Man, I forgot all about Door To December, that book fucking rocked. That’s probably my favorite one by him, I can’t believe I forgot about that one. That girl’s father was seriously fucked in the head, very interesting guy though. As for your question, I’m sorry man, I haven’t read Just After Sunset. You’re probably right though, you know how Stephen King loves to connect his books, it’s not uncommon. Morgan Sloat’s a character dude, you enjoying that one?

Yeah I can't believe I hadn't picked it up before. I'm actually trying to pace myself through this one. I have a habit of blazing through books and not retaining alot of information on it. Im bout to put some time in on it tonight though.
And yes Door to December is an amazing fucking book

WARNING SPOILERS FOR THE TALISMAN PREACHY!!!!!!!!!!!
I finally finished the talisman last night. I loved every minute of this book. It reminded me in a lot of ways Rolands journey for the dark tower. My only gripe with it, and it's a very small one, is how the clothes change over when they “flip”. By itself that's fine, but I kind of see it as a side story to the dark tower series, and that just doesn't mesh with it. I felt like I shared the weight of the world that was on jacks shoulders, from his time at the “Oatley Tap” to his time being bullied in “The Sunlight Home”.
I was relieved and hurt at the same time when wolf sacrificed himself to save jacks life. On one hand he was a burden. I would not have lasted the three days jack spent in that shed while wolf was “running with the moon”. On the other he was this goofy character that you wish you could have spent more time with.
The battle at Camp Readiness reminded me a whole lot of the dark tower also. Just the way they bust down the gate uzis blazing. Jack mentions something about a savage joy that came from killings the bad wolfs. Jack is definitely a gunslinger at heart.
I loved the vivid descriptions of the territories. From the beautiful landscapes to the clean smells that don't exist in our world, I could easily imagine that world. I wish more of the book was spent exploring it. I would have liked to know more about what happened to the queen at the end as well. And if parkus/speedy managed to do what he set out to do at the end.
Also at the end in the black hotel, you find out that the talisman is the “nexus of all worlds”….So does that mean that essentially it is the Rose/Dark Tower? It makes me wonder if Jacks world is the keystone world…Because in the dark tower series the Rose is in the keystone world….
Awesome book though, Im about to start on the black house tonight

WARNING!!!!! SPOILERS PART 2 PREACHY!!!!!
Hey man, I’ve been wondering if you were still reading that. I’ve never known anyone else who has ever read it, so hearing you talk about it is a trip homie. I don’t even know where to start lol. I had read the talisman first, so when I read the dark tower series I saw similarities that way, same as you but the other way around. The black hotel was to Jack what the dark tower was to Roland, and at the center of that universe was the talisman, which was the size, time and space of all worlds. There’s online articles that discuss the similarities of those two books, and they do it better than I could without directly quoting them. The dark tower is way more complex, and Roland’s journeys through different worlds over centuries of time remind me a lot of what Jack felt when he first picked up the talisman. It’s been awhile so it’s a little hard for me to grasp what I want to say right now, hopefully I’m not confusing the fuck out of you. The talisman came out between the gunslinger and the drawing of the three, for whatever that’s worth, but I feel King brought the idea of space between worlds further in the dark tower books than he could have with the talisman. Another connection, Speedy Parker is the twinner of the Gunslinger Parkus. Haha, see? Cool huh? There’s also a connection to the little sisters of eluria as well, but I forget what it is. At least I think there was, didn’t they mention the name Jack Sawyer at one point? Fuck man, I’ve read so many books sometimes they get all jumbled in my head. Anyways, let’s talk about wolf. Wolf!! Man, I loved that character, he was the absolute shit. He was a great friend to jack, even though his tendencies to be a wolf broke through sometimes. It wouldn’t have made much sense if they didn’t. I loved that whole running with the moon part, I actually wish it was longer, with more of a perspective of what wolf was going through during that time. I remember him bringing Jack food, was it rabbits? For some reason I seem to think he also brought him body parts, but I might be wrong about that. Sorry, it’s been awhile. I remember whatever he brought him to eat while he was locked in the shed was bloody and he threw it under the door. I thought it was cool that while his wolf tendencies shown through sometimes when he was traveling with Jack, when he was a werewolf his tendencies to be Jack’s friend/protector shown through too. And I hated when wolf died, was it at that school/labor camp they got sent too? I remember wolf helped Jack break out, and killed a lot of people helping him escape, but I can’t remember if he died there or at Camp Readiness. Wasn’t it Morgan Sloat’s son who ran the sunshine school and got killed by Jack at the battle at camp readiness? I remember that battle, with the uzi’s blazing down the gates and cutting down a fuckload of werewolves, the rest is a little cloudy in my head. I remember Jack did something there that really pissed off Sloat, I’m thinking it’s because he killed his son or someone who was really important to Sloat. I also remember his son Richard, but wasn’t he Jack’s friend? I can’t remember much about Richard at the moment. Another notable moment in that book, to me anyway, was the time he spent at that bar, Smokey’s? Yeah, that dude who kept him as a slave basically, when Jack escaped that’s where the book really got me, like this is the shit.

Black house, still a cool book but not nearly as great as the talisman. Of course, I never read the two back to back, so I’m interested to hear your opinion on it. I always meant to read the two back to back, and I will do that soon. Just don’t expect another talisman and you’ll probably enjoy it a lot more, just take it for what it is I mean. On another note, I always wondered how much Peter Straub had to do with those two books, the talisman in particular. Stephen King and Peter Straub are obviously friends in real life, but Straub is nowhere near the level of King, in my opinion. I’ve read a few books by him and they’re just not that great. They’re basically time passers to me, something to read when you have nothing else. They never held me spellbound and I just don’t think he has the talent to write anything about the space between worlds. Stephen King obviously does, so I feel all those concepts came from him. I actually feel that the talisman was 90% King, with him putting Peter Straub’s name on the book out of kindness. Maybe Straub had the basic idea and King just ran away with it. I’m interested to hear your opinion on that. I’m glad you enjoyed the talisman man, one of my favorite books ever, by any author.

Well the sunshine home was ran by sunlight gardner/osmond. Morgan Sloat/Orris' right hand man. And yeah wolf died at the home getting jack out. He was shot by the right hand of sunlight at the home…I know how easy it is to get everything jumbled up.
Wolf was probably my favorite character. In a way he reminded me of a blaze type lennie from mice and men character. Just sweet as can be and naive, and in the same token can rip your head off of your shoulders. I liked how he could smell things to the extreme. He could tell jack was phil sawyers son just by the smell.
You're right about wolf bringing him raw meat while he was locked up in that shed. “You have to protect the herd! Right here and now!” At the end jacks meets his litter brother and for a split second I thought somehow speedy flipped wolf and saved him. That kinda fucked with me
Richard is the type of person that pisses me off in real life. Someone who denies magic even when it is right in front of his face. he spends half of his time with jack pretending that the whole thing is a dream. It talks about how jack would always get richard to read these books when they were kids, and richard always looks at them from a distant scientific perspective. Not taking any joy out of it. Richard was Morgans son…
Morgan is a vile creature man. As bad as they get. He killed jacks dad, tried to suffocate jack when he was a baby, and poisoned his own son so he wouldn't make it into the black hotel.
As far as telling the difference between Straub and Kings writing, I've never read any Straub so its hard to compare. But the characterization and language is definitely king all the way. The nicknames Jack-O and Travellin' Jack. The little catch phrases and inside jokes between the protagonist and the reader. He has a very good ability to make you feel a part of the story as opposed to watching it from the outside.
If the black house is as half as good as the talisman than i'll be happy. I loved this book….Can't believe it took this long to read it

I remember Richard a little better now. Didn’t Jack have to carry him a lot? Yeah, he was a whiny little bitch. Black House is about half as good, so I guess you’ll be happy. Then again, I was expecting another talisman. I probably would’ve enjoyed the book a lot more if I didn’t do that. I’ll shut up about it so I don’t spoil it for you, even though I don’t remember as much from that as I do from the talisman. What I do remember to describe it would spoil it, so I just won’t say anything.

Under the Dome is right up there with It and The Shining for me man, book is great. I don't have high hopes though, mainly because it's going to be made by CBS. I can only imagine all of the cool shit that's not going to make the cut. When, they write the script for TV shows, they have to write in a cliffhanger to keep people entertained right before the commercial break. They break it down in time blocks and the script writers and producers have to accomodate it and write it that way. I'm not trying to be a buzzkill buddy, that's just how I feel about it. I'm still definetly gonna watch it though, guess we'll have to wait and see. They could prove me wrong, and I hope they do. We'll have to talk more about this later after it starts man.

While i’m bringing this thread back up, I gotta ask olmrd, which one is your favorite out of the dark tower series and why? And would you be on board for it coming to the big screen(if it ever does). This is probably my favorite thread on here and I don’t wanna see it die
