Currently eating salad on lunch break, trying to find some childcare for August. There is like none in this area. Quite stressful, really.
New place we had to move into doesnt allow any traces of cannabis so I am usually vaping my face off when I'm there. To smoke bud I have to go for little dog walks.

Not a bad thing, It's extra exercise.
I'm finally starting to work out daily again and feel hope for life. I've started working out to youtube gaming vids.

Alright fam, its been a week and there has only been slight progress. It was a long week of waiting for shit to come thru the mail but i believe the pay off was worth it.
I didnt want to waste another piece of wood so i left this one in the machine for the whole week so i didnt have to go thru the process of trying to line everything back up perfectly. So i didnt get to play with anything else.
Deal is i started with this
Did some altering, some drinking and scratching my head, and got this.
From there it was the programming part. Not too difficult here, just figuring speeds, feeds, depths and dimensions. Ended up with this.
From there it was load it into the machine, cross your fingers, have more beers, and hope for the best. That lead to one of these.
Final dimensions size is 21.5 wide by 30.5 tall. Leading to almost 9x actual playing card size.
Def needs a lot of tweaking but im having fun and learning some stuff.
Not a terrible first attempt by any means.
Glass etcher is still in the mail. Cheapest one i found was from AUS. They must still be working on the kangaroo express system cause its seeming like forever. The window for delivery is give or take a week. Holy Shit Radam, kick someone's ass for me bro.

Im sure many of you have seen one of these. But how about one of these?
Done on plexiglass.
Not too bad for a first attempt.
Program needs some work, but im digging it.
When you say program, did you code the application yourself?
I just competed in a coding contest on Saturday. Made 6th place in the nation, 137th place in the world. It was fun but the programming challenge was a bit flawed. It was a 4 part challenge and in the 3rd part there was a 2D data set mapping onto a supposed mobius topology but the creators of the challenge actually mis-described it. It was really a skewed torus, not a mobius. That whole issue set me back about an hour trying to figure out why my code did not complete the 8 test cases presented for verification. Not that it changed anything really because every other person in the world had the same issue. I just wish that the topology definition was correct from the onset.
I code full time for work. I code outside of work. I code just for fun. In fact, like in previous years, I will most likely be coding at the Gathering during the day.
...
Yeah, I know... I need to "Gather Harder". I think I've heard people say I am Gathering wrong.

That's cool as fuck man.
What's the process to make that?

Our shop makes molds that make plastic bottles.
In a standard gallon there are more than 20 different parts per mold, this is half of one. Minus the top block and tooling. Ill have to take more pictures tomorrow. Each cavity has water flowing thru it to keep it cool while the molten plastic is being 'blown' into it. The brass looking pieces are hardened copper, called berillium copper, it is precision cut and drilled to fit the precision cut and drilled pockets. Tolerences of +.002 of an inch are scrapped.
In programming there are a lot of letter/number combinations involved. Each one having a different effect. Im sure you have this same issue.
To make it sound simple i can hand code varying size squares and circles of different materials to .0005 of an inch. If given all the points i can hand program anything. A lot of the problem is remembering speeds and feets for each tool in a specific material. Aluminum doesnt cut the same as steel with the same tool.
There is a code that will change an xy axis to an xz axis, so a forward facing arc will then cut downwards (depth). Each rib or change in contour equals another set of xyz coordinates. Its easier for the office to program all of this instead of adding a hundred other points to a print. There is a 'drawing' mode in the machines where you load up a program, it will draw it out and you can see what the part will look like. It wont tell you whether your going to hit the vice, the table, or implode the world. Programming errors can lead to the loss of a $20 tool, a $50 piece of material, or $100,000+ machine. I was Lead Machinist for 3 years and found the machines did many things they werent designed to do. I made them do what i wanted, not what they should do. Ill have to take pictures of this stuff too whenever we get around to it again. Some of it seems very basic but it has made our company a boatload of money faster. None of which ive seen.
To do my stuff at home. This process is pretty simple but the free program is flawed. Its set to simplify the cutting process. Not much in the way of altering preferences. You have to be able to read the spat out code to decipher it and know what and where to change. Im learning a different cad/cam software that will allow me to do more things with a simple minded machine.
