seen her and Steven fight; if either of them had used the skills or magic of a Diamond, I feel like she'd probably know. (Although, she was made on Earth, which suggests she might not have been created until after Pink Diamond's fall, and only knows what she was told about Pink Diamond.) There's also the issue of Garnet; while she didn't exist at the time of Pink Diamond, one of her constituents likely might have. Sapphire is described as a Homeworld Gem, so she likely was generated on Homeworld, in an era before the rebellion.

There's the possibility that Garnet is just keeping mum on the details out of respect for Rose, and some of Steven's powers seem too OP for a fucking Quartz (his dream powers, and the ability to take over bodies, for example) but if Rose really is a Diamond, then I think she's gone deep stealth. And you know, if anyone would have the skills to make themselves look like another gem -- right down to the gemstone -- I imagine it would be a Diamond.

I still think Rose is Pink Diamond, but it won't be as surprising to me if it turns out she isn't, after this week. I do expect we'll find out soonish, though; we're reaching a point where we could reasonably expect to start taking on Homeworld. I think the big reveal that Steven is a Diamond would come around the same time as when we actually start fighting the Diamonds.

I definitely think Jasper became corrupted for the same reason Centipeedle became Steven's friend, though: they're setting up for later plot.

I personally believe the Crystal Gems are pulling an Obi-Wan Kenobi on Steven, and Rose was like a reverse Darth Vader type situation. They're telling him his mom destroyed Pink Diamond, and maybe in a way she did. Like, she destroyed the idea of Pink Diamond by assuming a new identity, and then kept that secret safeguarded, and maybe they're waiting for the right time to tell Steven, whenever that will be. 

This is basically my theory, although I also think it's possible the Crystal Gems themselves don't know. Garnet very well could have been recruited after the fact, Amethyst definitely wasn't even around yet, and Bismuth could have been told whatever Rose wanted her to think. Even Pearl might not know, if it turns out she isn't Pink Diamond's Pearl.

But basically I figure Pink Diamond faked her own death, took the form of one of Quartz soldiers (the "everyman"), and she and her Pearl went and led the rebellion.

It's even possible that Rose isn't the original Rose. Like, some Rose Quartz really did start the rebellion and tried to shatter a bitch, and Pink Diamond took the bitch out but was then like, yo. You're right. This tyranny is whack. And then she assumed the form of her would-be assassin.
