Do you really think you know her? I live with her and her ideas change and grow daily with new information. What she posts is generally something she learned recently. That does not mean she will ultimately incorporate that into her character, but it is what is going through her mind at the time and she posts it uncensored.
And I would definitely not call her an idiot. You may not think she is that smart, but all of academia would disagree with you. Perfect GPA. Never makes less than a perfect score in any course she takes without exception. That include scientific and liberal disciplines. She was the head of the Ethics bowl team in college so while you may not see what she says as ethical, again academia disagrees with you. Like me, she was a member of Mensa. And while IQ tests only really measure your ability to take IQ tests, it does show some level of intelligence. I scored 153 and she is over 20 points higher than me. That puts her at a level of the top 0.000029% of minds in the world. That does not sound like an idiot to me. That sounds like maybe you may not be able to understand exactly the message she is trying to convey or understand her reasoning for her saying it.

I think you may have a good point here. Especially with politics. It is such a divisive issue. I have seen many (even non-forum) conversations turn really ugly over politics between best friends. And many of the issues are for the same thing but disagreements about the methods to bring about those things.
I think I may join you @bayareashaman and stop posting in this thread. It sours peoples perception of others and prevents true learning of what someone is really trying to say because it is difficult to relay any good context or inflection for intent in dry text on a screen.

At least I qualified it with "may". LOL
One way to think about this is that she did not get as smart as she is by keeping ideas to herself. She puts them out there so more than just her mind can think about them. Even when she believes something people are saying and finds that an "echo chamber" is in place where it's just people agreeing with each other, contrary info is presented to break the "echo" so that people can look at what other people may think about something. Even strong held beliefs of hers are questioned by her to enable mental growth. Again, most people argue about process and method and may not see that they are all after the same end result.

Would it have changed your reaction or anybody else's reaction if I was here before it was too late? No. I know, because I was perfectly aware of the reaction I was going to get. @lucem-ferre , I was trying to make a point that the term idiot would be considered by many to be unwarranted. And if she had the time or money, she would have been able to stay a student for life. She made the time and sacrificed the money to do that. She did really well with what she had to work with, I think.
And she would completely agree with you. She does not see herself as smarter than anyone else. It is I who does since I see her as quite a bit smarter than me.
And about the back peddling ... point taken. I will let her do her own defending if she so chooses from now on.
