So i set out to switch over my NY cell number to a local one, and it was perfect timing; my cell simply wouldn't turn on. It just gave up. Neither my home or car charger did jack shit. So i ended up buying a whole new phone too... then i changed our address, updated my resume, gave the landlord some of those Phantom Cookies for letting me use his printer, spent the evening tinkering around in my new garage, got up this morning, took care of the kids, drove to my very first attempt at getting a job and...
Got the job. On the spot.
Its FT, seasonal until February (fine with me), and starts at $9. $10 quickly, they told me.
I dont have the strongest resume, but its nothing if not interesting. The ladies that interviewed me seemed quite impressed. I did a mouth drug test, passed, and am set for orientation at 7:00 am Thursday. Just like that.
Spent the day driving to the nearest big shopping area and got new boots.
Ill be processing beet sugar. Not the fanciest gig, but i hope it shows the haters back.home that things arent the same everywhere.

So while waiting for.my Colorado photo ID to arrive (it still hasnt), my staffer at the dispensary figured out that I could use my temporary CO license as long as i had other photo id. I used my NY voided license.
So my wife and kids and I went.to Denver yesterday and in less thsn two hours, i have my Marijuana Enforcement Division (love that title) license number.
The problem is in waiting on background checks and photo badge from them, which takes two weeks to get in the mail. I have the job, and am doing some Webinars Tuesday, but cant start work until that badge arrives.
The wife started subbing today. So thats good stuff. Local school.didnt even have an art program this half due to no art teachers soooo... time for her to step.in hopefully in January. We are excited.
But back to the herb.... for a support badge, there is an FBI background check, although not as extensive as the Key badge (which is also expensive.. my support one costed $150). You have to have had no charges for the past ten years, although thst doesnt disqualify you. I had that second degree assault in 2005 where i spent the weekend locked up before getting bailed. The case was dropped and i didnt want to waste any more time with this process, because i had to get a Certificate of Disposition or something that shows the arrest. I called NY clerk and she said that the case is SEALED. I asked her twice if that meant that my job couldnt see it, she said they cannot. So im slightly worried about it anyway.. its not expunged but its stil there. Like i dont care at all that anyone knows my arrest, i just didnt want to go through having to.obtain the papers, as ive been waiting too long for this thing anyway.
Everyone i talk to says not to worry... what yall think?
Today is their grand.opening at noon, a ribbon cutting. Im going to walk my girls down there to show support.

You're straight. If it's "sealed" no one can look at it. I have to imagine for background checks, even though your current employmer is probably more strict about it than other places, they're only going to look for what is still readily public knowledge on your record for the past so many years or what convictions you have. Sure I suppose they can dig deeper, but that costs more money so I would say it's unlikely.

Okay, so I have the pleasure of typing this on my brand new Samsung laptop. Just purchased a few hours ago. During a tornado.
Let me back up...
I still have no received my Marijuana badge (although I did receive both my Colorado driver's license and my new bank card), but I was to come in to my dispensary today to get set up for my internet training seminar, called a "Webinar".
The webinar is to begin tomorrow at 10:00 am. It takes over and hour and a half, and has to have strong internet connection, thus the new laptop.
So the skies in Colorado are so goddamned sunny and clear all the time man. The "300 sunny days out of 365" saying seems to be very on the anus so far. It's bewildering to us. We came from an area in upstate New York that is literally almost as cloudy annually as Seattle. Tons of depression, nasty drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, domestic violence, suicide, etc... anyway, my wife got home from her second day of working substitute teaching, and I set off for the dispensary as planned. It's only like a six minute walk from our house, and I always walk, but today the sky looked rather... ominous.
So I took the Ford.
I talked to the two understaffed guys working, who are cool as hell. I did some paperwork, and talked with the senior fella for awhile, and even dealt with customers a bit. I'm not legally allowed to even be behind that counter until I receive the badge, but it was allowed for the time being.
Shit was fascinating. They have everything. Even THC patches for your epidermis. And it turns out that it's not just a medical facility... it's also...
RECREATIONAL!!!
So all kinds of customers came in. Rednecks, young Mexicans, old ladies that hadn't smoked in thirty years. Fucking awesome ya'll. I have done so many occupations in my day, but never retail, so it's a bit nerve-wracking to me to deal with customers directly, but I'm going to trick my brain into thinking it's exciting more than anxiety-inducing. I had fun with the blue-collar type customers, as they seemed to want to talk to me more than my 21 year-old youngin' co-worker. He has been busting his ass though. As I said, they're understaffed. The reason is that, as I've explained, so much red tape has to be done to actually get the license for the gig, and then actually start, is insane. But I understand completely why it's regulated so harshly. It's on par with casino regulation, I was told. More so, in my opinion.
I am not a toker, I've said many times. But I may start just to be able to relate more about the many different strains and edibles, patches and tinctures, gummies and vapes. I already know a lot about Indica, hybrid, and Sativa. Shit, I grew shrooms for ten years, as I will surely tell my co-workers once we get more comfortable.
It's crazy, when I think about it. My very-high, frequently tripping self at ages 12-17-ish would not have believed this to be possible back then.
So yeah, then a tornado hit.
While I was working.
Of all the vehicles in the parking lot, mine was the one to get hit by a flying trash can. The attached convenience store got flooded and had to close. Our dispensary did not. No patches, paraphenalia, candy bars, employees, or money got harmed. I stuck around to observe and watch the process, then went home. My wife didn't answer my calls due to her phone getting shitty service, but the girls and her were okay. Man was I freaking out. The convenience store employee lady literally almost blew away before my very eyes in our shop's doorway.
But there was almost zero damage. It stopped. The Weather Channel said more tornadoes were coming. So we left. We live in a trailer for God's sake. Gotta be safe. Went to Wal-Mart because I wanted to get a laptop anyway. And it's 1000x safer. So we did. My oldest daughter, Lotus, smacked her head on the hard floor at one point and it was among the Top 3 Worst Sound's I'd Ever Heard. But she's doing swell! Hakuna matata.
We waited out the storm in Wal-Mart, came home, set up the new computer I'm currently typing on, and now the girls are asleep. Webinar tomorrow, then hopefully I get my badge and I can start the fucking thing.
And @luckynumbrxiii , as I was informed by my young compadre, we DO in fact, get employee discounts. So anyone that wants to come visit, hit me up. I already have more friends from back in NY, and even Phoenix, AZ and Fayettville, NC and Baltimore, MD lined up to come hang in the next few months.
