Lil’ Shank & Cell Block: Fear Or Respect (???? [2023]) | El Presidente (DJ Honda & Jeru The Damaja) |
Released on Graveyard Greats Vol. 2. Not sure about the original year though. The album inlay reads:
“This track was created for the scrapped Rydas solo records. You read that right – Rydas solo records. And this track is one of, if not the only, unreleased track from that era featuring two of the most thugged out G’s to do the damn thang, Lil Shank and Cellblock.”
The other Rydas solo tracks that got released were from 2000 and 2001. I could imagine this being from the Lil Shank project, 2 other songs of which got released as well. However the very last line of the song is “…now who wanna step to 7 real [n-bomb]”. Which makes me think this could have been from the Check Your Shit In Bitch era with Esham and ABK. So 2004? Not sure when it was officially decided that E and ABK would become members, though. Could have been earlier, I guess. Or maybe other members were considered around 2001?

Wouldn’t the N-word usage be before Check Yo Shit In like Dumpin or Ryden Dirtay eras?
Maybe. I don’t know when exactly they stopped. But I also think it seems more plausible for the song to be from around 2001, i.e. when the other solo songs were created. Especially since it says “unreleased track from that era“. It’s just curious that he speaks of 7 Rydas already. Maybe Esham was already being considered, since around that time he was also supposed to be in Dark Lotus? When exactly did Myzery leave? Right after Dumpin’ got out or was he still hanging around when they worked on the solo tracks? At which point was ABK actually considered part of Psychopathic? He was already featured on Freek Show in 2000 on the track with Three 6. I have no idea, I’m not too good with the details of the history. Weren’t the solo records worked on between Dumpin’ and and Ryden Dirtay? On Ryden they are down to only 5, tho. Maybe somebody has some better insights.
Edit:
Found this. He talks about the track a tiny bit here, around the 5 minute mark:
He says “this from my homie Lil Shank’ shit”. So I think we can safely assume it’s from 2001. Which really makes me wonder who the other 2 Rydas would have been back then. I couldn’t find any of the Graveyard Greats 2 songs uploaded to Youtube yet, but the line can be heard here at around 38 seconds:

There’s an unreleased song on the new Blaze called “Giants” that’s him and Lavel and was supposed to be on Lavel’s scrapped Psy solo project. Blaze says it was recorded during the time they did “Look Out” and “Shotgun”. So this must have been around 2004. Blaze says the N-word in the chorus. Presumably at least, but I don’t know what else they would have censored. It goes:
Lavel: What the fuck you lookin at? You never seen a giant king! About 300 pounds!
Blaze: Biggest [n-word] on the scene!
Edit:
here they are performing the song live at the gathering 2005 (song starts at 13:40):

My copy of “Graveyard Greats” came in today.. man, you can tell “never enough” is an old track cuz it’s so damn likeable.. definitely a highlight. that “act like a nigga” on the rydas track sounds crazy.. no wonder they never dropped that one lol.. not sure why “you aint thug” isnt just called “Days of my neighborhood OG”, when it’s the same lyrics.. “giants” is another highlight.
I like the “OG egg plantz” more than the album version, it’s kinda dark.. “OG escape artist” beat fits the song but gets kinda boring, a screeching violin on the hook couldve been dope.. “mamma I aint changed OG” wouldve been perfect for this project, I couldve sworn the original single was different from the deluxe g version..
pretty cool project.. a few fresh uncredited fritz beats lol.. I’m a big fan of the FF/CC compilations. Not enough artist give those kind of fan service compilation, comprised of cut & rarer material.. so yeah, I like tracks 1, 4 & 12 the best.

They should’ve just rerecorded or did something other than censor it.

Yeah, for sure. They say it so much that the song sounds like one of those unlistenable radio edits now. To be honest, even though I don’t need to hear a white rapper shout “if you act like a nigga, you get smacked like a nigga”, I still wish they wouldn’t censor their old songs (except for live performances). It’s cringey and uncomfortable, but it’s history. Now it feels like the track is still partially unreleased.
