its all relative.  like everything else.

nothings left is probably the has been stuck in my head during every funeral ive been to since 99.  that makes it pretty sad to me.

think i mentioned before that the end of crystal ball, with the 'rain comes down' bit, hit me kinda directly with a 'its okay to be sad' sorta message/vibe.  there were some recent deaths among my people that i was dealing with at the time.

i believe i read sumn about how j wrote vera lee after he heard about a girl he went to school with dying.  assumin thats correct, and with that context, its a fairly sad song.  ['saddest words in the english language:  "could have been"']

gone is sad for more or less the same reason.

feel like most of the choices made in this thread, if not all, are perfectly legit.

psyral:  i dont think youre quite that vacant.  ive known some real unemotional people, most of em are borderline sociopaths.

failing to display sadness at the appropriate times doesnt prove one to be an emotionless robot.  id expect that it is some combination of the following two factors:  1] youve got better coping skills than the average person, and 2] youve experienced a lesser amount of tragedy than the average person.

anyway, ive seen you laugh.  my personal theory is that laughter evolved in humans as a special reaction to despair.

  awfully paranoid, arent you?

yeah, it probably comes down to what you bring to it.

suicide hotline isnt sad to me, cause the song got fucked up by the song's ending imo. regarding "under the moon" I couldnt decide. somehow it isnt that sad to me. The protagonist's story is sad and the song goes by an emotional undertone, but the aggression and anger the protagonist brings to it make me feel that he hasnt given up on him yet, so it's more than often kinda uplifting to me. most icp songs are though. as well as "hate her to death". or "crossing thy bridge".

but I absolutely agree with "behind the paint" and "gone"! devastating songs I cant always listen to, mainly just when I'm in a mood like yesterday. (realizing that you kinda fucked up your exams is disturbing :S)

ah, and "joke ya mind" is more wicked clown style to me and not sad. what means "floobiness" by the way? didnt find anything in my dictionary.

and thanks for the language discussion, but my question is not fully answered :P I wanted to know if I could have used the preposition "of" instead of "by". in some cases "of", "by" and "from" are all translated to one word in german ("von"), and that makes it hard sometimes to translate from german to english. ^^" "saddest songs of ICP" - would that be correct?

there is so much variancy. I cry maybe three times a year. Its akin to vomiting... you resist and loathe the initial feelings, then you can feel a sort of warm cleanse. I am aware that crying is healthy, and honestly wish I did it more often. Maybe I will practice this as a spiritual workout, or at least an exercise for mental and physical well-being.

On da flip side, I have had trouble laughing for many years. Like those real, honest, oh so pleasurable belly guffaws. On the rare and becoming rarer occasions that I do laugh genuinely, I feel grateful as all hell. I find it hard to laugh truly around new people, or those that are not from my original circle of friends and family. The biggest impact was the death of my brother, then the other brother. Vecause we shared a maniacal, high spirited sense of humor that no one I have met since shares. Or if they do, I cant seem to let myself relax to that point of pure hilarity. I overheard some coworkers in North Carolina saying that my laugh was "like I was dying inside". One of those phrases you never forget, haha.

My homie is coming to live near us in a couple days, and he shared some of my brothers and my own warped sense of humor. Hopefully this will help me laugh away some rough spirit scabs.

Underrated things: laughter, crying, tears, health, sleep.

First of all, you know what I meant.

Secondly, none of that is true.

Finally, even if any of that WERE true, it doesn't really matter. Does it really matter if a man cries, is in touch with his feminine side, or wears panties? Who the fuck is that hurting? No one, so why would you even care?

ah, thanks! I really really want to, but - sorry for mentioning it that often - it's hard to get in Germany and as a student I can't order it carefree from hatchetgear or something. I didnt find it yet here around. I should have planned it better when I had the chance to visit my sister in NY earlier this year. But I will! Some day!

I don't think it's technically incorrect, but it would sound pretentious and awkward to use "of" instead of "by" there.

A lot of good choices, Scruffy mentioned about the end of Crystal Ball, that part always gave me goosebumps.

My favorite sad song right now is Fraudulent Cloth by Jedi Mind Tricks. The chorus that Eamon sings gives me chills-

fuuuck I forgot Angels Falling. Sugar Slam's best contribution vocally. I love the imagery and emotion of it.

Hate her to death,  and i dunno man vera lee is pretty sad.

I despise both of those songs. Never genuinelly hated anything ICP did till both of those came out. Oh and Vultures is wack as fuck too.

Anyway, I think the saddest song out of all the songs that don't suck (ie; Manic Depressive) is Joke Ya Mind. Especially with the interlude beforehand about homie sleeping in the street and being so grateful for that last remaining freedom that no one can take away from him.

Lol what about the chop chop slide. I cant really say i hate any of their songs. I dont listen to a good number of them tho cuz i dont like them. I dont like listening to bang pow boom the song or the mighty death pop the song either.

Sad songs make me happy anyways. Thats why i was kind of worried if found. Thats like that happiest tbing in my library besides good old bob Marley.

Hey everyone- first post here.

I read this thread a couple days ago before I joined, and I've been thinking about this a lot.  Sad songs, especially in hip-hop or country or other story-telling genres, come in two types, at least to my thinking.  There are songs that are sad stories, and songs about just being sad.

As far as saddest stories, I'd say "Vera Lee" which is in my head lately.

And for just feeling sad, I think I'll go with "Nothing's Left" "Crossing Thy Bridge" "Behind the Paint" and "Take It!' from FF vol.3.  Take It! isn't a sad sounding song, but thinking of watching your homie get carried away to hell is kind of rough, and knowing that the decision isn't up to you on where he goes--not sad in its execution but it comes from a sad concept.

when I first saw you say Take It was a sad song i chuckled, but truth is, if the beat were different and J sung it in a different context with the same lyrics, it could easily pass for a sad song. Would be cool if he acousticated it.
