On the topic of Walking Dead theres something that has been bugging me this evening.  In numerous situations during the series they ellude to both directly and indirectly that they feed captive walkers and wild ones feed constantly.  If this is the case and they chew and swollow flesh in masses of hundreds...WHERE IS THE ZOMBIE SHIT.  If they can chew and swollow then where does it go after they do?  You would think that over a year after the apocolypse there would be zombie shit all over most major cities and roadways...it honestly baffles me.

TLDR: WHERE IS THE ZOMBIE SHIT?

This is really starting to bug me so im reposting it.

ah, you are correct.  most sorry.

faulty memory, and thc.

I disagree about the Walking dead show its better then alot of stuff out there which admitadly isnt saying much.

that last part is why is really dont watch any tv at all anymore.  honestly, it usually isnt a problem for me to be a couple years behind the bandwagons on tv shows [and most movies and video games], cuz that way i get a better idea of whats worth it, and what is trendy hype.

so any bitching im doing about spoiling shit is mostly just taunting people to be an ass.

the zombie shit costs more money and thus is less profitable, and theyve proven that the ratings dont suffer enough to justify it.

plus, one of the many reasons that the whole undead thing is ultra played out:  the stories invariably turn from man v zombie, into man v man, with zombies as slow and boring [but theoretically dangerous] cheerleaders.

It is all very unrealistic. Zombies in TWD can still move with just their heads in jars. Even with half a body (blood already spilled out) they move.

I'm not very educated so maybe I just don't understand.

I can get that it's possible for the muscles to keep moving for a bit due to the calcium ions required for exposing the myosin binding sites of the muscles fibers since calcium ions are stored in the sarcoplasmic reticulum membrane of the fibers and they would still have a little supply of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) which is the molecule that stores the energy for the motive power of the muscle, but how does this ADP get replenished with no blood flow to the muscles? With no replinishment of glucose to the muscles, no ATP (this is the triphosphate version) is formed. Yes, I know, ADP can be converted to ATP through other mechanisms like the breakdown of creatine phosphate adding to the ADP but that still requires blood flow to supply the creatine phosphate. And what about the oxidation required for it all to work? Where does the oxygen come from? (Head in a jar of water shouldn't work).

ive given impromptu lectures not unlike this.  turned movie night into anatomy night.

how can an apparently dessicated being maintain the proper water pressure equilibrium to prevent the cell walls from tearing?

what is causing the neurons to fire?  sometimes, you see an undead with, for example, an upper arm completely denuded to bone, yet the hand still seems to respond to motor commands.  do the undead grows special nerves inside their bones?

in terms of physics, the undead genre is about as far from plausibilty as superman.  who i also can go on about.  most superheroes, really, for the obvious reasons.

i can suspend my disbelief, far as how they can move and shit like that.  perhaps the undead are attuned to the force, or sumn.

but when a severed head is screaming despite having no lungs...  that just reminds me that its all fake, that there are thirty people standing just off camera, and that most tv shows and movies are made by people who are literally dumber than the average man on the street.

another thing that gets me is that the undead dismember and eat people, who then turn into undead, who dont look like theyve been eaten, they look like...  undead.  like they got put back together.  it should mostly be little piles of guts slithering around.  and toes, inchworming across the streets.

best of all...  why were so very many people stupid enough to fall victim to these sluggish, dimwitted things to become undead in the first place?  there shouldnt even be any herds.

in the walking dead, they sidestep this issue by having rick in a coma when it all went down...  but it never occurred to him to ask anybody how the fuck it happened?

  awfully paranoid, arent you?

Okay, so here is my theory on this. It's quite simple actually, they're dead, they don't shit. Being dead means all vital organs have shut down and any signs of life have ceased. No heartbeat, no breathing, no thinking, no digestive acids to break down food into shit. The last time zombies took a shit is the moment they died and voided their bowels. Any flesh they consume stays inside their stomachs, never to be broken down OR SHAT OUT.

LOL. Does this help?

Walking Dead zombies seem too skinny for that theory, unless they're bulimic. Zombievomit, zombievomit, zombievomit...

Well remember alot of them probably havent eaten anybody. Like the walker that ate Lori in season 3? When Rick found him, his gut was all full and bloated. I believe that most walkers never actually get the whole enchilada, so to speak.

I read somewhere that the producers think they will get 12 season out of this show.  I have to force myself through each episode now.  First two seasons were decent, but now it's just a drag.

It's not that they are dumb, it's that it adds effect. None of this is plausible so why go so far into detail about such trivial shit?

It's like, wouldn't a Star Wars movie be really fucking boring if they made it realistic? There is no sound in space, so all those sound effects they put in the movie would be gone. It would just be pure silence as you watch lasers fly into an aircraft and it explodes.

So it's not stupidity and ignorance, it's just making it more entertaining.

But, yeah, I've been preaching to tons of people over the years that a zombie apocalypse wouldn't even be possible because we'd fix it before it could even get out of control. People are so quick to jump to conclusions that I'm  sure the first person to even seem like a zombie would be killed. But that would just make a boring television series, wouldn't it? A few Zombies emerge, they wipe most of them out. Obama makes a speech. The congress debates issues on zombie control. By law a corpse has to be shot in the head when first noticed. They start doing Zombie treatment research. A 6 month treatment that might help people fight zombieness. Dozens of underground remedies surface claiming that the 6 month zombie treatment is a huge rip off, the government is just trying to take your money, they are hiding the true cure. The cure is marijuana.

oh yeah, star wars is no exception.

what im on is the fundamental flaws in the story premises.

as a star wars example, they did fine using the force as a 'magic wand' [warp drives, insane viruses, genetic engineering, mutant superpowers, all 'magic wands', you see], until george tried to get just a little bit scientifical about it, with the midichlorian thing, and fucked it right up.

that kinda shit stands in the way of suspension.  sound in space, or however the hell a lightsaber or hyperdrive is supposed to work, thats easier to let ride.

So it's not stupidity and ignorance, it's just making it more entertaining.

if done well enough.

But, yeah, I've been preaching to tons of people over the years that a zombie apocalypse wouldn't even be possible because we'd fix it before it could even get out of control.

i know a guy, hes on his way to being a full-on doomsday prepper.  he sincerely believes that the 'zombie apocalypse' is coming.  or at least, that its a real thing that might happen, and its important for him to be ready for it.  hes got like thirty boxes of ammo stowed away.  creeps me out a bit, actually, since ive always maintained that the secret appeal of the modern undead genre is that it gives you an excellent reason to shoot your friends and neighbors.

ive talked to about a dozen other people who think it could actually, really happen, too.

People are so quick to jump to conclusions that I'm  sure the first person to even seem like a zombie would be killed. But that would just make a boring television series, wouldn't it? i would watch this, if it was done right.  the apocalypse happens to the zombies, not to us.

add it to the list of awesome flh forum movie ideas, and when someone wins the lottery, well film it.

They did this. It was called 2001: a space odyssey, and it was great!

even 2001 had a few little problems.  all in all, though, about as close as anybody has gotten so far, to 'realism'.  no glaring mistakes.

but then, no wookiees or lightsabers or desperate run-n-gun escapes from undead hordes, either.

In a deviation from the norm, ya'll are taking a way to scientific view of zombies...

It all depends on what canon of zombie you're working with. Some are infectious, some are radiation based, others are plagues, others are infectious, others are spiritual... what makes them a great monster concept is that the people.dealing with them do not really know what causes it...

Why do some.zombies want to eat your brain and others just want flesh? Why don't they ever seem to eat your eyeballs?

Saying that the first to exhibit symptoms would be dealt with beforehand excluded all the other corpses that would become zombies... it just depends on what mythos yer working with...

Either way, as a statement of fact, if there were ever a country wide power outage, you have 10 days to flee to the Rocky Mountains before every nuclear power plant in the country went critical and began spreading radiation clouds across the seaboards... zombies are the least of your worries...

Holy shit. I never even considered this scenario. So the fact that this hasn't happened yet in The Walking Dead universe makes the series a tad unbelievable? I read the comic series for awhile, TWD always struck me as a story that tries to accurately describe what would go on within a REAL undead plague.
