thoughts?

should it be heaven & hell again, with 2 projects? should Mike Clark produce it this time around? should it be the wraith again? Will J say “the carnival’s a higher power”?

i feel like it might not be any of those but I’m all for the first 2 of those..

at the end of the day, I feel they definitely need to love the project as much as they loved shangri la.

J has already said it will end with Heaven and Hell. We don’t know anything beyond that in terms of if it will be a 2-parter like before or any other details.

Since Mike E Clark did not produce the 6th on the first deck, I feel like he absolutely should be the one to do it this time around. I feel like their last few Joker Cards have been kind of a mess that never really felt like there was an actual theme or a real “character” other than the name of the album and a face on the artwork. Feels like the character used to mean more.

And the use of a hodgepodge of producers has not lead to their best work. Even if it’s not MEC, I think they should stick with one producer for it and have it be one of their better ones like Mike P, Kuma, or Seven. And yeah, J and Shaggy need to really put some thought into it and work together on it. They also need help with hooks, it’s as though they forgot how to have a good hook which used to not be a problem. Not having Legs Diamond, Syn, or even Young Wicked has hurt them in that department.

I’d like to see at least a couple Mike Clark tracks.. generally speaking I feel it’s easier to make a good project when you can pick & choose the producers and arent stuck with just one.. it’d be cool if they worked with a bunch of producers who they’ve worked with throughout their career, as a celebration of sorts of their history!

I definitely disagree with that. At least for my taste, their Joker Cards that have multiple producers are their weakest. Your comment about how it’d be cool if they worked with a bunch of producers they worked with throughout their career – they have already been doing that for years.

Mike P, Kuma, Seven, Shaggy The Airhead, and Devereaux have all been contributors to their past few as a collective. There was also Str8Jacket and Young Wicked, but, both are gone and wouldn’t be welcomed back. Mike Clark has produced a couple of tracks for them on EPs as of late, but, nothing more than that and I’d love for him to take the reigns again. I don’t think it’s coincidence that a lot of us think Bang Pow Boom and Mighty Death Pop are the best of the 2nd deck.

good point.. there’s only a few they havent worked with in a while like: chuck miller, fritz, esham..

eh.. it wasnt just the jokers cards, their music was better in general during that period of time.. mike clark def deserves a lot of credit for that stuff but I dont think the newer albums would be any better really, with just one producer.. they’d probably be worse..

He was one of several people (Kuma, Seven, Mike P, Str8Jacket, Devereaux) that worked on FFF. I think maybe Str8 was in kind of an “executive producer” role where he was there and possibly engineered on tracks he didn’t actually make the beats for, but no, he did not make all the beats and it was a group effort as all of them have been post-Mighty Death Pop.

J and Shaggs should change their sound again or just retire. They fell off around The Mighty Death Pop unfortunately.

everyone seems to love death pop but i fucking hate the beats on that record, it’s so fucking corny. like the beat to “the mighty death pop”, and the chorus. dear god pure fucking cringe. the blasta, where’s god, skreem, ghetto rainbows, juggalo juice, daisies, and their literal worst song ever chris benoit are all SO terrible.
I think after Tempest (which a lot of people hate, but i love) ICP has totally lost the plot. Bang Pow Boom is when they started going downhill imo. BPB is like a pale imitation of real joker’s cards. It’s also when Mike E Clark started making super shitty beats. Mike E Clark hasn’t made a good ICP beat since the Tempest. Dude can’t seem to make a dark beat anymore it’s all corny poppy gay shit.

BPB and Death Pop are the ones from the 2nd deck i literally never listen to because they’re garbage and Mike E Clark’s beats on there are fucking trash lmao.
I want a whole record produced by Kuma, that dude makes some killer beats.

Any thoughts on that little teaser video they dropped (which they seem to have deleted again, btw)?

From the translations of that short video it looks like it might be about some kind of purgatory, right? Those who don’t get to meet The Wraith are stuck in (or with) The Naught or whatever. I like this concept because it makes sense with my interpretation of how the first and the second 6 differ thematically. The first set is about how you treat others – are you a good guy or a bad guy? For that you will go to heaven or hell, respectively. The second set is about how you treat yourself. MDP is about gambling with your life by being reckless, MML about depressed ppl (without god) or healed ppl (who found faith), FFF demands you stand up for yourself, YYB is about addiction. The outlier is BPB but even that is kind of on brand since the 1st one always seems to be the odd one out. Same with COC and in both cases because the concept of the jokers cards (or the decision to do a 2nd deck of them) didn’t exist yet.
But people who only treat themselves shitty are neither good nor bad. They can be bad of course, but often genuinely nice people throw away their own lives. So these people don’t deserve hell, but they also don’t get to go to heaven. They don’t meet the wraith because they have been too passive ( “no belief” and “not enduring”), they end up in nothingness.
It would be a nice addition to the lore, the dark carnival cosmology or whatever, and it could loop back around to BPB, since BPB cleans up when purgatory gets overcrowded. Although this would mean some retconning as to who ends up in there and they’d need to ditch the idea of making the 6th about heaven/hell again.
