All music is usually good music to someone even if it's only the artist that made it, but sometimes even they know it's trash.

It does suck that so many good genres have unsung heroes that may never get their just do.

I cant remember the context of what I was going for here, exactly (drunk/stoned) but I will definitely equate it to the fact that hip hop and rap started in New York. Just a fact. I dont know why the hell I typed that in this thread and in too tired/lazy to reread the earlier posts right now.

Back to Tupac and Biggie... yes, it is irritating and straight up mystifying to us older cats to hear these new artists downplaying the originals. But you cant blame them. Rap is a genre of braggadocio and competition in a lot of ways. What better way to rebel than to claim that all the sensei's ain't shit because you are trying to make a name for yourself?

It reminds me of a dude I grew up with. He was in a couple (rather shitty) local metal bands and was heard to remark that bands like Black Sabbath and Metallica weren't shit. For more insight, this dude's idea of legendary metal is Godsmack. That is his apex. He also was in a three-minute band called "Three Dollar Burrito". The name itself made some of us want to stomp him just off of honkey douche principles..  . . .but I digress... the dude was saying that Black Sabbath (who were said to be the originators of almost all of the "metal chords" of heavy music in our history) were shitty musicians and anyone that enjoyed then were, as well.

Ironically the kid is around my age, which makes it that much more frustrating. 

I barely even listen to Tupac and Biggie (and Jay-Z and others), but to utter that they aren't worthy of recognition and reverence in the history of hip hop is just wrong.

However, no one is above criticism. Noah is right in that respect. Nas had chosen a lot of shitty beats. Tupac wrote lots of conflicting lyrics (as all do). NWA wrote anti-semitic bullshit raps. Almost EVERY gangsta rapper brags about violating or simply hating on women. ICP have anti-gay lyrics throughout their career. Tom McDonald is alive. Lots of legit criticisms here in music land. But you have to give credit where credit is due.

Summary thus far:

'Insert name here' deserves more credit than 'insert name here' for the evolution of music.

I am playing videos on YouTube and having beers. My youngest daughter somehow decided to lace her spaghetti with chocolate frosting, and was actually eating the stuff. The movie "Elf" comes to mind. Gotta work 12+ hours tomorrow.
