In the pages of today’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #44, Donatello was killed in a battle with Bebop and Rocksteady.
The series, by writers Tom Waltz and TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman, has committed to being more grounded in order to harken back to the original series, and this violent development certainly keeps in line with that.
As for how it happened, Leonardo, Raphael, and Michelangelo were trying to stop Krang from terraforming the planet using the alien “Technodrome,” leaving Donatello running command from their home base. Shredder had ordered Bebop and Rocksteady to kill Donatello if anything went wrong, and sure enough, something did.
Donatello tried to fight them off, even getting some help from Metalhead (being controlled by scientist Harold Lillia), but the duo was too much. The killing blow came when Rocksteady smashed his shell with a sledgehammer.
Thus proving that in the end, the batman complex fails. if you dont kill your enemy and keep skirmishing with them for years, eventually you will DIE.
i wonder if they will replace him. its not liek theres an infinite supply of teenage mutant ninja turtles….
