I got ya, homie. I *love this show too! The Wedding was one of the most fucked up awesome episodes to ever happen to a tv show (at least until that shit with Lizzie on Walking Dead a few weeks ago). I know that it (red wedding) gets a lot of play with people because it gets talked about the most but if people hadn’t watched the whole series up to that point, they have NO IDEA how amazingly fucked up that was (trying not to throw out spoilers if anyone reading hasn’t seen).
In a weird way, we all owe a debt to Peter Jackson and the LotR movies for shows like this to even exist. The settings, the costuming… the straight up BLOODSHED! I know some people (including me) have problems *reading the books like this with all the made up names and languages and places to have to remember and keep track of… but they’ll watch five different NCISs and all that other “police procedural dramas”… but how many have some dude CHOPPING THE HEAD OFF A HORSE?! Just cuz he’s pissed!
Can’t wait to see how they pick up the new Thrones season but I gotta wait till it’s on demand cuz I’m not currently paying for the HBO package (the episodes are available right after OD).

Yeah I dont wanna spoil shit for people who haven’t seen it but basically about two years ago I got off late and my girl had to work early so I wanted to download a season of a show and googled what the 10 best shows on right now were and GoT was number one. I watched the entire first season (10 episodes I think) while she slept and wouldn’t even talk to her while she got ready for work because it was right before the season finale which started with one of the grizzliest shifts in a show ive ever seen. That scene was only topped by the Red Wedding Cheshyr was referencing. Ive been ever so hooked ever since and have seen every episode at least four times.
Stop reading this and go download that shit….NOW…

I agree completley that the LotR movies set the stage for this to even be possible. If those movies hadn’t been commercially successful, and so immense in terms of scope I imagine they wouldn’t have invested the massive amount of time and money on the first season. I mean hell they cast Boromir as Eddard Stark for christs sake. Sean Bean is a bit of a whore tho to be honest.

He must be in every fantasy movie ever made, however his character must always die. It’s in his contract.
He is the shit in Sharpe’s Rifles. Know about it son.

After a bit of surfing through troll links and baited “you need to download something-er-other“, I managed to find a streaming link to watch….
OMG. I’m so glad I can geek out. What is it about *this show that makes the ultra-violence so GAWD DAMN satisfying?
I have to say that Arya is one of my favorite characters. Not just because she’s a bit of the underdog but because she’s always been on her own and surviving….
But when she sinks Needle into that guy’s throat… UGH! I LOVE her! (in that supportive way. not the other kind)
I was really concerned how they were gonna pick up the new season and it’s obvious to me at this point that either you MUST have to watch the previous seasons or at the VERY least be sitting in the room with someone that *has in order to even understand the depth of what any individual scene means.
Or for that matter,
in the scene where those two captains (don’t recall their names) are “gambling”, if you don’t know that all the members of Daenerys Targaryen‘s army are all eunuchs, the joke about “rather having *both balls” would just seem like some bit of usual male ribbing. If you don’t know that the ENTIRE war is because Bran Stark accidently caught Jamie Lannister fucking his sister Cersei and pushed him out a window, the scene where she turns down his advances just means, “Oh. Did he just try to kiss his sister?!”
Honestly, The Walking Dead has gotten to that point as well and that’s when you separate the hardcore from the merely interested. In anything. We could just as easily say that about Psychopathic. After 15 years of ups and downs, even if you can’t claim to have been down since Dog Beats… you better know what the hell that is or it’s GTFO.
Shows like this make me feel like I’m smarter when I know EXACTLY what the hell is going on when others are just looking for tits (or dongs for the ladies).
Of course, now that South Park has put their spin on it, I can’t help but think of them every time someone is walking through a garden: “No, it’s MY damn garden and I’m sick of you kids dressin’ up and having your talks of betrayal in it!”

@cheshyr
I think they did a great job using the intro to catch people up to speed who hadn’t seen the past seasons myself. I knew that dude was catching needle to the throat as soon as he came onto the screen.

Your loss homie it has everything I love in one complex little package.
1: Excessive violence.
2: Titties just about every episode.
3: Midgets.
4: Dragons.
5: The bad guys usually win because their lack of morals allows them to break rules that honorable characters do not allow themselves to do. (This always annoyed me about fantasy movies…the protagonist always wins somehow…not in GoT).
6: Gratuitous nudity followed by gratuitous violence followed by gratuitous nudity.
7: More often then not rapists are brutally murdered in some form or fashion.
8: Explosive pig shit.
9: War is depicted not in a glorious manner, but in the way it would actually go down. You know the village burning, kid massacring, woman raping, resource stripping, torturous real destruction that comes from forced occupation by an enemy force
I could keep going here but you get the point I suppose.

I totally understand how some people just “don’t wanna” get into some shows. Personally, I only “allow” myself to get deep into just a handful of shows at a time. GoT, Walking Dead, Doctor Who, the new Sherlock… they all require a level of commitment that I just don’t wanna put into a whole shitload of other shows.
I have friends that have given me shit for years about Firefly, “It’s only *one season! Why won’t you watch it?!” CUZ I DON’T WANNA! Then there’s the damn movie and all the spin off type shit… I’ve watched every episode of Star Trek: TNG a million times (because it’s been on for years) but never got into Deep Space 9 or Voyager (personally HATE but that’s for another time) or Enterprise. I really got into Battlestar Galactica and Heroes and honestly those two were probably responsible for my feelings on it. I don’t like having my appreciation as a fan manipulated to that degree and there’s just too much other shit out there that DOESN’T require me to defend it or myself against.
Game of Thrones is easy for *me to enjoy. Might not be for others. That’s cool too.
