This might start an argument, but I want to make a few things clear:   I have no problem with religion if it helps you be a better person, but saying it is the ROOT of morality is ridiculous. I am going to give examples on why using Christianity, because I was raised Christian.   Yahweh told Abraham to murder his son, basically saying "if you loved me you'd do it". Later in the Old Testament he has a king sacrifice his daughter and does NOT intervene. According to the Old Testament if you rape a woman you marry her and everything is dandy. Yahweh ordered the complete annihilation of multiple cities. Every single man, woman, and Child. Yahweh sent down bears to maul children because they made fun of a prophet for being bald.   I could go all day with this shit.

God in the old testament was an entirely different entity than God in the new testament. God was wrathful, and harsh. He sent direct, strong, and often violent messages to those who flagrantly disregarded His teachings. Why? Because people are stupid. This  took a huge emotional toll on Him. God wasnt killing or punishing people because He wanted to. God loves all creation, we're His children. That's why God sent us Jesus. Jesus taught us once and for all the righteous path, he laid it all out. Since then, God has been pretty hands-off, because now He doesn't need to send us burning bushes, great floods, or raining fire. Because we know what's what. It's in our hands now.

But the bible says God doesn't change. It also says that not a single tilde or letter should be changed from the Old Testament. That means we should still stone people to death for disrespecting their parents or working on the sabbath. I wish the Old Testament could have just been lost in history to be honest lol. What is MOST annoying (and from what you have said this obviously isn't you) is how these hyper conservative Christians can be so unchristlike. Jesus was basically a hippy.

quick disclaimer, I never said morality is based in religion. I said it is a framework for good moral behavior. If you don't believe in any sort of religion, that's A ok with me. People are plenty capable of good on their own.

But, I've lived  within 15 miles of Ft. Campbell my whole life and those female soldiers who act tough as nails in a civilians face then change their tune when they're bent over a bunk in the barracks with a different battle buddy every night...

the barracks rats, sure, but id say thats only around one in five, if that high.

Then we fully agree. Don't be a dick, and if you are a dick, don't use your (or someone else's) religion to justify it.

My hometown's school system passed a new rule that during Christmas the schools are supposed to decorate for all religions. I'm excited to see how they decorate for the Satanists. Oh wait, religious equality but that one gets quietly overlooked. Lol

@LTB yeah but religion has ALOT of blood on it's hands. I do agree that a religion does set forth, "rules" for lack of a better word, to follow, which in turn yes, shapes a young adult into a decent, good natured human being.

However, fast forward to OUR times. Religion has become a political tool, priests have been caught child molesting, etc. My point being is that religion's reputation has been dealt serious blows. Whatever religion, it doesn't matter because somehow one religion's views are all muddled in with the others. People destroyed religion. Whether God exists or not, the longer he goes without being present, the more out of hand everything will continue to get. Naturally these days people won't fear something that doesn't respond.

I am not religious, but it pisses me off when people get offended by Christmas decorations. Christmas is a NATIONAL holiday, and it is more of a secular holiday than a religious one these days anyway. Santa clause is not offending you, and if he is, you're the dick.

I still tell people Merry Christmas.

God didn't change. He changed his tactics. A bigger pet peeve for me than hypocritical bible thumpers, is literalists who say what you said in bolded. No shit we shouldn't do that, not every word of the bible is meant to be literally applied to life. (That wasnt a shot at you man). And jesus didnt down LSD, demand handouts, or engage in freeloving of any sort. I resent the notion that he was a hedonistic hippy.

while at the same time, the churchies are complaining about santa and candy canes, and bitching about turning their holy day into a holiday.

thats just for starters,  i could go on about xmas, but i dont think i should.

A long time ago at school I was told to turn a Deicide shirt inside out because it was offending some Christians who had complained about it. Wasn't my intention upon wearing it, but whatever. I tried that freedom of religion statement and was told that Satanism was not "Socially Acceptable." Go figure.

And Obama can shove his "Holiday tree" up his fugly wife's ass.

One more feminist story: did you hear Sarah Palin's theory of the missing airplane? Appearantly it flew too high and got stuck in heaven. Words of our could've been president.

Oh he responds alright, hold a lighter to your balls and you'll see what's coming. Lol. And all that sounds like some hoe shit that humans did. Not religion. Not God. People. The evil's of man are why the bible teaches what it is does. And i believe i totally fucking slayed the "religion is the cause of all wars" in another thread a while ago.

I don't see a bolded part.

About the Jesus part, I meant in the sense that he was FOR helping people, and helping people better themselves. Many conservatives (this goes back to the capitalism thing you mentioned) disregard many of Christ's teachings.

I think ink it is stupid how Paul's letters are considered to be the word of God, too.

God spoke to Paul, Paul conveyed the messages. Call it paraphrasing. And I meant to bold the part where you talk about stoning shithead kids and those who work on Sundays. My bad

I can one up that, I had to take off an anti-nazi shirt because it drew attention to the swastika. It was a swastika in a red circle with a slash through it like no smoking signs. I was ready to be suspended for that shit, but I punked out in the end.

Christmas is very much an economical holiday. A very small percentage of people still see it as anything religious. Ask a group of kids who Christmas was made for and 3/4 of them will say Santa Claus. Everything the government honors as a holiday has come from a religious reference but has been blurred to be used as a way to make money. I can't bitch that they didn't come up with a pretty genius idea. I just called a christmas tree a christmas tree since I could speak. I hate change!

Ahhhh ok, I'm pretty sure those were laws given to the Israelites though. Like, that was what you were SUPPOSED to do. I know parts of the bible aren't literal, but I think those parts were meant to be. Which reminds me, if everyone's interpretation of the bible is different, who is right?

I am glad we are able to have these discussions without getting pissed at each other. And I want you to know ahead of time I do not mean anything personally, I am not trying to attack you, just pointing out things I have noticed.

Also, I think religious organizations and buildings over a certain size or income level should be taxed. I would say ALL, but that would hinder the start of new organizations and the building of new places of worship and I feel that is against freedom of religion.

There's no Satan. (I can't say shit about God, I'm an agnostic-pantheist, but Satan? Unless God's an evil fuck, there's no way.)

I disagree with a lot of what LTB's saying at the moment, but I'm about six bourbon-on-the-rocks deep right now, so I'll get to that when I'm a touch more on the sober side.

Which leads me to my next point: Scruffy doesn't like beer? I take back anything I said about us being clones.
