Wish he spent more time on an "Asylum" theme.
Yeah, this ^^. I thought the intro was great, really sets the tone for the album. But yeah, after "The Yard", it does begin to lose a little of it's wickedness. I actually liked "Go get'em". But totally agree on "Calm Down", that song doesn't do much for me. Still, I dig Asylum, it's a step in the right direction for Hoodoo.

... And genericafied! Pshh come on now... just a tad... compared to crystal skull...
okay, ill cop to my sins. how many novenas to get square?
I gotta disagree...I think if anything Crystal Skull was a generic Psychopathic release...Asylum is different for them in a good way...if by generic you mean more Hip Hop oriented and less wicked shit than you may be right but I don't find that to be a bad thing at all...Hoodoo sounds more comfortable like this rather than trying to appeal to the juggalo sound/fanbase...and I think there's enough wicked shit on here to keep enough of those fans interested
Go Get Em and Psycho Bitch the weakest joints for me but otherwise I love it

fyi I didn't hate Crystal Skull at all lol...just felt like it could have been better...Asylum is a step in that direction and I can't wait to see where he goes with it
all of this is just my opinion though lol

Loved Crystal Skull, one of my favorite debut albums and one of the better more recent Psy releases. I always dug Hoodoo's gimmick, and there are some really dope tracks on there (Hexed, Give it Life, Darkside are particular standouts, and only really Spells feels kinda weak). I need to dig around the car and see if I can find my copy actually, few of my CDs are MIA right now.
I was super fucking hyped for Asylum, felt like ages since we heard anything new from Doe, and it seemed like it just wasn't ever gonna come out, too many delays ya know?
So now that it's finally out? Not sure if I prefer it over Crystal Skull, but album is really damn solid. Some of the best work I've seen outta Hoodoo is on here, and he definitely feels more comfortable than he did on Crystal Skull. Although sorta long, one of the better intro tracks from Psy, I actually let it run every now and then like I do with Abaddon. Asylum isn't the strongest title tracks, it feels sorta short, and I definitely prefer the ending of the track more than the majority of it. Runnin' From My Magic is more of what I expect and love from Hoodoo. I Bring Death, I'm not as big on as others seem to be, I like it well enough, but I do occasionally skip it. The Yard is one of the standouts here, nice wicked shit, very catchy chorus. Maniac Medicine is another very Hoodoo track that I am all over. After that the album does feel like it shifts to a more traditional hip hop album, with a handful of wicked tracks sprinkled in (like Monster Squad). I really wish we had a few more songs along the lines of Hexed, Darkside, The Raven, Runnin' From My Magic, The Yard, stuff that focuses on the wicked spellcasting shit. Shadows is another favorite off of here, I agree with whoever it was that said it has a bit of a Lotus feel to it. The Passage is a great closing track, nice feel good song, love the reggae influences on it, do wish the chorus was a little easier to make out, BLAC is great, but that accent does make it kinda hard to understand what exactly he's saying.
Overall I really dug the album, have spun it quite a few times since I got it the Friday it dropped (thank you reliable Amazon). Up there with some of the better Psy releases I think.

The Yard is pure awesomeness! But I dont fully understand what he's rapping in the chorus, can somebody help me out please?
this is what I got:
I keep a [...] bodies in my backyard
[...] of lames that try to act hard
so if you hatin then you better keep a bodyguard
cause there's still a whole lot of room in my graveyard
boogieman comin for you now you're horrified
try to bury you alive [...] hide
when I'm done with everyone [...] inside
then my name will forever be immortalized
... and I fucking hate wanting to sing along a song while I actually cant, lol

ah thanks homie. I have no idea why I didnt understand the pile of dead bodies at least, I understood something like "a pile of bit.... bodies?" and that made no sense. lol, whatever.
Many songs are really growing on me, but there are still a few that I'm not sure about. "Out my mind" and "Calm Down" for example. But Im gonna see, overall it's totally worth those 10 bucks.

Only song on the album I didn't like was maniac medication.
Maniac Medication? Maybe thats the same song with different names because of a false named rip...? The album I downloaded from amazon doesnt include a song called Maniac Medication. I bought it from german amazon though, but they wouldnt deliver different album versions, wouldnt they?
My tracklist goes like this:
1. My Illness
2. Asylum
3. Running From My Magic
4. I Bring Death
5. The Yard
6. Out My Mind
7. Boom Boom Piggy
8. Go Get Em
9. Calm Down
10. Monster Squad
11. Psycho Love
12. Shadows
13. I've Seen Pain
14. The Passage

I never fully listened to Crystal Skull. Only like four tracks.
Didn't grab me. It was like he was restrained, slowed-down. As the typical PSY introduction album goes, which is fine. I just sample tracks and await the actual artist expression album, aka "the sophomore slump"... which , in PSY's world, is usually the better one.
"Out My Mind" is definitely exceptional. Album has not disappointed me yet.
Big Hoodoo is like a manic mixture of Scarface, Craig Mack, a King Gordy that has Jiminy Cricket beside him, letting his conscience be his guide instead of bipolar disorder and crack cocaine.... and his own special blend of old an nu-school.
