The Conjuring 2 was hella meh. The Warrens weren’t even heavily involved in that case; there’s a much better docudrama-style miniseries about it on Netflix called the Enfield Haunting.

The crooked man was pretty spooky, but it didn’t belong in the Enfield story. Hollywood took too many liberties; “based on a true story” my ass.

I really want to see Lights Out. It comes out July 22nd and looks to borrow a lot of inspiration from J-horror movies. Won’t be able to afford it, though, which is a bummer. Maybe it’ll run late into August? A potato can hope.

saw a trailer for it…looks ok i guess…ill check it out if i hear its any good. I saw a Ghost poster in the trailer so that gave me a boner…but enough about my boner.

Anyone know of any good horror movies in theaters that I could take her to?

Conjuring 2 is only thing i can think of thats horror out in theaters…lights out comes out july 22nd i believe…i took my grandma to see the new mad max last year  …she loved it…shes not into horror but she like raunchy comedies…she bought jackass on VHS back in the day…lol

The Neon Demon might still be playing …not anywhere near me anymore…hopefully it will go to the cheap theater soon.

i watched it earlier…looks cool. Im just tired of the shaky cam shit. I hope Adam Wingard does it well. The Guest is an amazing movie and I really enjoyed You’re Next so it should be good.

Finally went and saw Lights Out. I give it a 6.5,  but I’m also a bit of a horror movie snob.

Most of the scares are jump scares, but they’re pretty effective and you don’t always see them coming. A lot of the ‘in the dark’ scenes are solid “Nope!” and it takes from Japanese ghost horror, but some of the potential is lost.

Without spoiling too much, the ghost is pretty well tied to the family in the movie, so you don’t ever really get that “Oh noes, what if it comes after me next?!” experience, which I think is integral to the horror experience. If you can’t see yourself as the victim, it’s hard to get really SCARED.

Ending was solid though. Really fit the plot, but I wasn’t expecting it. Was actually marginally upsetting to me, which isn’t a complaint.

I’m not sure I’d recommend seeing it in theatres, unless you really just want to go to the cinema, but once it hits Netflix, I’d say it’s definitely worth a watch.

If I saw it in the bargain bin I’d buy it on disc.

The Disappointments Room. What a fucking mess of a movie. I’m intrigued by the history that inspired it, but the movie itself is garbage.

I’ve seen the new Blair Witch movie. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great. A few missed opportunities. But it was decent.
