So I had to reregister because I can't get into my old account and uh I kinda had to come back to say this.
I have been on blahzay's dick like a mother fucker since hearing her song. I think I'm one of her biggest fans in the fam right now and that's cool or whatever but I became really fixated on her album since getting home and I just barely remembered that big hoodoo released an album so I listened to it.
HOLY FUCK.
I've always been kinda meh on him. At first I thought he was boring and unoriginal and just kinda flat. I saw him live while tripping on robo and I thought his sound improved and I heard him in a new way that I liked a little so I kept a few of his songs on my phone but not really hype on it.
When runnin from my magic or whatever was released on the sampler last year I was like eh I'm good on the new hoodoo. It's gonna be more of the same.
BUT HOLY SHIT WAS I WRONG
This album is fire as fuck.
It hits hard.
And there's a lot of energy.
And boom boom piggy is fucking dooooooooope.
Honestly, there isn't a song on here that I don't feel to some degree.
With this, all of the dope ICP releases recently, and the new chick. I'm a big fan of what psychopathic is doing and this is the first time since the early 2000s when I was down with everything the label was putting out. Fuck I love this shit.

been bumpin asylum heavy for several days now. overall thoughts. VERY DOPE record. my only complaints and i hate to even say it cuz i do dig amb...but Bonez shit was super whack on this album. especially his verse on the monster squad track....that shit was comically bad..sounded like it was written in 5 mins. Iv seen pain is super dope but Hoodoo talking and yelling shit during the chorus is super annoying and stupid after the first listen, almost ruined a very very freshh chorus. Also its been said before but i wish he had more Hoodoo type tracks on there. Thats just me nitpicking a bit though. albums very fresh
solid 8.5/10 album

finally gettin to asylum. saved it for last. unless you count doctor savage, who ocj insists is the amerikain overdose of the current day. im skeptical, but thats another topic.
a long time ago i said i wasnt gonna make a decision about hoodoo til his second album. since then, ive seen him live a couple times, and he won me over as a fan that way, but i was still lookin close to see how he did this time around.
its right. holds up to crystal skull, surpasses in lots of ways. the really good stuff is really good, the rest is decent. i can tell im not gonna get bored with it immediately.
not everything is my shit, but its probably somebodys shit, so the songs i dig carry it more.
im a bit bigger of a fan of crystal skull than the average juggalo, so time will tell if this tops it, but its got my attention.
random note: tha hav knots is gonna make hoodoo look real good.
slightly related random note #2: i feel like bones junior could maybe write a great verse if his vocabulary included more than ninety words. not hatin. nor makin a joke. think he needs to read more.
anyway, good fuckin album, hoodoo.

A whole lotta motha fuckin truth about the new hoodoo albumThe only thing I have to add is that it's clearly evident that he had a lot more artistic control on this release which (imo) shined
definitely lol Crystal Skull was cool but a lot of it felt like Violent J songs just rapped by someone else...like I respect J's creative control on projects once in awhile as long as its a good balance between who that artist is and what his vision for them/their character is...some of the songs on Crystal Skull fell flat or were just awkward to listen to because it was fairly obvious it wasn't the kind of music Hoodoo wanted to make (i.e. Happily Ever After and a few others)...as opposed to Asylum which sounds like he's in his fuckin zone
my least favorite songs are Psycho Love and Gogetem which I still listen to just not as much as the rest of the album
love the reggae vibes on The Passage as well and the voicemail outro...its simple but effective IMO

happily ever after is a jam. not a hit single jammy jam, but a good song that i like a lot.
i never, ever bought that 'violent j writes everything' line. kids idea of how to make music.
seriously, if hoodoo didnt want the song on his album, hed have said 'i dont want that song on my album'. probably wouldnt have bothered to record it.
do yall really think j just dictates shit like that? anybody with a brain would dip in minutes, and hoodoos got a brain.

I do not think Happily Ever After was Hoodoo's idea lol (I do like the weird chants on the chorus but that's about it)...he sounded half asleep on the verses...you can't deny he sounds much more comfortable and natural on Asylum than he did on a lot of Crystal Skull
also I'm pretty sure J actually has writing credits on the majority of the Crystal Skull songs...so yes its a fact that he adds quite a bit
I never claimed that he WROTE THE ENTIRE THING just that he adds a lot of the creative/character/storytelling work because he knows what works for juggalos...they even said Hoodoo basically recorded Asylum all at his crib on his own rather than working with a whole bunch of them...also why the production credits aren't your usual Psychopathic beat makers for the most part
I'm not throwing shade at J or claiming he dictates peoples shit but sometimes his influence is pretty obvious

Hands down the best disc I picked up at the Gathering. I could label Psycho Love as the only skippable song but the chorus has a 90's R&B sound I can appreciate. Solid release. I didn't stay for his set (wanna say I was at the black light party ...) but I'm looking forward to seeing anything from Asylum performed live.

Meh, not feeling it, just spun the album front to back. Like the first five tracks, but after that it fell off for me. I do like J's verse on Monster Squad though. Otherwise it's whatever. Generic IMO. Wish he spent more time on an "Asylum" theme. Much prefer Crystal Skull.

its a tad genericafied when compared to crystal skull, im with ya there. lil more conventional hip-hop. and yeah, on the whole, not quite as thematic, and thats a minor drawback.
i might end up decidin that i dig asylum more than crystal skull, but not right now, i dont think.
highlights: i bring death [jammy jam], boom boom piggy [fuckin art], shadows [almost like hoodoo does lotus]; all superior to most anything on the first lp. maniac medicine is kinda left field, but ill add that one.
lowlights: gogetem [although it gets better after hoodoo takes over]. calm down is too genericly conventional, itll probably be a skip track soon.
the rest is good stuff, or at least decent.
even though its overly long, i like the intro.

...Blasphemy...
But I guess I do agree he could have been... a lil bit... more thematic.
Too much and the albums whole vibe could be compromised.
... And genericafied! Pshh come on now
