The big reason why Cardi is appealing to her audience is that her bars are dumbed down. Like I explained to Iris in another thread, casual listeners, which are the biggest audience, like music that they can just throw on. They don't particularly sit down and digest music the same way. They don't want something they need to sit with or dissect. They want something they don't have to think about. Creating commercial hits isn't easy or most people would be doing it.

I know people who say they like her because of her personality.. I dont think people necessarily want dumbed down music.. thats just generally what they receive and are used to.. much like this scene unimpressive rappers appeal to ninjas who dont know better.. I agree that theyre not lookin for somethin to "dissect".. I feel it's more-so the rhythm & catchyness that attracts the average listener..

Yes, that's true. It's more that they don't care as long as it's catchy and dumber music is typically catchier. Dumber music is usually much more fun, too.

False.. it's easy to an extent.. the industry is a MACHINE that pushes who they want to, sure some people slip through their cracks but in this day & age that mostly happens because theyre extremely likable.. hits come from having eyes on you and a push.. so not just anyone can release an undeniable hit & it becomes a hit.. there's definitely skill involved in being a hit-maker but if you know music & its' history, familiarity goes a long way.. they deserve credit but not too much..

No. Not anymore. Lil Nas X being the most recent example. He came out of nowhere and made a hit. The controversy and Billy Ray Cyrus cosign definitely pushed it further, but it was already a hit prior and he was just a kid with a song and a computer. That's actually becoming more and more common.

On the opposite side of things, Lupe's Lasers is an example of somebody that can't do that. He definitely has his hits, he definitely is one of the most talented artists in the game IMO, but fucking lasers was meant to be an album of commercial hits and it fucking sucked because he sucks at making commercial hits. Just leave that shit to Uzi, we want that real rap shit from Lupe.

I feel like generally the only people who really understand lyricism are the fellow rappers who've studied it.. So anyone who is legitimately trying to be the best are only gonna be a "rappers rapper".. the appeal to that is very small cause most people who rap arent even interested in being the best or learning.. it's a dying art in this day & age.. thank god for battle rap helping push the art of lyricism forward & luckily growing exponentially as they did so.. and guess what, the likeable battlers are generally much bigger than the straight lyricist, still..

A lot of rappers that make dumbed down music actually do understand lyricism more than you think. Lil B and Spaceghostpurrp are big examples of that to me. Spaceghostpurrp admitted to simplifying his lyrics to fit the sound and aesthetic he was going for. Which, in away, may show a better understanding of lyricism than the rappidy rap dudes that have no aesthetic.

Even then, it's definitely not a dying art. RTJ is one of the biggest groups in the world, Kendrick is a huge superstar, Pusha T has bars for days. It's out there and thriving, people just like to focus on the soundcloud pop rap because hate is unfortunately stronger than love. This thread is a perfect example.

Im not convinced lil nas didnt have label support..

rappers love saying they used to be a lyricist but then switched it up.. There are so many levels of lyricism i know lil b isnt aware of all of 'em.. I'm a strong proponent of sacrificing lyricism for creativity to make great music.. I feel Em's kamikaze is a great example of too much lyricism and not enough "creativity" or aesthetic..

there are definitely spitters in the industry.. hell Wiz kalifas verse on that new song with that asian chick is well written.. Still, it isnt that impressive.. I more-so feel the new kids comin up rappin arent going towards lyricism..

Nope.

Lil Nas X was unsigned when he originally dropped that song.

He did all of the promotion that blew it up himself through memes which inspired the viral Tik Tok challenge and got it to chart.

Edit: XXXTentacion's Look At Me also blew up independently too.

XXX is crazy likable..

I havent heard any word of a label signing lil nas.. i may be wrong but if he's still portraying an image of being unsigned hes gotta be an industry plant.. you cant have the biggest song in the world and not get gobbled up by a label.. of course there are exceptions since more moneys made independently.. nowadays labels want to portray new artists with a grassroots image..

The dude accused of beating a pregnant lady? His music just spoke to troubled people which garnered him a cult following. His status as legend comes from how he completely changed his self destructive lifestyle around with in a year just to be killed before truly getting to see his impact and growth. Even then he's still fairly loathed. He is the face of mental health awareness in hip hop, even though plenty of artists like Joe Budden were about that long prior.

Columbia picked him up after that song blew up. I'm certain it was announced.

that accusation is a reason for people to dislike him.. likability is like a gift from god.. its just something some people have..

Here's the way I C everything cuzz...

dude first of all, i've been listening to alot of juggalo podcasts, and really no-one that i know of really understands ICP's music as much as Me and the rest of the mothaphuckkaz on tha faygo luvers forum...

i'm just tryin' 2 give ya'll propz cuz i love the way we analyze shit on this mother-Fucking forum ya'll! i've been on this Godeezzamn motha-Funkin'-Fuckin forum since day 1! so yeah we 'R alwayz gonna express ourselvez and our opinions on this Goddamn Muthaphuckin Forum! str8 the fucc up cuzz! faygoluvers forum got shit poppin' homie! from now until the end of the world Loc.

Esham judgement day 1 & 2 is a classic you can't fuck wit it., Dead Flowerz you can't fucc wit it, even Boomin Words From Hell you can't fuc wit it dog... those albums and that all of That RLP / Gothom inc. shit is dope as fuck...

now as far as Twiztid goes... i start to lose interest mid-way during the WICKED album, the video was cool, the album was cool, then next thing I know fool... it's 2012 and Twizitd are leaving the label, i was all about it, get your Money Twiztid! you have enough resources to start your own label!!! then what happened? two albums that had a couple good songs on a non-existent twiztid label., Then Majik Ninja Entertainment formed soon after and even after that I feel like there was still no beef or drama or whatever the hell u wanna call it for a couple years until the fucking Young Dickbreath(wicked) incident.

dude whatever, if that happened to you... and that fuck Fucked your neice while lying to you and your bro, you would probably not be happy about it, so i don't need to go into detail about the rest... but... Twizler announcing they signed him on New Years really fucked with jumpsteady and J so i understand the feeling of betrayal and disgust, dealing with an ex-homie who straight up lied, and lied again, and then lied some more until it was too much, that shit's fucked up!

As far as twiztid goes now (skipping a few years) ... fuck it, let them be lame, trying to incorporate emo rock with their music, it just goes to show That ICP's message was stronger, and more hardcore and the reason so many fans are upset is 'cuz we were feeling that FUCK THE MAINSTREAM SHIT, we fell in Love with songs like "bury me alive" so How can we go from Songs like "ShitTalkaz" to "magic spells" you know Twiztid taking selfies with lame emo bands... dude... they fucking left the Wicked Shit underground, now they're warped tour mainstream pop rock... that's what it is...

i'll stay bumpin' K.G.P., i'll stay bumpin' Esham and NATAS!, I'll stay bumpin' Dark Lotus, but i ain't gonna support or even listen to new twiztid now, those dudes are on some Wack eminem fan boy  shit, Fuck that.

it's all about The Wicked Shit. ICP & Esham. forever motherphuccker!
