There's a fuck ton of songs that "sound happy but have depressing lyrics", like, so many there's practically no subversion anymore, but even still I like that shit. 

This is the king of it though.

Though this is my favorite track (alongside ghost for being the saddest fucking thing in the world), no individual song off the album (In the Aeroplane Over the Sea) could possibly display how amazing it is, but like, holy shit, I sat down to give it a try after being reminded of all the fuckin memes, and I just sat there glued, I've always loved melancholy music, and this, when you realize what it's about, manages to be even more melancholy despite the upbeat sound. 

There's also the dissonant and experimental sounds that come in occasionally, that just top it off. Just that bit of beautiful discomfort that tops it off, almost as a signal that something isn't right. 

The instrumentation is perfect, the lyrics are perfect, and I love this fucker's voice.

I'm the 8 billionth person to say this, but this album is a straight 10/10

It's not even that long, so go listen to it, now, stop whatever you're doing and peep that shit.
