Tech was literally dancing in his seat with excitement about the new album and some of the featured artists on it. He couldn’t say who they were, but he did explain that the album will be broken up into three distinct sections — Fire, Water and Earth.
Fire, Tech said, will have darker tracks, but the CD will finish with a heavenly theme in the Earth portion.
“I’ve got some heavenly ‘We Are The World’ shit on this album, swear to God,” Tech said.
As for Water, Tech said he hasn’t quite decided, but possible themes might be partying or confusion.
No matter what Tech ends up doing with Something Else, it’s already shaping up to be another great addition to his legacy, and another piece of evidence for why Tech N9ne is the best independent rapper there is.

Interview with rolling stone mag
Tech N9ne Recruits Serj Tankian, Cee Lo for New AlbumKansas City rapper's 'Something Else' out Jun
By STEVE BALTIN
APRIL 2, 2013 1:00 PM ET
"I'm the rock & roll nigger," Tech N9ne tells Rolling Stone. After working with the Deftones for the song "If I Could" on 2011's All 6s and 7s, the Kansas City, Missouri rapper is taking another step towards cementing that status on his forthcoming Something Else.
"One of the members of a big, humongous rock band did a song with me," he told us when we visited with him backstage at Paid Dues Independent Hip-Hop Festival in San Bernardino. After debating whether he should spill the beans, he revealed that it is System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian, who appears on the opening track to Something Else.
As a huge fan, Tech reached out to Tankian. "I think he is fucking insane lyrically, musically, spiritually . . . Totally cluster-fuck-ish like myself – you never know what's going to happen in the music," he said. "If you talk to Serj, he'll probably tell you he knew nothing about Tech N9ne until the song was sent to him, and after listening to it he went and got all my music, and it makes him run faster on the treadmill."
Tankian confirmed Tech's story. "I had not heard of Tech N9ne when we were sent the track," he said. "I checked out a bunch of his songs and really got into his flow, intensity and dynamics, and I agreed to sing on it," Tankian told Rolling Stone. "Originality in hip-hop and rock are hard to come by."
Now that the two have formed a mutual admiration society, Tech has high hopes for the future of the track. "The song's gonna be big. I would love to shoot a video," he said.
Tankian isn't the only big-name guest on Something Else. "I worked with people who I deemed incredible musically, lyrically," said Tech. "Cee Lo came through and did a chorus for me on a song called 'That's My Kid,' with Big Krit and Game. It's about our kids coming up, not following our negative footsteps. They latched onto other things that are positive. And now we're going to graduation saying, 'That's my kid right there,' instead of seeing them disappear in the night air."
With the record not quite done there are a few features up in the air, including one Tech wanted to go to Corey Taylor, who was not available timing-wise. He has other rockers in mind. "I might send it to James Hetfield," he said. "I heard he was a fan. I heard they [Metallica] warm up to my song 'Einstein.'"
Tech has a couple of objectives in mind. One is to bring his collaborators into his world: "Something Else is supposed to be something else – I'm taking different artists out of their element, putting them in a strange land."
The other goal is to let mainstream fans know just who Tech N9ne is. "This album is gonna show everybody that I'm here to stay and I'm not a fluke," he said. Given his consistent appeal as a live draw and seven straight albums charting in the top 10 of the Billboard Rap charts, that he feels underappreciated is surprising.
"Of the people who watch television and listen to the radio all the time, a lot of them don't know," he said, "because we're not on the radio or videos like that, in a heavy rotation like a 2 Chainz or Lil Wayne. But we pop up in those circles because real shit always shines."
And he expects fans who aren't aware that Tech has SoundScanned over a million albums to pay attention this summer. "Something Else is gonna be one of those ones that people are gonna say, 'Whoa,'" he said. "Just the features I told you are huge. They're gonna all vouch for me. I'm real – everybody does it out of respect.

Tech has always made "mainstream" sounding tracks since before anghellic. I personally don't think he has changed much to get this attention. If u keep grinding, u continue to get bigger(strange). If u are content with ur position and stop working to gain more and stay satisfied with what u already have(psychopathic) u quit growing and eventually start shrinking

Tech has also never released an album with a major label behind it like Jive Records & Island/Def Jam, no hate its the truth almost all of ICP's gold and platinum records came from the era of them being signed to major labels. And I'm not trying to beef or nothing just pointing that out because its valid
I'm looking forward to the album even tho I didnt really care for anything he put on the strange sampler, something tells me most of those will wind up as bonus tracks tho anyway like 6's & 7's, most of the first songs he leaked for that like "F.A.N.S" all wound up as bonus joints by the time the actual album dropped.

Huge SOAD fan, mostly peaked at "Steal This Album!", but I definitely prefer Serj singing over Daron. Daron is perfect as background vocalist in addition to guitars. First album is best, along with Toxicity. Solo shit too... I'm excited. Remember SOAD doing Wu Tang "Shame?". Done well, it'll work great, dis collabo. Hopefully Cee-Lo comes correct, also a huge fan, like his first two solos, Goodie Mobb, Dungeon Family & Gnarls Barkley type shit. His last solo was not my style. Bad or good, it'll be worth hearing Tech mix it up.

I'm thinking this album is going to get pushed back. All of these interviews from the last week all he's been saying is "I gotta record this, I gotta write that, I got a beat for this I haven't done". This album is supposed to be out in less than 2 months. It should be mastered and on it's way to pressing by now.

You're talking sales, so you must be talking money. ICP and PSY can't touch Tech and Strange's bank roll. Don't front. ICP does MAYBE 25-30 shows a year. They get 10-12 g's per show from a venue that holds 1100+ which is a pretty standard size. Tech does 100+ shows around the world, and I know for a fact in the US he gets at least 9k for the same size audience. I'm sure just to get tech to stand on your festival stage it's at least 15k. Tech doesn't have to sell physicals, he makes money off his body, and of course the merch those 100+ shows sell. And he has an "all-star" lineup that makes him money. Aint nobody on psy ever made them money but themselves. And just to poke fun at twiztid they got 4k a show for this second leg of abominationz and that was for the ENTIRE roster of 8 openers they brought with them. I thought that was pretty funny. Potluck must be working for weed again.

I wouldnt call it an "All-star" line-up. Tech is ok, I like Kutt and Lynch and the rest are not worth caring about. Also, PSY and Strange put out different music. PSY is for the Wicked shit type music, and Strange is more rap/hip hop style (except Lynch, hes more horrorcore style). The rap/hip hop style has a bigger audience than ICP's style. People mostly care about albums that bump or hit hard these days. As long as an album has the Strange label on it, they will buy it no matter what. Ppl are on Strange's dick so hard now that any album is automatically straight fire.

not worth caring about???? kali is a musical genius, mayday is the shit, ces cru just put out an awesome record and rittz just dropped one too. not to mention prozak, stevie stone, and kutt are all top notch recording artists. strange music is running the game and psychopathic stands by and makes tiny moves. nothing against psy they are happy selling the same amount of shit everytime. strange is more focused on continuing to get bigger.

there is no comparison for 2013, psy put up a fight last year by releasing twiztid and icp's new records but besides that we got cold187um and that was it I think. strange released 4 lps and 9 eps and all were decent music.

Strange is like the old Psychopathic. Every so many years, a new label takes over. Years ago, PSY was top notch. They had a full label, and everybody bought and liked everything they put out and every artist they had. Thats how Strange is now. After some years, Strange will be number two, and some other Independent artist will be number 1 and have the most popular label. No matter who Tech signs, they are automatically good. He could sign the crappiest rapper, but everyone will love it. Not hating on Tech or Strange, just stating how it usually goes.
