After the September 11, 2001 bombings, I was irritated by how many people siddenly started hanging American flags. I understand the patriotism and signals of distress, but what made me irked was this:
why didnt they have flags hung up before the bombings?
why does it have to take an insane event like those attacks to motivate people to show appreciation for their country?
Kissing up to the public. Like they were afraid to NOT have a flag in their yard.
I discussed this with my older sister, an Air Force gal, and she just couldnt understand what I was getting at.
So not too long after, while shrooming and drinking beer, we burned a little decorative flag on the rooftop of this apartment. One kid was completely freaked out. I did it out of frustration.
Does anyone else see my point?

We're in so much debt that we aren't even independent anymore. China along with many other countries own a 3rd of us. I doubt they'll try to cash a 3rd of our country in, but they could. Plus, with TPP we're becoming even less independent. We have all the material and supplies to make our shit but instead we sell it to China so they can make it for us and sell it back.
Plus our country is lead by liars and manipulators and flat out dangerous people. Willfully ignorant blind nationalists have the gall to call themselves patriots when they get pissed off over a burning flag but do nothing when a grown ass man shoots a kid and gets away with it. A real patriot would stand against the corruption and the lies the disgusting destruction of other cultures that happens in this country. So burn a starred and striped red white and blue Chinese flag. For America. I hope radical change occurs, whether it's a peaceful revolution or complete destruction.

@stretchsquiggles you dont see how @lucem-ferre makes a valid point? your country is controlled by evil and a large portion of it owned by foreign interests.
mine isnt much better, but thats how it is.
singing about how much you love your country is all well and good, but maybe stop and think, "why are these people burning flags? it means so much to me. its a symbol, hy are these people trying to hurt that?"

Like I've always said; I'm grateful to be American, but I'm not proud to be American. Plus, chances are that flag you're waving is Chinese.
Also, I'm not going to burn your flag. That's just rude.
Also, I'm not disrespecting the troops. If I wanted to disrespect the troops I'd burn military badges. Not that you said that, but people seem to equate the two.
Also, waving a flag doesn't make you any more patriotic.
Also, why does it take a thread about burning the American flag to get our good buddy Lt.B to show up?

Ever watched the Flag Burning trick by Penn & Teller? It sums up my view on that shit perfectly. We live in a country that allows us to burn that flag, which is great. The parts that aren't great, however, are the exact reason you would want to burn that flag. Also, the thing doesn't mean shit at the end of the day. It's just a piece of cloth.

Hideous said
Flags are meaningless sheets of flame-resistant poly/nylon fabric used to divide people based on country of origin, skin color, and other factors that the individual has zero control over.
Actually, you are correct. but its not about the flag itself but what it represents.
some people believe that it represents a strong country that stands against oppression and works to better itself. which i suppose could be said for a large majority of the population of america.
countries born are forged in blood and violence, that is truth.
i watched the flag burning trick and that sums it up perfectly i think.

i see the points made, i really do. but it's all the same "i'm not happy with what (insert politician) is doing!!" kind of arguments. i'm not going to defend said politician's actions, but i am going to tell you that burning a flag on the fourth isn't going to do anything to fix it. if you truly are unhappy with the way way something is happening. DO something about it. get angry and make your voice heard. too many people sit around and complain but wont take the slightest bit of action to change what upsets them
i still do believe in our electoral system. get the offenders kicked out of the office the un-rightfully posses and get some one who is going to fix it in. if you truly believe that you can make a difference because your voice will be heard by others who feel the same way, and you may just be the inspiration they need to stand up them selves. be the revolution in your dreams. show that you truly believe in what you are saying, and your not just another fool going around saying "death to america" and burning flags because it makes you feel rebellious and cool.
be the change you want to see in the world and you too will feel proud to wave the flag you once burned out of frustration.
one drop of water can change the tide of the ocean.

A. It's been tried, can't change a nation when the slightest mention of politics can set people over the edge in a rant of ignorance.
B. I personally don't think the people of this country deserve to see a revolution. They kind of deserve to watch their country crumble.
Also, the fact that I'm willing to educate myself and educate others is my way of making a change. Burning the flag is my voice being heard. This country is disgusting. Me doing my part won't change the filth that rots in these boundaries. Honestly, the biggest problem with our government is corporations pulling the strings, not any elected official.
