i love madchild but i can understand why others might not. He can spit, his ryhmes are dope, and he works with good producers who work well with him, like rob the viking. but hes got that nasally voice that some might find annoying and his lyrical range is pretty limited too- he rarely branches out from the typical bragging stuff. Still, he brings the energy, he gets the energy across, and all that’s good enough for me. One of my absoulte favorites.

Im a Battleaxe Warrior so this may be hypocrisy and may get my pass revoked… but honestly aside from Dope Sick I don’t listen to many Madchild songs because he literally uses the same rhymes and structures…it gets mad childish (pun intended). I love Swollen and the Baxwar movement is a fresh idea if it ever actualizes into what it was espoused to be about.

What was it espoused to be about?

Here’s every Madchild song:
“I’m a this, I’m a that
I’m a this and a that
I’m a this, I’m a that
I do this and I do that.”
Every damn song.
There ya go. Some Madchild hate. Have fun with it.
That’s… actually… pretty spot on. Lol

I like some of his feature verses on other peoples shit and there’s a few solo songs of his I don’t mind but overall I’ve never been able to get into Swollen Members or Madchild’s whole albums…I give their new ones a try every time one drops just to see if they win me over because they’re obviously skilled lyricists…just find their subject matter and song structuring kind of bland/repetitive I guess…nothing really stands out to me about them

In its inception it was supposed to be a place where talented emcees, producers, graffiti artists, alternative sports (BMX, UFC, Beaver wrestling etc) shared their shit and got support from other members with complimentary skills. Its yet to attract that much heat other then Adlib and Snak the Ripper. I do fucks with both of them so its all good in my book…just not quite the scope they intended at its inception per say.

I might watch you his Ustream tonight just to see what the fuck is up with SWOLLEN MEMBERS right now. Seems MADCHILD is all about the solo career since SWOLLEN‘s last album “Brand New Day” flopped hard.
Madchild is on tour with Swollen right now in Australia so it can’t be that bad. He’s got a show in Australia on 9/27 and then joins the ICP tour in Ohio on 9/30- I don’t know how the fuck he’s going to do that.
Did Brand New Day really flop hard? That sucks, I thought it was fucking great- it’s probably my most listened to album of 2014.

Compared to most other rap releases, the album was stellar.
But for a Swollen, release, it was sub par. For me it just wasn’t wicked enough. I love the the tracks “Jacques Cousteau” and “Odd Goblin”, those are classic Swollen fo sho.
And yeah, unfortunately the album barely charted, Madchild admitted the album stiffed in subsequent interviews. Probably why there is no plans on them recording anything together, anytime soon. You are right, someone in Australia booked Swollen for a short tour, which is cool.

I’ve only been listening to him since he resurfaced a few years ago (DopeSick I think) and dude’s pretty good. I have the same gripes with him that I have with CES CRU though, halfway through the album I find myself saying “I get it”. He doesn’t change his structure for shit. A couple witty lines, a horror/kung fu/video game reference, sampled hook, repeat, end. One or two songs per album or as a feature seems to be where he shines.
