far as im aware, building magnetic bottles that are actually practical requires precision on a level that makes dna splicing look like legos.  in other words, it aint happenin without a few more associated breakthroughs.  not that ive been keepin up with my scientific literature; i didnt even read the linked article above. 

weve long known that it is possible.  the earth itself is basicly an inverted magnetic bottle.

According to the article the main obstacle to generating fusion power is generating plasma through extremely high heat. Beyond the magnetic cage, additional, necessary breakthroughs involve finding ways to make this a COST-EFFECTIVE, viable form of energy production. The mechanics are just amazing, though, as the super hot plasma in the cage doesn't touch the containment chamber walls because it's "...manipulated by strong magnetic fields within the device that are generated by superconducting magnetic coils that have been cooled to near-absolute zero." Pretty sci-fi.
