I’d love MEC, but it’s true. Juggalos hated Bang Pow Boom and Death Pop.

Did they hate the beats, lyrics, or both?

I thought they were super dope both lyrically and beat wise.

The problem is they don’t sound dark. They sound very upbeat and poppish and ICP does’t sound spooky/angry, just standard rapping in their voices.

I think juggalos just want some spooky atmospheric effects and the clowns to put some mania and anger in their raps. That’s probably the issue, the vibe isn’t “wicked”.

I thought MDP was their best album since Hell’s Pit. It’s got plenty dark tracks. I thought Death Pop was the genre tho, the beats are poppy, catchy hooks, but wicked lyrics and undertones in the beats.

BPB was a very experimental album. I actually didn’t like most of it until I went to the tour and went back and listened to it.

I think one thing is that most of the tracks lately have been very fast, and high energy. The creepiest, darkest tracks were always the slower ones.

This^^^   i totally agree with all of that, just sucks that people are bad at expressing their feelings…not only are they confused themselves, but they confuse others in the process and give things a bad rep even tho they are great peices of art.

I always think its the ones who cant adapt to the evolution of times and have that stuck in the past state of mind…i know change can be hard/scary, but living in the past only makes you miserable

I wouldn’t mind a whole album of stuff like this:

It’s not about running around stabbing people, but it’s dark and the lyrics and delivery are creepy

I’d like to double-whoop because this is exactly what I want. Well, not exactly, I think this song should have sounded better. but the story telling is one of their greatest! It’s an absolutely wonderful parable of how superficial joy can take away your time until you’re a dead piece of shit who’s wondering where his life has been gone, basically, thats the ICP I wanna hear. Unfortunately the chorus sounds sloppy and I think they could have done better, but nonetheless. This is great piece of art, which can stand the test of time.

Wait one minute….joy takes away time? Having joy the whole time of your life is a bad thing? I thought thats what everyone strives to do in life.

ah, wait wait wait. My bad, it’s a translation issue (I’m no mothertongue speaker, I’m from Germany). I just thought “joy” would have meant “fun” or “amusement”, you know, some superficial kind of fun that’s good for the moment but disappears as soon as you think about it.

When I hear The Carousel I also think of many time I waste on things like facebook or whatever, everything without real value, what entertains you, but doesnt give you something that really lasts.
Ah, hard to explain, I guess?

You guys get it, ICP’s storytelling is really the reason I like them so much. The murder aspect is not an absolute requirement for their music. I appreciate the stories because they have a haunting aspect to them. They make you reflect on certain psychological issues in our world. The existential terror they can provoke is what makes them so interesting. The Dark Carnival gimmick wouldn’t be shit if they didn’t have songs that made you question the world and yourself.

You had it right with “superficial joy” like you said in your first post.  Like something that seems great on the surface and makes you feel happy, but can destroy you.  Such as drugs or other reckless behavior which can feel good at the time to that person.  A lot of them stay on that path (or carousel, in this case) and don’t get off of it until it’s too late.  Which would represent the people walking around as old zombies while their friends and family haven’t aged and didn’t even notice they were gone.

At the end of the last verse where he says “the carousel vanishes,” I think he means that the fun stuff is over and now you’re screwed for giving into the temptation.

no need for an excuse, bro! It was a mistake I made because I didnt know better, now I looked it up in a dictionary and gained some knowledge, so thank you for your checking – I didnt realize I expressed it wrong until now (and I’m always eager to improve my english skills). The most difficult thing (when learning another language) is not knowing correct words, but to use the right words in the right context. I struggle with that, as every language learner does, I guess, so I’m happy when I’m understood nonetheless!

You know why you are right, cuz no one is operating the carousel…the person who hops on, allowed it to be in “their” reality

Nah, you’re good.  And also, your English is a hell of a lot better than our German.

A lil tip about the english language, lots of words have different meanings depending on the region the person is from….also due to slang and evolution things keep changing their “current” meaning as opposed to the “words” original meaning…old over used example would be the words gay or fag.

Another thing, that i dont know what its called, would be something like………what comes to mind first when i say the word “ice cube”?    Would you think of water frozen in your freezer or would you think of the rapper from N.W.A/friday movies

Another less mature example is the word “fanny.”  In the States, it means “butt.”  In the UK, it means “vagina.”  Same language, though.
