VD I finished resolution. I loved the movie and the dynamic between mike and chris. Great actors Ive never heard of. But for the life of me I cant decipher what it all means because of the ending being so ambiguous. Im curious as to what you made out of it. Might have to give it a second go through to see if I missed something because I feel like the pieces are in there somewhere

haha yep..another viewing for sure.but what I got out of it is this…whatever those french people were invetigating at that house is something other worldly.tribes peoplle calll it a god, ghost, aliens whatever you want to call it.as you watch the movie it always seems like something is video taping them.well god/aliens/ghost is always watching us.looking out for us.they gave them a choice or different endings as to their fate and how they would die.we has people can be gods or aliens.I think its being meta by we are the viewers and we always want the worst ending for people in horror movies.at the end the creature/god/aliens/ghost/us came to them and decided their fate.Thats what i got from it but its a very confusing movie.Watch that part again when he goes to that old man in the trailer who owns that dogs.sort of explains it there.

Vd thats about what I got out of it for the most part. In the trailer the old man is holding up a mirror to another mirror to convey the sense of the infinite. So I took it like this…*SPOILERS* At the end you see the copyright of the reservation for the film indicating we are actually watching a lost film like blair witch. So in essence we are watching a story of a guy(mike) watching stories and maybe our life is just another story being watched by someone else hence the mirror looking into the mirror.
So we are the god/alien/ghost watching the movie just like there is a god/alien/ghost watching our movie. Its a dizzying concept to try to wrap my mind around

Lords of Salem: I’m still honestly torn on how I felt about this one. I alternate daily between looking back and saying “man, I loved that” and “man, that was fucking horrible.” Which, for any and all flaws it may have had, does say something. It at least provoked a strong reaction, not just “…Meh.” I get what Rob was going for, it was pretty much a love letter to Argento and Kubrick, but…I’m just not sure Zombie has the chops to pull it off. And this is coming from someone who liked House of 1000 Corpses, and loved The Devil’s Rejects. Likewise, I’m not sure Sheri Moon has the acting chops, either, though she’s not unlikeable. Bruce Davison knocks it out of the fucking park, though, he was great here, despite having relatively little to work with. Judy Geeson, Meg Foster, and Patricia Quinn all ham it up, and seem to have a blast doing so, and that was fun. The criminal under-use and over-billing of Sid Haig and Michael Berryman grates me, and even Ken Foree isn’t given much to do here. Which I get, in a sense, because when you boil it down, it’s a story about Sheri’s character. It just felt as though they could have been used much more effectively. There were some great visuals, though, that’s undeniable. One day, when I don’t have to pay for it, I’ll go back and give it another watch, and maybe come up with a more absolute decision.
The Conjuring: Follows in James Wan’s recent trend, ala both Insidious movies, which this could apply equally to. It’s enjoyable haunted house stuff, we’ve all seen it before. Nothing out of the ordinary, though nothing to be really upset about. “Oooh, spooky ghosts in the house want your bodies, ooooh.” You know the drill. Still, there are some cool moments, the acting’s passable, Nite Owl Patrick Wilson’s always enjoyable in all of these. I’d say The Conjuring edges out the Insidious films in that it seemed to have a bit more tension building, a bit less cheap jump scares. Still, all of these are fun enough. Also, in regards to Insidious: Darth Maul. That is all.
Sinister: This one falls into the same category as above, although it pulled it off just a touch better. There are some legitimately creepy moments here, not just the usual “seen it all before” stuff you tend to get with Wans’ recent work. I was actually pretty surprised by this, it seems to have put a lot of heart into what it was doing, and it comes through. The atmosphere is there, the acting by Ethan Hawke is great, and really the acting all falls on him. Still, there are some issues. About halfway through the movie, I’d already figured out where it was going, what the big twist was going to be, all that. Some of the plot-points end up going nowhere, there’s a goofy detective who seemed a bit out of place, things like that. But, aside from the predictable ending, these are all minor issues, and don’t take away from the film’s enjoyability.
Cabin In The Woods: I fucking loved this movie. It’s a Whedon-penned homage/send-up to horror tropes, what’s not to love? It’s like what Shaun of the Dead did for zombie films, only instead of just the zombie genre, this takes on pretty much every genre of horror, right down to Lovecraftian. It’s main focus, however, is the classic Cabin in the Woods scenario, which leads in for plenty of Evil Dead winks and nods, which is enough to make my day right off the bat. The writing’s bang-on, as you’d expect from Whedon, the direction is great, and the actors all nail it, especially Fran Kranz, who I don’t think I’ve seen in anything before this, but between this and Much Ado About Nothing, he definitely caught my attention. I wouldn’t say this movie is scary, I don’t think that’s the point, but it is a great take on scary movies. Love it, love it, love it.
Red State: I swear to God, I watched this movie. I did. I was high off my ass, granted. (Did that just destroy any reviewer cred I’d built up over the last four reviews? …Pretty okay with it, if so.) But I don’t remember a single thing, other than that I found Goodman’s performance really enjoyable. Throw this one in the “I-Need-To-Watch-Again-I-Was-Too-Fucking-High-Last-Time” bin.
