I don’t see it as the same style. It’s the same pose, though.
I say go for it. You have your own style.

i know why the grid, just wanted to see how youd carry it.think tom wood do them grids? i kindly doubt it.
I’m pretty sure tom uses grids. He works with digital art and disabling the grids is easy but pointless.

I do free handed art to but when i wanna do a project i like to get organized its just how my mind works. i break a piece down pixel by pixel
I think this is a fantastic way to work. I would recommend working larger. This piece looks really small. You said it’s a sketch, so maybe that’s why, but you also want us to say if we think you’ve got something going on so it’s hard to really say.
I’d say for sure keep working on it. I don’t think there would be any problems with working on something that has a similar body position if for no other reason than to keep practicing. Also, if you’re college aged but aren’t in school, I’d say hit up a community college near you and take all the art classes you can. I learned so much by going back to school and it will help you develop your own style so that you don’t have to worry about looking like a copy cat or anything.

Just a tip, switch from sharpies to micron pigma pens. You can get AWESOME detail with them and get teensy lines, also they don’t bleed on the paper. Here’s a link to where you can buy them pigma pens
Good luck with your career in art, but may I suggest something else to fall back on in case it doesn’t take off?
