Of note: my boy Parks Vallely (YouTube him) was there for that freestyle. He has been producing for Joe Budden mostly.

Dude is in the background.

I think they have a radio show together or something. Budden is an asshole but he does have some wisdom. Parks is pretty humble. He still hangs with the old squad when he is in town. My brother used to want to kill him cus he almost fucked his lady.

there's one episode where they have a special guest (don't remember the guys name right now)...dude's rocking a ICP shirt and they ask him about it at one point lol he plays it off and says it's just a cool shirt that caught his eye but was amusing nonetheless

I love Joe's podcast...at times it can get a bit boring and drag but when it's funny it's really funny

Esham had his chances at breaking through the industry. He just made really bad decisions. Number one was focusing on the local market instead of national for too many years. Another one was allowing violent j to manipulate esham into the Eminem beef. Eminem had nothing but love for esham. Eminem may have even got esham on a track back when he was blowing up outta respect and it would’ve put esham into a whole new level. I think proof would’ve definitely worked with esham. Then that beef led to the warped tour fight between natas and d12 which got them thrown from the tour. Word is esham and natas we’re getting a lot of crowd love before that happened. Then TVT records folded leaving esham without a label or distribution which led to him having no choice(in his opinion) but to sign with the “devil”(violent j). Things could’ve gone a whole lot different but what are you gonna do. Anyway esham is talented and has put out a shit ton of dope records and basically got fucked because he never caught that break.

Backs up what I was getting at. Some folks, no matter how talented or how hard they hustle, are still basically gambling every waking moment. It reminds me of Violent J's book, where he describes them getting harassed like crazy for touring with a big pink van for Tunnel of Love. It was one small misstep that caused them drama at the time, but now that they kept grinding and got lucky here and there, they can look back on it and laugh. Esham, on the contrary, may find it harder to laugh at his past struggles. I dunno, I dont know them personally beyond short chats.

Van Gogh and Edgar Allen Poe... artists that couldnt make a living doing what they were considered geniuses for post-mortem. It's a shame. I'll bet if they were appreciated in their own lifetimes, people would accuse them of selling out anyway hahahahah

"Edgar Allen ain't done shit real since 'Telltale Heart', bitch!"

"ICP ain't done shit real since 'Ol' Evil Eye', bitch!"

See a connection there? Ha!

Nobody said Twiztid made ICP, nobody said Twiztid 'saved' Psychopathic.

We said if it weren't for Twiztid Psychopathic would never have been what it was. That the benefit of ICP's investment was mutual. If that fact upsets you, then I have to assume you're just bitter towards Twiztid and don't want to give them the credit they deserve.

If you think talent has nothing to do with an artist's success you're delusional. BTW, talent is multifaceted. In terms of music, you can be a talented in several aspects but the biggest talent is knowing what sounds good, it's not technical. It's having vision. Plenty of musicians that have the technical talent, but no artistic vision to create something beyond a showcase of skill that often gets bland real quick.

There are plenty of artists that get the same push and have the same connections as the ones that do blow up but flop because the talent isn't there. Lil Pump was a great example of that.

Twiztid succeeded where others failed with the same opportunity because of their talent.

Esham arguably had more opportunity but didn't succeed as much because he actually doesn't have the same talent. Esham's gift was his ideas for his music. He had great ideas, but not the ability to pull it off. The people that came after did what he'd been trying his whole career to do but better. He has a short coming with being inconsistent. His lyrics are basic and juvenile and often times come off as forced and corny even in comparison to the worst of his contemporaries. He's too experimental for the casual listener but his lyrics were too surface level and fake deep for him to succeed in the area he was going for. So he's not even regarded with in the groups that devour the weird hip hop that built on his shortcomings like Danny Brown's Atrocity Exhibition or Earl Sweatshirt's whole catalog. And unlike ICP and Twiztid, Esham hit a wall and never really evolved as a rapper. He tried things as an artist that were brilliant, yet as a rapper he couldn't keep up. Take DMT Sessions, his most ambitious project yet he couldn't write shit to keep up. That whole goofy song about cookies where he says some of the most goofy lines as if he thinks they were ingenious was laughably bad.

So the point that talent doesn't mean success is true, while saying that success doesn't mean talent is blatantly false.

Also, I think it's cool that you know Parks, OMD. He's a member of the Joe Budden podcast.

I never said people who are successful have no talent.. I said likability can get you further..

Cardi B's likability far outweighs her talent.. of course she's good at rappin but her hottest lines are obvious, while eshams' take a few spins to even catch..

Yeah we used to talk shit on Parks. To me, his access to money and expensive equipment gave him the extra boost to create music. My brother and I didn't ever take music seriously as we were just fucking around on Fruity Loops and occasionally freestyling, and we werent particularly spiteful of him for his success, we just got annoyed by everyone talking about him all the time. Just teenager feelings. . . And the thing with my brother's girlfriend at the time is actually funny now in retrospect. But boy was he mad at the time. To the respect of Parks I wont divulge the whole story because it involves personal things and of course my brother isnt here to say his piece, but it really is funny now, looking back. But Parks is indeed a dope producer that has earned every bit of his success. I was just backing up my brother out of family support.

People that live in or around Elmira, Ny basically have to sell drugs or other shit to persevere. There arent many options for the economy there. I wasted so many years trying to thrive and always thought it was me who sucked. Turns out some areas you just cannot thrive. That's why I call the place Little Detroit. So glad I'm gone... the wife is visiting as we speak with the kids. I do miss the food and the fishing and the forests. But there isnt many ways to survive besides drug-funded music ventures. I'm too old for that.

Back to the subject..... hmmm.... I dont have anything else to say. I just am happy knowing that in some branch of the multiverse, ICP and Twiztid are still making music together. In one multiverse, Shaggy is fat and J is a woman. And they dont spray Faygo; they spray ground up pretzels.

Okay, then yeah I can agree with that. Drake being a better example.

Cardi B's likability far outweighs her talent.. of course she's good at rappin but her hottest lines are obvious, while eshams' take a few spins to even catch..

Depends on the Esham song, but most of his bars are very surface level actually. He also has some really bad ones "I added 2 and 2 then came up with 4" yuck.

The big reason why Cardi is appealing to her audience is that her bars are dumbed down. Like I explained to Iris in another thread, casual listeners, which are the biggest audience, like music that they can just throw on. They don't particularly sit down and digest music the same way. They don't want something they need to sit with or dissect. They want something they don't have to think about. Creating commercial hits isn't easy or most people would be doing it.

I know people who say they like her because of her personality.. I dont think people necessarily want dumbed down music.. thats just generally what they receive and are used to.. much like this scene unimpressive rappers appeal to ninjas who dont know better.. I agree that theyre not lookin for somethin to "dissect".. I feel it's more-so the rhythm & catchyness that attracts the average listener..

Creating commercial hits isn't easy or most people would be doing it.

False.. it's easy to an extent.. the industry is a MACHINE that pushes who they want to, sure some people slip through their cracks but in this day & age that mostly happens because theyre extremely likable.. hits come from having eyes on you and a push.. so not just anyone can release an undeniable hit & it becomes a hit.. there's definitely skill involved in being a hit-maker but if you know music & its' history, familiarity goes a long way.. they deserve credit but not too much..

I feel like generally the only people who really understand lyricism are the fellow rappers who've studied it.. So anyone who is legitimately trying to be the best are only gonna be a "rappers rapper".. the appeal to that is very small cause most people who rap arent even interested in being the best or learning.. it's a dying art in this day & age.. thank god for battle rap helping push the art of lyricism forward & luckily growing exponentially as they did so.. and guess what, the likeable battlers are generally much bigger than the straight lyricist, still..
