I've been in another forum, and there is this hipster guy that makes avant-garde jazz music and everybody was kissing his ass over this album that he recorded over his phone. Like, nobody gave him shit for it except for me. He also posted an interview he did to promote the album with a college paper or something. He said "It's name your price so you can get it for free if you want but if you want to pay for it like you should want to then you can". I'm like, how can he be so egotistical and expect people to care that much when he doesn't even care enough to pay for studio time or get some proper mixing and mastering done? I told him that and now he's going to be passive aggressive towards me, I know it. Either way, point is, the brutal honesty of this forum is something to be valued.

I love the pay what you want model. According to bandcamp, on average, bands make more when they do "pay what you want" over the typical 9 dollar album. I think with experimental music that doesn't really have a niche market, it's probably even more likely to work. There might be someone out there who really digs jazz recorded on cell phones (but probably not).
Maybe I'm just being defensive because that's exactly what my punk band is planning on doing lol.
