I've been gradually learning Canadian slang and culture from my girlfriend. She's from BC. Her family lives on the island.
so tell us some of this slang you learned??
I'm betting BC and Quebec slang are worlds apart
Quebec slang is mostly French
Le Grand
Le Gros
Le petis
if someone is tall you call Le Grand if someone is fat you call them Le Gros if they are short its le Petit
and none of this is considered and insult
here's some words that are only in Quebec I mean even France has no clue what these worlds mean
Aweille =(ah-way) move your ass
Ayoille =(ah yoy) ouch
Steamé = (steam ay) hot dog
Dépanneur AKA depp like Johnny Depp =(dep an urrr) convinience store
I'm sure BC has it's own unique slang, but don't say Canadian slang because your girlfriend is from Vancouver that's Vancouver slang it's like saying people in Texas has the same slang as they do in Maine
actually I wanna hear more slang from everyone on here
especially @andrewtam @giggletits007 @captainnemo @quyen16j29659 and of course @s-dawg

When I said "slang" what I really meant is "typically Canadian expressions that people don't use in the states."
Shit like:
2-4s and Mickeys
Hacking darts
Going out for a rip
Basic shit. Nothing too crazy. I'll have to ask about more specific BC slang.
She's from island. She's never lived in Vancouver.
Obviously she's not gonna teach me Québécois slang as she doesn't live in Quebec. Although she might do an English teaching program there when she goes back to Canada. My friend back home speaks Québécois though. He's a US citizen but his mom is from Quebec. Incredibly sweet woman. He's kind of a prick, but funny.

Seems like an aweful lot of 'le's.
I admit to having no real conciousness of Canadian accents and word usage. The canadian cliche is still funny. I do know however that the U.S. is completely different within a 20 minute drive. Im sure many countries and places work the same way.
Yeah bitches, im that short gentleman mentioned in that youtube video.

LOL I have never heard of any of those expressions
2-4's = a case of 24 beers???
Yeah 2-4 is a case of beer.
2-6 is like a bottle of liquor.
Mickey is like a 350ml bottle
Going out for a rip is just cruising
Hacking darts means smoking cigarettes.

le is masculine la is feminin it's very important in french and confusing as fuck
for women it would be
la grande
la gros
la petis
but for women it is considered an insult
also neg or negre or negro is not racist here like they would be in America
a chair is masculine and a table is feminin a carpet is feminin the verbs will kill you they still get me confused
we dont call a quarter pounder a royal with cheese we just call it quart de livre avec fromage but we do use mayo on our fries or at mcdonalds we call la sauce macpoulet cause yes mayo is feminin but it would be le ketchup so a ketchup is a man and mayo is a woman
you can just imagine how confusing 60+ genders is to comprehend in Quebec

I lived in Kentucky for a year and a half. Near Fort Knox which was said to be a melting pot for multiple nationalities. My best friends were older Vietnamese men that spoke very very little english. The one thing that i most understood from them is that our slang was the most complicated thing to learn about the English language. It makes complete sense tho, EVERYONE has words that mean something else to them and their group. Some of these words carry over to friends of friends. Which brings me back to the 20 minute drive. My mother has had people in Florida call her out as from being from western PA for using the word 'yens' (instead of you all, you, or ya'll).

When a few Haitian boat people started attending my High School in Cocoa Beach, Florida, our giant wrestling champion taught them to scream obscenities every time they hit a ball with a bat. Thanks to that wicked son of a party clown (true story) "FUCK" was the first English word they embraced. Good times.

We had to show up 15 mins before our shift to wait for 5 mins before punch in to actually 'punch in'. Then we would run to our areas and get a run down of previous shift issues. During our pre-punch in one day the Vietnamese that spoke better English told us a story of being back in Vietnam about a prior job where he had to do the same thing. He couldnt figure out the correct word for the gathering prior punch in. I suggested the words 'circle jerk' Tuan exclaimed loudly with much excitement 'YES! LIKE A CIRCLE JERK!'. Everyone laughed till punch in time. Slang is a bitch...
