I was more referring to the teaching of abstinence, if you tell kids not to do something, some won’t, and the rest will, however if you educate them and then let them make their own decisions, with some control and rules still in place, they are less likely to make the worst decisions. One classic example was teenagers brought up in fundamentalist christian family’s getting pregnant at boarding schools, because they were never taught safe sex, they were just taught abstinence.

Amd straight edge kids used to be streat kids who were surrounded with people disrespecting themselves.

No one told them to do anything. Its organic.

And punk rock as a whoke in conformist. At its heart no..but as a whole yes.

So after a while yes to be a straight edge hardcore kid u had to follow the rules like the rest of the punks/evangelical Christians and stick to strick dress codes.

What ever that guy from slc punks said about wikd fire and religious oppression in that monologue.  

When did punk rock come into this? Not that I don’t know straight edged people who love punk rock, but punk in in of itself is about disrupting “the system” (law). I love punk rock, though mostly punk metal, and a bit of punk style rap.

Straight edge is a subculture of punk rock, with the first straight edge band being the pioneers of hardcore. Minor Threat, I believe.

 

Edit: Punk is like the father of so many cultures. It’s where goths & emos came from and it’s even a huge influence on what Metal became, especially thrash metal.  

Ah, life makes sense. I guess a lot of my statements were only semi-logical lol. I was thinking of the term straight edged, which just means law abiding. Though if it bears that same name, its probably a similar group to what I was thinking of. And yeah, thrash was suuuuuper influenced by punk. One of my favorite genres (as obscure as it is) is Grindcore, I adore it.

Yeah, straight edge was a punk culture from the 80s from the hardcore scene where they didn’t do drugs and a lot of them hated people that do. Definitely not law abiding, usually a violent bunch of angry suburban kids looking for a reason to justify their teenage angst.

 

We had this group called PAAP which was Pro Anti Anti Pro. They were straight edgers that took breaks on weekends and they would always start shit with juggalos.  

I’ve always gotten shit from straight edged kids, they act so condescending and it pisses me off. The fucks I constantly deal with are in the middle or upper class, and totally mentally healthy with hardly a problem in the world. I mean like, if the biggest problem in your life is a bad test score, you aint got any right to be talking down to me and my friends.
