I’m curious if y’all(or anyone) has had the chance to read the two latest novels ‘Revival’ and ‘Mr Mercedes’. I finished the first in a couple days and am working on ‘Mr Mercedes’ now. Let me know what y’all thought.

All this time and I’ve overlooked this thread. I can’t believe it.
I read Mr. Mercedes when it first came out. If you’re a general fan of SK, I would assume you’d be fine with this novel. It kind of has a Bag of Bones pace to it and is similar to The Colorado Kid in it being a mystery. It’s become a trilogy I believe with the second novel Finders Keepers, out in June.
I just finished Revival yesterday. It wasn’t too bad. The jacket says it’s the most horrifying ending King has ever written. Eh, I wouldn’t go that far. But it’s certainly a return to actual horror. The antagonist clown doesn’t turn into a giant spider randomly at the end. This is a book that I would like to see a faithful film adaptation for. It’s easy to follow as each chapter covers a year (chronological, but skipping 10 years at a time in places) of the main character. Sometimes I had to go back to remember his relatives names, but they were mostly unimportant to the main story. I guess I’d recommend it as a read and maybe give it a 7.3 on the Todash SK scale™

And not to brag, but I’ve been a fan of his since I first saw (and as a result, read) The Shining when I was 12.
I’ve read all 63 published works and a few that weren’t. If anyone wants some reviews or recommendations, just ask.

That goes for most film / TV adaptations as well. I haven’t seen every single one though. There’s maybe 10 I haven’t seen and most are TV segments (Tales from the Darkside, and X-Files, for instance.)
Sorry to troll this forum like this, but I’m a fanatic. Going back and reading all 10 pages of this forum now to see what everyone’s thinking.

So this is happening now. I was really apprehensive about elba at first. Not because dude is black but because I had no idea who he was and not who I imagined for the role(someone like Daniel Day Lewis or Josh Brolin).
I gotta say though, after watching him in Beasts of No Nation I am fucking sold on him. He has definitely got the quiet intensity that is required for the role.
There is gonna hafta be some changing around of the story of course because of the racial dynamic between Susanna Dean and Roland in the books but fuck it. I am just really fucking happy to finally see this shit come to fruition after years of chasing information on the net.
Love Mcconaughey but we will hafta see about it on this one…Again not close to who I imagined for The Man In Black.
Any thoughts?

I am simultaneously worried and extremely hype for this film. They just started filming like lat week. I am super curious as well if Sushanna and Roland will have revered racial dynamics, her as a Caucasian, or a new angle, or what.. gonna be interesting.
Mad people are upset that Roland is played by a black dude, but I’m fine with it. I still want (and he wants it to) for Eddie Dean to be played by Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad. He is dying to play Eddie and said it would be the role of a lifetime. He would be a great pick. I used to envision a sort of Edward Norton dude but not quite.
I liked Jamie Sheridan’s take on Flagg for The Stand tv movie. He was good.

Any thoughts?dont know what the link is about, et cetera… but i assume youre talkin bout idris elba, who i would call a really good actor.
So “the internet” people, fans of Stephen King primarily, are all hepped up about the main character in The Dark Tower series, Roland the Gunslinger, being changed from a Caucasian Clint Eastwood + Stephen King- looking dude to the African fellow, dark skindded Idris Elba. While the confusion and concern about a very important dynamic between Roland and an African American crippled gal named Odetta/Detta/Sushanna/Mia (long story). One of her personalities is brimming with homicidal racial venom, and tries to kill “that honky muhfuh” named Roland and sets an integral portion of the entire epic 8 book series into motion. 8 books plus a comic book series. But I am more curious than confused, wondering how things will be altered for the film version.
In addition to the series of films planned, portions of the tale will be show as an HBO miniseries, to fill in the many, many details.
I was just explaining Dark Tower to a coworker today. Might have started him on the path to the dopest books ever.

Homies, Dark Tower homies. This may be the saving grace for the Dark tower film.
In theory, this may be a SEQUEL TO THE BOOK.
For those in the know… this MAY BE THE STORY OF WHAT HAPPENS AFTER ROLAND STARTS HIS POSSIBLE REDEMPTION AFTER TOUCHING THE HORN OF ELS AT THE END OF THE FINAL BOOK.
I am officially hyped.

Swallow your preconceived notions about Steve and vomit up some curiosity. Matter of fact, I unintentionally have my homie at work already through the first book.

not preconceived notions; my notions were properly conceived, based on his works. the ones ive read.
my only preconceived notion regarding this work, specificly, is that it would be a long read. of stephen king writing.
awfully paranoid, arent you?

Which ones have you peeped? The Dark Tower is important to such coinciding works as Salem’s Lot, The Stand, Eyes of the Dragon, The Talisman, Insomnia, and many more… it’s fantastic.

started the stand once, i think. none of the rest of those.
my uncle, who is a small king fan [more than me, anyway] is quick to say that salems lot is his only good book. but hes read most of em… feature that.
i know i actually finished it [the book. ‘it’. not salems lot]. i think i finished desperation, the only one i own. read a load of short stories.
and then theres a buncha books that i put down somewhere around halfway through em.
awfully paranoid, arent you?
